The Block Bouquets’ DIY workshop is a 40-minute all-you-can-build session. During the allocated time, you’ll get to choose from a variety of flowers to assemble, including crowd faves like roses, tulips, and sunflowers. The Lego blocks come in a wide range of colours too, so you’ll get to pick your partner’s fave shade.

Though the session is self-guided, guests will be provided an instruction manual that’s said to be relatively easy to follow. But if you need extra time to assemble your flowers, you can top up $6.90 for an additional 10 minutes, or simply opt for a longer 1 hour and 20 minute session for $39.90.

The Block Bouquets’ couple workshop costs $85 for 2 pax, and unlike the solo session, is a fully guided workshop.

If you’re a forward-looking lover, you’ll realise that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner after putting away your hotpots and mahjong sets. We all know the conundrum that is planning a Valentine’s celebration for your partner and yourself, but if you’re headed to the beaches of Sentosa on the big day, consider your nighttime activity all sorted out.

In case you didn’t know, the island paradise’s iconic Wings of Time outdoor night show is getting revamped to commemorate a decade of enthralling visitors with pretty pyrotechnics. Dubbed the Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony, here’s all you need to know about the dazzling affair.

Wings of Time Fireworks SymphonyImage credit: Wings of Time

The Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony is a fireworks show that will be held daily on Siloso Beach in Sentosa starting from 1st February 2025. Created to mark its 10-year anniversary, it’s a revamped version of the existing Wings of Time show and will last 4 times longer than its predecessor, clocking in at a runtime of around 20 minutes.

The new show also coincides with Singapore’s 60th year of independence, and to celebrate both milestones, locals and Singapore permanent residents can snag weekday standard tickets to the show for only $0.60 (U.P. $22).

Tickets are currently available for purchase on Mount Faber’s website, and this promo will run from 3rd February to 28th March 2025. You can also choose to buy your tickets on-site starting from 3rd February 2025, but do note that the discounted tickets are only valid for the Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony’s 8.40pm show.

The show follows the journey of a mythical bird called Shahbaz and his friends as they tour landscapes that are beautiful interpretations of historically significant locations and events. These include vivid renditions of the Industrial Revolution, Silk Road, and Mayan Pyramids.

You’ll want to get your camera out for this one, as each Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony show sets off  nearly 200 sets of fireworks that soar up to 40m, lighting up the night sky. The experience is also enhanced with 3D projections, lasers, water effects, and an inspiring soundtrack for an immersive experience to cap off your night.

Book your tickets to the Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony

There’s nothing like ending Valentine’s Day with a glorious bang, so consider swinging by Sentosa to catch the new Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony show. Besides, a pair of tickets will set you back a measly $1.20, which makes it just the thing for date nights on a budget.

Guide To Changi Bay Point: Seaside Cycling Paths, Mini Forest & Boardwalk Along The Round-Island Route https://thesmartlocal.com/read/changi-bay-point/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 00:00:54 +0000 https://thesmartlocal.com/?p=225543 Get some vitamin D at Changi Bay Point, a new park connector in the east with a killer view.

Changi Bay Point

Singaporeans are huge fans of cycling and hiking, with folks conquering all sorts of routes from cycling routes of all difficulties to epic round-island walking trails. Let that love for the outdoors loose once again at the idyllic Changi Bay Point which is found along the Changi Bay Park Connector.

Here is a guide on what you can expect during your next trip down.

What to bring when visiting Changi Bay Point

As with any outdoor activity that requires you to be out and about in the sun, you’ll want to pack some sunscreen to shield you from the UV rays raining from above. You can also double up on the sun protection by bringing an umbrella with you as well. Of course, staying hydrated is important as well, so bring along a sturdy tumbler to keep your drinks icy cool.

Shoes

You’re gonna do quite a considerable amount of walking, seeing that the Changi Bay PCN is 3.6km long, so investing in a good pair of hiking shoes is a smart idea if you don’t have one already. Finally, a portable handheld fan works wonders in making walks on a hot day bearable.

3.6km-long park connector to explore in Changi

Changi may be far away for many, but anyone with a penchant for good views would have visited the area for its panoramic vistas, especially if they’re looking for a good sunrise or sunset spot in the east. Plus, there’s a park connector (PCN) right by Changi Beach Park that you need to check out for a breath of fresh air.

Start your journey near Changi Beach Car Park 7, which is best accessed by car or taxi. A 3.6km journey along the Changi Bay Park Connector lies ahead.

Cycling bridge & park benches

 boardwalk

A wide cycling bridge – the first of 2 bridges – will let you know that you’re on the right path. From this point onwards, expect seaside views throughout. Now would be a great time to sweep the dust off your skateboard, as other than for walking and cycling, the flat pavement is great for cruising as well.

 seaside benches

There are plenty of sea-facing benches, where you can take a breather to admire the view and have a snack. Since there aren’t any F&B stops along the way, it’d be a good idea to stop by Changi Village beforehand to dabao some food over for a scenic picnic.

Flower patches, lalang grass & lookout pavilion

flower patches

Bask under the sun among the colourful patches of flowers along this PCN – at this point, anyone could have convinced us that we were in a faraway land. In fact, tell your friends that you are in NZ and they may just take your word for it.

pavilion at sunsetImage credit: @mackymuy via Instagram

Before long, you’ll come across Changi Bay Point itself, a picturesque lookout point by the sea. There’s a romantic pavilion from which you can catch a stunning sunrise. That isn’t to say the stellar views end once the sun is fully up. We were there in mid-afternoon and still, the experience was 10/10.

stairs to pavilion

Thanks to the unblocked views, you can spot Pulau Tekong and even some of Johor’s hills sticking out on the horizon.

lookout bay

Tuas may be the legendary spot to find lalang grass for “Tumblr-worthy” photoshoots but we’ll say Changi Bay Point easily dethrones it with dreamy lalang grass by the sea

Snap a gazillion shots, and once you’re done, take a break under the nearby shelter. There’s a vending machine here where you can purchase outdoor essentials like water, tissue, and even bandaids if you’ve got an injury.

rest stop

Breakwater with an obscured entrance

breakwater views

The breakwater is an obscure spot some might miss out on as it seems cordoned off by a wall of trees. We found a semi-shrouded dirt path leading in, where you snap some shots, or simply chill out and soak in the vitamin D.

Scenic public washroom & boardwalk

 toilets

For those who need to go for a round 2, head to the new Changi Bay Public Toilet. There’s even shower cubicles for the public to use if you need a minute to cool down.

vending machine

No outdoor adventure’s complete without a vending machine – buy yourself some cold drinks or refill your water bottle for free. If you’ve taken a dip in the sea, rinse off the sand at the indoor and outdoor showers here.

posing with boardwalk viewIt certainly doesn’t hurt that this toilet looks like a Maldives resort from certain angles.

Connected to this is also a short boardwalk where you can take a break from your walk and soak in the views. Our quick tip here would be to use this stop as an opportunity to slather yourself in sunscreen, especially if you’re there on a sunny day. There won’t be much shade along the rest of the way.

walking down slope

Small forest path & a leaning tree

mini forest

If you’re catching Coney Island vibes from the image, you’ve got that right. Near the public toilet is a small forest patch that our photographers were quick to go gaga over. The mystical enclave was one that we didn’t expect to find, but it’s a spot that would be worth checking out if whimsical photos are what you’re gunning for.

tree by seaside

While we nearly ended our trip there, we were glad we didn’t – a little further down the road is a picturesque leaning tree right by the sea where you and your friends can sit down and enjoy some HTHT with a view. Bali, Phuket, and Okinawa y’all can take a back seat today.

What to do near Changi Bay Point besides walking

Cycling

If you’re not one for long walks by the beach, there are a couple of other things to do at Changi Bay Point. For starters, you can rent a bicycle (from $10/hour) from 2 GoCycling stands around Changi Beach and go on a joyride. One of these stands can be found at Changi Beach Park Carpark 1, and the other at Carpark 7.

Fishing at Changi Beach Park

Fishing enthusiasts, you’ll be glad to know that Changi Beach is quite a popular spot to go fishing in Singapore, so feel free to bring along your rod and tackle box on your visit. You can fish anywhere along the beach, andsSome of the critters that might take your bait include Javelin Grunters, Goatee Croakers, Brown Stingrays, and Barramundi.

How to get to Changi Bay Point

  • By MRT and bus: The two nearest MRT stations are Tanah Merah and Expo MRT. They are still pretty far away from Changi Bay point, though, so you’ll have to take bus 35 from either station and alight at Aft Changi Coast Rd. From there, take a stroll down Changi Beach Park to get to Changi Bay Point.
  • By car: The closest carpark to Changi Bay point is Changi Beach Park carpark 7.

What to do at Changi Bay Point

cycling & walking trail

Part of the Eastern end of the Round-Island-Route, Changi Bay Point is a beautiful new stop to add to your outdoor adventure. After visiting the area, you can continue on the PCN, either upwards to Punggol or downwards to East Coast Park.

Be sure to check the weather forecast before heading down and try to come on a weekday if you’d like the space all to yourself.

ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025 at Singapore Expo

We’ve barely dipped our toes into the new year, and already new events are pouring in to coincide with the lively CNY vibes in the air right now. You’ve got photo ops galore over at Light to Night 2025, while the comma Creative Arts Festival is just the thing for the artsy folk. Well, if you need even more motivation to get yourself out of the house this rainy season, simply make a beeline for ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025.

It’ll play host to a slew of picture perfect backdrops for the ‘Gram, various activities to keep your hands busy, and close to 300 booths selling trinkets and yummy bites to stop by at. Here’s a sneak peek of ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025, from crafty workshops to try your hand at to the interesting handmade knick-knacks you can pick up within its funky premises.

What is Artbox Singapore?

Artbox booths

Artbox Singapore is an annual creative festival which features works from local and international artists alike, along with game and food stalls to enjoy. It was conceived in Thailand in 2014, where shipping containers were distinctly used to house its street market booths and also made for picturesque backdrops to snap away at.

2025’s edition of Artbox, ARTBOX EVERYDAY, is held at Singapore Expo Hall 4 over 2 weekends – 17th-19th and 24th-26th January 2025. You can get your tickets right now via Trip.com, and they’re starting at $7/pax.

Convenience store

This year, ARTBOX EVERYDAY has a theme of ubiquity; that art can be found everywhere as we go about our day-to-day routines. As such, expect recreations of familiar scenes of your everyday life, such as bus commutes, visits to a convenience store, and a good ol’ lepak sesh at the void deck.

How to get to ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025?

Singapore Expo

You’ve got a couple of options when it comes to getting to ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025. One way to get there is by taking the MRT and alighting at Expo station on the East-West Line. Afterwards, Singapore Expo Hall 4 is about a 9-minute walk away.

You can also take buses 12, 24, and 38, alight at the Opp Expo Halls 4/5/6 bus stop, and cross the road via an overhead bridge to reach Singapore Expo Hall 4. If you’re driving here, there’s a ton of parking space right in front of the convention halls, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find a lot. Here are the parking rates for Singapore Expo’s carparks:

Mon-Sun/Public Holidays $1.80 for first 2 hours, $1.50 for subsequent 30 minutes

Artbox Express

An alternative way to go to ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025 is to take a shuttle bus from *SCAPE in Somerset. Dubbed the ARTBOX EXPRESS, rides to and from *SCAPE and Singapore Expo cost just $0.50, and will come in 1-hour intervals. Your tickets to ARTBOX EVERYDAY also comes with 1 complimentary bus ride from Singapore Expo back to *SCAPE.

What’s more, in the spirit of creativity, the interior of the buses will be decorated with digital installations on 3 TV screens that showcase the works of local and regional artists.

Spruce up your feeds with pretty photo spots

Artbox 2025 photo spot

Similar to ARTBOX 2024, ARTBOX EVERYDAY has tastefully strewn massive shipping containers all over the convention hall to create an IG-worthy backdrop to pose beside. For starters, swing by a stack of containers found near the middle of the convention hall that’s meant to mimic the design of familiar neighbourhoods close to heart.

Goods sold at Artbox Convenience Store

Here, you’ll find the ARTBOX Convenience Store that’s filled to the brim with a curious combination of snacks, artworks, and books all for sale. We spotted tubs of pineapple tarts ($23.80) that have arrived just in time for CNY, robot-looking art pieces ($654), as well as huge paintings (from $2,200) that fetch a couple of thousands of dollars.

Song He pop-up
For each visitor to the booth, Sōng Hè has pledged to donate 2 bowls of rice to the needy, and you can also make cash donations right here to help the less fortunate.

Opposite the ARTBOX Convenience Store, there’s also a Sōng Hè pop-up to check out. Visitors to ARTBOX EVERYDAY will be given a little key with their tickets that you can hand over to the staff manning this pop-up, for a chance to open one of 10 doors to redeem a secret prize. On our visit, we got to walk home with a 300g vacuum-sealed pack of rice.

Photo booth

Another spot for pics that you can head to is the free photo booth. They’ve got 2 coloured backdrops to pick from, and you operate the tablet used to take your shots with hand gestures. The photos will come out as GIFs, so do move around a little as the shutter goes off. After posing for your shots, you can opt to have them shown on the screens right next to the photo booth.

Flex your creative muscles at workshops & other activities

.bungkus card holder workshop

Once you’re done with your photoshoots, definitely give the various workshops at ARTBOX EVERYDAY a shot. We got the chance to craft our own upcycled accessories at a card holder workshop (from $24) conducted by .bungkus. Each session runs about 45 minutes long, and we were taught how to turn soft plastic waste into a 1-of-1 card holder to bring home.

The Postcard Project

ARTBOX EVERYDAY’s The Postcard Project is next to .bungkus’ makeshift green factory, and it’s worth sitting in for a fun lil colouring session. It’s FOC, and you’ll be given a beautifully designed postcard and a box of colour pencils to go to town on, filling it in.

After you’re done with your masterpiece, write down your goals on the flipside and drop your postcard off at the on-site postbox. The folks at ARTBOX EVERYDAY will deliver the postcard that’s uniquely yours to the relevant mentors or companies that align with your aspirations.

Finally, those in search of a new everyday scent can swing by now later studio’s perfume workshop ($32). You’ll become the nose behind your very own perfume as they guide you on how to put together a personalised scent from scratch, from selecting your favourite notes to creating a distinct blend.

Aliwal Chess Club

Aliwal Chess Club is making a return for ARTBOX EVERYDAY, so keep an eye out for their intricately ornate, oversized chess pieces. There are 31 of them, each designed by different artists from around the region.

Designing chess piece & playing chess

In case you’re wondering where the stray piece has gone, the public is given the task of designing the final chessmen of the set, so feel free to leave your mark on the huge pawn piece in their booth. Of course, you’re invited to play a game of chess with your friends, or sit a friendly staff member for a mental showdown at any one of their chessboards.

Open mic sessions

For the daring with angelic voices, there are open mic sessions being held at a basketball court-themed stage. Powered by Teo Heng’s state-of-the-art sound systems, seasoned performers and rising stars alike can take centre stage and have impromptu karaoke sessions, with a crowd of onlookers no less.

Performances

If you’d prefer to sit amongst the audience instead, make your way to the ARTBOX Main Stage; we caught a comedy act by the acclaimed Dr Jason Leong during our visit. Performances will take place right here daily from 5pm till 10pm, and some to look forward to include sets from local artistes such as Velvet Groove, REVERIE, and MAD TRIO.

Gamestop Arena

Gamers will be able to immerse themselves in a couple rounds of video games at the Gamestop Arena. Nintendo Switch consoles have been set up here, as visitors will get 1 free play that comes bundled with their tickets to ARTBOX EVERYDAY. Brawl it out with mates on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or engage in high-octane racing action with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Air hockey

For a blast to the past, The Arcade People have set up shop at ARTBOX EVERYDAY once again, so head down to set high scores at retro arcade cabinets. To get started, make a stop at a token vending machine which dispenses tokens for $2 each, or $20 for 20 tokens. Games here cost around 2 tokens, and include rhythm games, claw machines, and racing simulators.

The Arcade People photo spot

If you still have space on your SD card, there’s also a small photo spot with seats and an old school-looking phone to use as a prop.

Shop at almost 300 F&B & retail vendors from all over Asia

Artbox 2025 booths

Foodies and shopaholics alike can rejoice, as the main draw of ARTBOX EVERYDAY will be the sheer amount of F&B and retail booths to visit. There’ll be almost 300 booths to stop by, featuring vendors from countries such as Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand.

Food at Artbox 2025

Food-wise, be prepared to feast on a plethora of quirky street food. We munched on sushi tacos ($10), jacket potatoes ($9), cheese corndogs ($9), and crepes ($10). Drinks-wise, you’ve got the option of washing everything down with butterbeer ($10), milk tea ($5), or freshly dispensed draft from Chang beer ($8).

Seating area
There’s a dedicated seating area filled with benches and tables near the food booths so you don’t have to worry about chope-ing a spot.

It was pretty difficult to pick out which ones to try, as there were literally dozens of enticing booths to choose from. Some dishes that caught our eyes and nose while walking down the food street include durian chendol ($8), yakiniku ribeye beef cubes ($15), Thai XXL grilled squid ($18), and souffle sandwiches ($6).

Goods sold at Artbox 2025

You’ll also be able to shop clothes, accessories, and other small trinkets crafted by talented artists from all over Asia. We breezed past booths selling handicrafts such as DIY handmade flowers ($5), temporary tattoos ($4/piece), cutesy stickers ($5/piece), and even handcrafted ceramics (from $48).

Moru doll bar

Other interesting booths that we recommend having a gander at include a Moru doll bar (from $18) where you get to customise and dress an adorable furry pal up in tiny outfits. There was also a tarot-reading pop-up by Auralogick, where you can ask quickfire questions about your future for $38/10 minutes.

Plan a visit to ARTBOX EVERYDAY 2025

Flower inflatable

As CNY’s also happening particularly early next year, those looking for an extra festive January in 2025 can consider heading down for ARTBOX EVERYDAY. We spent about a good 4 hours during our trip down, and we can proudly say that we’ve barely scratched the surface when it comes to popping by each and every one of the 277 booths and pop-ups.

After all, there’s so much you can stomach in 1 day, both literally and figuratively, so foodies and shopaholics might want to tackle this expansive event over 2 days instead. After all, ARTBOX EVERYDAY is here to stay for 2 weekends, so there’s still time to plan a repeat visit.

Sentosa Night Mode things to do 2025

If you’re in the mood for an island retreat in sunny Singapore, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better getaway than Sentosa. Sure, you have Coney Island in the recesses of Punggol and options further up south in St. John’s and Lazarus Island, but Sentosa’s still undoubtedly the most happening of the bunch, especially as we approach Chinese New Year.

The festive vibes are spilling over from 2024, and you’ll still be able to revel in the island paradise’s festivities as part of the Sentosa Night Mode promotions. From a Korean cocktail bonanza to movie dates by the beach under the stars, here’s what to expect when you visit Sentosa once dusk falls this January and beyond.

1. Movies by the Beach

Lay down a picnic mat & enjoy movies under the stars

If cinema dates have lost their magic, swap out your traditional movie-viewing experience for Sentosa’s Movies by the Beach. Previously a monthly affair, there will now be weekly screenings every Saturday and Sunday at 7pm. Just like its name suggests, you can get cosy with your SO by laying down a picnic mat to enjoy a flick as the sun sets over Palawan Beach.

Crowd at Movies by the BeachImage credit: Sentosa

Movies shown will be updated online on a monthly basis, and you can view the show schedule on the Movies by the Beach website. By the way, admission is free, so you’ll want to head to the Palawan Kidz City Roof Garden a bit earlier to chope your spot before it gets too packed.

They’ll be screening family-friendly films that are bound to captivate audiences of all ages; some blockbusters to catch as the ocean breeze blows include Pixar hits like Toy Story and The Incredibles.

Admission: Free

2. iFly Singapore

Take flight in one of the world’s largest wind tunnels

Sentosa has no shortage of adrenaline-pumping activities scattered around the island; case in point, high octane go-kart racing at HyperDrive and heart-thumping bungee jumps at Skypark Sentosa. But, if you’d rather float in the air instead of plummeting several storeys down, swing by iFly Singapore.

The facility takes on an airport theme and houses one of the world’s largest wind tunnels. Standing at over 17m tall, daredevils can have a taste of what it’s like to free-fall as you step into strong wind currents that emulate sky diving. Of course, there’ll be trained instructors on-site to teach you the basics on how to take flight and gear you up appropriately, in case you’re still a fledgling.

iFly Singapore

Later this year, you’ll get to do the same for movies at Haven XR, a futuristic VR cinema that allows audiences to quite literally become the protagonists of their own movies, controlling their individual fates.

The immersive theatre’s first featured production is not for the faint-hearted – titled The Keeper, the horror short is set on an eerie deserted island that viewers will have to attempt to escape. Definitely a win for horror movie fans.

It seems like only yesterday when we clinked glasses under the fireworks-lit night sky during the many New Year’s countdown parties happening all over Singapore. Unfortunately, our 9-5s beckon once again while we sober up from the bustling holiday season, but that doesn’t mean the festivities have to halt once we cross over to 2025.

That’s because the comma Creative Arts Festival has graced the Somerset Belt as we speak. This January, visitors to the Somerset precinct will be able to catch a whole host of dazzling performances and activities when they swing by the fringes of the town. Here’s what to expect, in case you’re looking for some respite after clocking out to tide you through the month.

Mandai Boardwalk at Mandai Wildlife Reserve

Think you’ve already explored all of Singapore’s great outdoors? Well, you’re in for a treat this year. Alongside the upcoming Rainforest Wild Asia and Mandai Rainforest Resort, Mandai Wildlife Reserve has just unveiled its brand new Mandai Boardwalk – a 3.3km walking trail that circles around River Wonders and Singapore Zoo.

The free-to-enter boardwalk is accessible from Mandai Wildlife East and an entrance next to River Wonders, and visitors can look forward to catching stunning sunrise and sunset views of the Upper Seletar Reservoir and Central Catchment Nature Reserve from here.

5 themed stations & a lookout point

Of course, there are also IG-worthy spots like the Tree Frog’s Hangout, the perfect location to snap pics against the gorgeous backdrop of the reserve’s greenery.

Open from 7am to 7pm daily

The boardwalk is open from 7am to 7pm daily so as to not disturb the nocturnal animals in the area. But be sure to keep a lookout for critters along your hike, as the trail was actually built to attract biodiversity to the area, through enhancing the water-edge vegetation that it was constructed over.

Plus, with Mandai Boardwalk’s proximity to Singapore Zoo, we hear you might even be able to catch a glimpse of some zoo animals from afar.

New theme parks near Singapore 2025

We’ve only scraped past the first half of January, and some of us are already counting down to this year’s first long weekend so we can hop on a plane to escape the countless work-related pings. Unfortunately, unlike getting all caught up with Squid Game season 2, we can’t run life on 2x speed to fast-forward to public holidays in 2025.

But, planning what spots to visit on your future vacations can be quite the motivator for you to lock in for Q1, and you can’t go wrong with a day at the theme park when it comes to planning itineraries. As such, here are 10 new and upcoming theme parks near Singapore to get you all excited once the holiday season hits.

– New theme parks –

1. KidZania, Singapore

Kid-centric theme park, role-play taking up various real world jobs

KidZania entrance

You don’t even have to leave the country for the little ones to have a whale of a time, those with tots in tow can pay a visit to the revamped KidZania in Sentosa. The facility shuttered back in 2020 due to the pandemic but welcomed families once again early last year.

KidZania activities

In case you’ve not had the chance to visit just yet, KidZania is an indoor theme park modelled after a replica city where children can try their hand at real-world occupations through role-play. There are over 40 activities for curious minds to have a go at, which include landing a plane via a flight simulator, fixing leaking faucets as a handyman, and even designing their own video games.

KidZania's Department Store

For maximum immersion, the children will also be awarded faux currency called Kidzos for each activity completed. They’ll be able to spend their hard-earned money at Kidzania Department Store to walk home with toys and stationery to cap off a day of honest work.

Probably the most anticipated opening as far as Universal Studios Singapore is concerned, the upcoming Minion Land will no doubt be a hit amongst the families frequenting USS. Opening on 14th February 2025, the themed zone will span over 1 and a half football fields, and is projected to sport 3 different areas for fans of the Despicable Me movies to explore

7. Paramount Pictures Theme Park Bali, Bali, Indonesia

600 hectares of rides, attractions & hotels, biggest theme park in SEA

The theme park will also be home to 2 hotels to recharge at, the Paramount Grand Resort and Nickelodeon Resort.

Indonesia is set to receive its first international theme park, and boy are they pulling no stops. Paramount Pictures Theme Park Bali is slated to be up and running later this year in the Jembrana Regency in southwest Bali, and is projected to be the largest of its kind in South East Asia.

Transformers ride in USS

There are no news on what rides will be featured in this gargantuan theme park, but we predict that the film production company will base the park’s key attractions on its famous IPs. Expect rides that recreate scenes from recognisable franchises such as Mission: Impossible and Transformers, Star Trek, or Top Gun.

Paramount Pictures also own the rights to Nickelodeon, so we can confidently say that it’ll be a kid-friendly destination in case the little ones want to tag along too. What is pretty much confirmed is that the park will launch with a zone called the Land of Legends that’s themed after Indonesia’s folklore, so you won’t have to stray too far for a taste of the local culture and traditions.

8. Junglia, Okinawa, Japan

Theme park in Okinawa built near a beautiful national park

When one thinks of Japan, Okinawa’s definitely not the first city that pops to mind but pretty soon, you’ll have a bonus reason to visit this tropical paradise. That’s because the Junglia amusement park will be hitting its shores come 2025, and it promises to bring dino-fueled action and a nature-infused retreat to soak in the natural beauty of the island.

Safari ride - new theme parks 2025Image credit: Junglia

The amusement park will be built in close proximity to the stunning Yambaru National Park, giving visitors an immersive experience as they step into this seemingly untamed jungle. Based on what we’ve gathered, attractions at Junglia include hot air balloon rides for stunning aerial views of the jungle canopies, a speedy zipline ride, and a frantic safari experience in which guests are chased by a ferocious T-rex.

Junglia Spa - new theme parks 2025

Information on accommodation in Junglia is sparse, but there are murmurs that there are plans to include a forest spa to get some much-needed R&R at. Besides, Okinawa has 5-hour direct flights from Singapore too, so perhaps you can give the likes of Tokyo and Osaka a rest for your next vacation to give Junglia a visit.

For more information, check out the Junglia website.

9. LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort, Shanghai, China

LEGO wonderland with 8 themed zones & 75 attractions

If you can’t get enough of LEGOLAND Malaysia’s blocky offerings, then book a trip to LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort the next time you’re touring China. Although dates aren’t firmed up yet, what we do know is that the theme park’s grand opening is scheduled for later this year around June, and it’s presenting 8 whole themed zones for families to frolic in.

Junior Driving School - new theme parks 2025

For starters, LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort’s LEGO City zone will have attractions such as a Junior Driving School, where kids can go behind the wheel to traverse the expansive city in their very own LEGO mobiles. Aspiring firefighters can also make a stop at the Rescue Academy, to pilot a LEGO fire truck to douse flames on a burning building.

Other zones to look forward to include a LEGO NINJAGO-themed area, a palatial LEGO Castle, as well as the China-exclusive LEGO Monkie Kid zone which draws inspiration from the iconic Journey to the West. When it’s time to call it a day, rest up at the LEGOLAND Hotel, whose rooms are decorated with playful LEGO decor.

Sanrio fans can rejoice, as the Sanya Hello Kitty Resort is not too far away from completion. Initially scheduled for a 2024 opening, some news sites state that construction will wrap up some time this year instead.

Although we’ve got to wait a wee bit longer, the main draw of the theme park will undoubtedly be the Hello Kitty-inspired attractions and photo spots. Judging from artists’ impressions of the park, there’ll be an Egypt-themed zone complete with a huge Hello Kitty sphinx, as well as water-based rides, roller coasters, and a ferris wheel bearing Sanrio motifs.

Should you need multiple days to hang with Hello Kitty and friends, check into the accompanying luxury resort at the theme park. It’s expected to house over 221 rooms, 3 restaurants, along with facilities such as a spa, fitness centre, and a bar.

While season 2 of Squid Game gave us more insights into the selection process and lives of the pink guards, this training centre takes it one step further by getting you to complete 6 different challenges to earn your pink jumpsuit. The best thing is there’s no booking or payment involved.

Upon completing each mission, you will get a stamp on your game card, which you must fill up for a special prize at the end.

The first three challenges are all fitness-related, and if you’ve survived years of NAPFA during secondary school, they’ll be a breeze. Do note that the difficulty of the challenges can be adjusted for children participating while the challenges remain the same. Here’s what the first 3 challenges entail:

  • Mission 1: Complete a short shuttle run in under 20 seconds.
  • Mission 2: Show off your upper body strength with push-ups – 5 for men and 2 for women.
  • Mission 3: Hang from a bar for 10 seconds in a dead hang.

And just like that, you’re already halfway there.

Mission 4 is a simple but precise eye test. A pink guard will point to different words, numbers, brands, and symbols, and you’ll need to call them out correctly, just like a regular vision test. Be sure to bring your glasses or contact lenses if you need them.

Mission 5 is where it starts to get a little more challenging. Armed with a toy gun, your task is to shoot down all the targets on the opposite side of the booth. Precision and focus are key here so stay calm and you’ll get them all in no time.

After completing mission 5, head up the squid game-themed stairs for the last mission, a treasure hunt sort of game. There is a hidden clue hidden among all the barang barang in the room that you have to find to complete the mission.

Once that’s done and dusted, you’ll officially graduate from the guard training program. You’ll receive a free custom Squid Game dog tag with your name engraved on it and the chance to don one of the iconic pink guard suits. It’s the perfect photo op to show off your Squid Game experience.

Other photo spots can be found on level 4 of the building and there’s even a merch shop on level 5.
