We all know the conundrum that is planning a Valentine’s celebration for your partner and yourself, but if you’re headed to the beaches of Sentosa on the big day, consider your nighttime activity all sorted out.

In case you didn’t know, the island paradise’s iconic Wings of Time outdoor night show is getting revamped to commemorate a decade of enthralling visitors with pretty pyrotechnics. Dubbed the Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony, here’s all you need to know about the dazzling affair.

Wings of Time Fireworks SymphonyImage credit: Wings of Time

The Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony is a fireworks show that will be held daily on Siloso Beach in Sentosa starting from 1st February 2025. Created to mark its 10-year anniversary, it’s a revamped version of the existing Wings of Time show and will last 4 times longer than its predecessor, clocking in at a runtime of around 20 minutes.

The new show also coincides with Singapore’s 60th year of independence, and to celebrate both milestones, locals and Singapore permanent residents can snag weekday standard tickets to the show for only $0.60 (U.P. $22).

The show follows the journey of a mythical bird called Shahbaz and his friends as they tour landscapes that are beautiful interpretations of historically significant locations and events. These include vivid renditions of the Industrial Revolution, Silk Road, and Mayan Pyramids.

You’ll want to get your camera out for this one, as each Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony show sets off  nearly 200 sets of fireworks that soar up to 40m, lighting up the night sky. The experience is also enhanced with 3D projections, lasers, water effects, and an inspiring soundtrack for an immersive experience to cap off your night.

Book your tickets to the Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony

There’s nothing like ending Valentine’s Day with a glorious bang, so consider swinging by Sentosa to catch the new Wings of Time Fireworks Symphony show. Besides, a pair of tickets will set you back a measly $1.20, which makes it just the thing for date nights on a budget.

Later this year, you’ll get to do the same for movies at Haven XR, a futuristic VR cinema that allows audiences to quite literally become the protagonists of their own movies, controlling their individual fates.

The immersive theatre’s first featured production is not for the faint-hearted – titled The Keeper, the horror short is set on an eerie deserted island that viewers will have to attempt to escape. Definitely a win for horror movie fans.

Plus, with Mandai Boardwalk’s proximity to Singapore Zoo, we hear you might even be able to catch a glimpse of some zoo animals from afar.

KidZania's Department Store

For maximum immersion, the children will also be awarded faux currency called Kidzos for each activity completed. They’ll be able to spend their hard-earned money at Kidzania Department Store to walk home with toys and stationery to cap off a day of honest work.

There are no news on what rides will be featured in this gargantuan theme park, but we predict that the film production company will base the park’s key attractions on its famous IPs. Expect rides that recreate scenes from recognisable franchises such as Mission: Impossible and Transformers, Star Trek, or Top Gun.

Paramount Pictures also own the rights to Nickelodeon, so we can confidently say that it’ll be a kid-friendly destination in case the little ones want to tag along too. What is pretty much confirmed is that the park will launch with a zone called the Land of Legends that’s themed after Indonesia’s folklore, so you won’t have to stray too far for a taste of the local culture and traditions.

8. Junglia, Okinawa, Japan

Theme park in Okinawa built near a beautiful national park

When one thinks of Japan, Okinawa’s definitely not the first city that pops to mind but pretty soon, you’ll have a bonus reason to visit this tropical paradise. That’s because the Junglia amusement park will be hitting its shores come 2025, and it promises to bring dino-fueled action and a nature-infused retreat to soak in the natural beauty of the island.

The amusement park will be built in close proximity to the stunning Yambaru National Park, giving visitors an immersive experience as they step into this seemingly untamed jungle. Based on what we’ve gathered, attractions at Junglia include hot air balloon rides for stunning aerial views of the jungle canopies, a speedy zipline ride, and a frantic safari experience in which guests are chased by a ferocious T-rex.

Information on accommodation in Junglia is sparse, but there are murmurs that there are plans to include a forest spa to get some much-needed R&R at. Besides, Okinawa has 5-hour direct flights from Singapore too, so perhaps you can give the likes of Tokyo and Osaka a rest for your next vacation to give Junglia a visit.

For more information, check out the Junglia website.

For starters, LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort’s LEGO City zone will have attractions such as a Junior Driving School, where kids can go behind the wheel to traverse the expansive city in their very own LEGO mobiles. Aspiring firefighters can also make a stop at the Rescue Academy, to pilot a LEGO fire truck to douse flames on a burning building.

Other zones to look forward to include a LEGO NINJAGO-themed area, a palatial LEGO Castle, as well as the China-exclusive LEGO Monkie Kid zone which draws inspiration from the iconic Journey to the West. Sanrio fans can rejoice, as the Sanya Hello Kitty Resort is not too far away from completion. Initially scheduled for a 2024 opening, some news sites state that construction will wrap up some time this year instead.

Although we’ve got to wait a wee bit longer, the main draw of the theme park will undoubtedly be the Hello Kitty-inspired attractions and photo spots. Judging from artists’ impressions of the park, there’ll be an Egypt-themed zone complete with a huge Hello Kitty sphinx, as well as water-based rides, roller coasters, and a ferris wheel bearing Sanrio motifs.

Squid Game Pink Guard Training Centre

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be one of those mysterious pink guards in Squid Game, you can now live out your dystopian fantasy in Seoul. Nestled in the heart of Gangnam, the Squid Game Pink Guard Training Centre offers fans a chance to step into the world of the hit Netflix series for free.

This immersive experience is perfect for die-hard fans and anyone looking to spice up their Seoul itinerary with something you won’t find anywhere else.

How to get to the Squid Game Pink Guard Training Centre

To save you the struggle of finding cheap flights to Seoul, we have a whole guide to airlines with cheap flights to Korea.

Once you’ve landed in Seoul, you’ll just be a 50-minute taxi ride away from the Squid Game Pink Guard Training Centre. Alternatively, you can take the metro from Terminal 1 of Incheon International Airport to Hongik University station, where you would have to change lines to get to Gangnam station. From Gangnam station, head towards exit 11 where Squid Game Pink Guard Training Centre is just a 3-minute walk away.

What to expect at Squid Game Pink Guard Training Centre

As they say, if you can’t beat them, join them. While season 2 of Squid Game gave us more insights into the selection process and lives of the pink guards, this training centre takes it one step further by getting you to complete 6 different challenges to earn your pink jumpsuit. The best thing is there’s no booking or payment involved.

Upon completing each mission, you will get a stamp on your game card, which you must fill up for a special prize at the end.

The first three challenges are all fitness-related, and if you’ve survived years of NAPFA during secondary school, they’ll be a breeze. Do note that the difficulty of the challenges can be adjusted for children participating while the challenges remain the same. Here’s what the first 3 challenges entail:

  • Mission 1: Complete a short shuttle run in under 20 seconds.
  • Mission 2: Show off your upper body strength with push-ups – 5 for men and 2 for women.
  • Mission 3: Hang from a bar for 10 seconds in a dead hang.

And just like that, you’re already halfway there.

Mission 4 is a simple but precise eye test. A pink guard will point to different words, numbers, brands, and symbols, and you’ll need to call them out correctly, just like a regular vision test. Be sure to bring your glasses or contact lenses if you need them.

Mission 5 is where it starts to get a little more challenging. Armed with a toy gun, your task is to shoot down all the targets on the opposite side of the booth. Precision and focus are key here so stay calm and you’ll get them all in no time.

After completing mission 5, head up the squid game-themed stairs for the last mission, a treasure hunt sort of game. There is a hidden clue hidden among all the barang barang in the room that you have to find to complete the mission.

Once that’s done and dusted, you’ll officially graduate from the guard training program. You’ll receive a free custom Squid Game dog tag with your name engraved on it and the chance to don one of the iconic pink guard suits. It’s the perfect photo op to show off your Squid Game experience.

Other photo spots can be found on level 4 of the building and there’s even a merch shop on level 5.

Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre rooftop CNY decor 2025

In the blink of an eye, Santa has already retired his sleigh, and we’re left stumbling into 2025 with Chinese New Year in our sights. We’re expecting the red packets and annual steamboats to come knocking end-January, but for those who can’t sit still, we’ve got just the thing for you.

To borrow some festive inspiration for your IG feed, swing by the “蛇(Shé)prise” CNY Art Installation at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. It’s conveniently located in the heart of the CBD, and its rooftop has been spruced up with snake-themed installations and various family-friendly activities; here’s all you need to know before slithering down.

What is the “蛇prise” CNY Art Installation?

Rooftop gardenImage credit: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

The “蛇prise” CNY Art Installation is located on the rooftop garden of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre in Tanjong Pagar. It plays host to a number of snake-themed installations to celebrate the Year of the Snake, and is part of their annual CNY Family Fun event to usher in the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities.

Image credit: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

The “蛇prise” CNY Art Installation will be available for the public to visit from now till 30th April 2025, from 10am-10pm daily. On the other hand, most of the CNY Family Fun 2025 activities will be held from 18th-19th January 2025, where families can sit in for a slew of festive performances and craft workshops.

Snap pics alongside pretty snake-inspired installations

Aside from hosting a slew of exhibitions and guided tours about the unique Chinese culture in Singapore, the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre is also home to a “hidden” rooftop garden. The zen garden sits on the tippy top of the 11-storey building, and gives visitors a great aerial view of the bustling CBD down below.

Love in Many Colours exhibit

The rooftop garden periodically gets a makeover to commemorate special occasions. A few years back, the garden was decorated with faux sakura trees and a moon swing as part of their Love in Many Colours exhibit.

Snake structureImage credit: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

This Chinese New Year, they’re working their magic once again to transform it into an IG-worthy backdrop for visitors to hold their own photoshoots. For starters, head to this coiled snake structure in the middle of the garden that bears auspicious phrases to manifest some huat all year long.

By the way, the garden lights up beautifully at night, turning it into quite the spectacle. Time your visits well by arriving just in time to watch the sun dip below the towering buildings in the area, and watch as warm hues of orange bathe over the plants and installations.

The little ones can have a go at the slide that’s reminiscent of a snake’s flickering tongue, or step into the cube-like photo op emblazoned with cute motifs of the zodiac reptile.

Before you make your leave, there’s even a huge Snakes And Ladders board on Level 1, designed with CNY-inspired tiles and a pair of oversized dice to play with.

Take part in free workshops & catch festive performances

Heading to the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre as we approach Chinese New Year is also a good idea, if you’re looking to revel in even more festivities. Mark your calendars for 18th-19th January, as the centre will be organising over 20 family-friendly activities to take part in. Most of these are free to participate in too, so there’s no reason not to head down.

Lion dance - singapore chinese cultural centre cnyImage credit: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

For instance, there are obligatory lion dance performances happening on both dates, complete with a “plucking the green” act where lettuce is tossed towards the audience to bring about good luck and prosperity. Do also stay for rousing music performances by the Marsiling Chinese Orchestra, as they fill the air with popular CNY tunes.

LED Snake dance - singapore chinese cultural centre cnyImage credit: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

To go with the recurring snake theme, the Yan Wong Cultural Troupe will be wowing the crowd with a dazzling LED Snake Dance. Curiously, tune in for the Sssssnakes Talk conducted by the Herpetological Society of Singapore, who’ll dispel misconceptions and myths of snakes and learn more about these scaly critters that dwell in sunny Singapore.

Workshops & Spring Bazaar - singapore chinese cultural centre cny

Artsy minds can also try their hand at workshops such as calligraphy and festive crafts-making workshops, while those in search of CNY goodies such as pastries and accessories can make a stop at the yearly Spring Bazaar.

Wicked Universal Studios Singapore

In case you’ve not caught it yet, Wicked’s still pretty popular amongst the musical and film-loving crowd as we countdown to the new year. But, if you can’t get enough of the wonders of the movie, then book a ticket to Universal Studios Singapore.

That’s because the theme park’s New York zone has been given a little makeover and now resembles the magnificent Emerald City from the flick. From coming face-to-face with the Wizard of Oz to getting a bewitching makeover, here’s what you can expect at USS’ Celebrate Wicked themed installation when you swing by right before 2025 hits.

What is Universal Studios Singapore’s Celebrate Wicked?

Universal Studios Singapore’s Celebrate Wicked is a limited time installation within the New York zone of the theme park. It will be available from now till 1st January 2025, so do book your tickets via the Resorts World Sentosa website soon to catch it before it leaves after the New Year celebrations.

The installation will play host to several familiar scenes ripped straight from the recent blockbuster, making for IG-worthy photo spots to plaster all over your socials. Also, feel free to wave hello to the many mascots around the park as they’re known to be extra friendly.

Once you’ve got your shots, grab Wicked-themed bites from the food carts around the park. Of course, you’re gonna want to snag a memento too, and you can do just that at the Universal Studios gift shop.

If updating the ‘Gram is what you’re after, then you’re in for a treat. The Celebrate Wicked installation has various photo spots for you to conduct your own photoshoots. For starters, there’s a stage designed with a huge door that you’ll find Glinda and Elphaba stationed at for meet-and-greet sessions, so don’t be shy to ask for a pic.

But be warned; the door at the back occasionally opens to reveal an animatronic head of Wizard of Oz. The disembodied head even speaks like the one in the movie, so don’t be too spooked when you hear its deep rumbling voice for the first time.

Digital Light Canvas & Future World at Marina Bay Sands

If you’re looking to add a dose of light and colour to your holidays, add Digital Light Canvas by teamLab and Future World to your list. With teamLab being a world-renowned international art collective, you can expect your time here to be no less than mesmerising and memorable.

Located inside Marina Bay Sands, Digital Light Canvas’ famous floor panel is made up of individually controlled LEDs, and its stunning light sculpture measures 14m tall with countless full-coloured LEDs. Meanwhile, Future World is located within ArtScience Museum right next door, where you can also find The World of Studio Ghibli.

Digital Light Canvas

Engaging displays & custom gifts

If you’ve taken a close look at Digital Light Canvas before, you’ll notice that the interactive floor monitor showcases a magical world of nature. It even has beautiful flowers which bloom with each step that guests take, and colourful animals wandering around.

What you may not have known is that the flowers and animals gliding around are all artworks by visitors. To add in a masterpiece of your own, pick out a stencil and grab a seat. A wide selection of crayons is provided so get creative and colour away.

Once you’re satisfied with your piece, get it scanned with the help of staff at the scanning station to add your work to the ever-evolving ecosystem. In no time, you’ll be able to see your creation with everyone else’s on the panel.

Sketch Factory – Transform your art into t-shirts, totes & badges

Get the full experience by transforming your digital artwork into unique merch at the Sketch Factory.

The helpful staff advised us to put in a flower and an animal for a more cohesive look.

To get started, head to the ordering counter where you can pick up to 2 of your designs to put on a t-shirt ($20 for child size, $25 for adult size), tote bag ($20), or badge ($4). You’ll get to pick from roughly 8 variations of your piece, so take your time to decide which you like the most.

Their badge-making machine which prints out your design and brings it to life.

After you’ve decided, bring your receipt to the Sketch Factory counter where you can watch the process of your artwork getting printed onto the chosen merch. You may even get to see your piece “swim” towards the customisation counter from the main panel.

Voila, there you have it, your one-of-a-kind merch, perfect for a meaningful Christmas gift. Better yet, there’s no limit to how many you can make – so go ahead and make a whole collection of matching pieces. Be it family, friends, or colleagues, these gifts are ideal for spreading joy and showing off your shared bond in a fun, stylish way.

Future World: Where Art Meets Science

Immersive installations with interactive elements

Why stop there when you can keep the fun going right next door at Future World: Where Art Meets Science? This is where you’ll find even more interactive experiences for all ages. Here are our favourites:

City in a Garden

With 8 installations in this section, the first go-to experience in the City in a Garden zone is the Transcending Boundaries artwork that greets visitors upon entry. It features a breathtaking interactive waterfall that gracefully flows down the wall and spills onto the floor. The water even reacts like regular water, flowing around where you touch or step.

It’s accompanied by an ecosystem of flowers that go through all 4 seasons of the year, so you’ll be able to journey through winter, autumn, spring, and summer all without having to leave the country.

Another fun experience for visitors of all ages is Sliding through the Fruit Field. People coming down from the slide represent sunlight being transferred to the fruit field, causing flowers and fruit to blossom and ripen.

Exploring New Frontiers

Can you spot the TSL plane?

Similar to how the Sketch Factory at Digital Light Canvas works, Future World has a Sketch Flight installation where you can colour in planes, birds, or butterflies that come to life and fly around a magical world of colours. You can even borrow a tablet from the counter to control the flight movements of your creation.

Children and parents can also try out Aerial Climbing through a Flock of Coloured Birds. With paths of varying difficulties, we suggest starting with the blue path that won’t leave you too winded.

Last but not least, end your visit at Crystal Universe, the most popular spot for IG pics. The seemingly endless array of glowing light points creates the illusion of stars moving through space. There’s even a QR code you can scan to then be able to control the lights.

Visit Digital Light Canvas & Future World

Get into the festive spirit with a day out to Digital Light Canvas and Future World with your loved ones. While they are open year-round, take advantage of the Sketch Factory at Digital Light Canvas to make customised gifts just in time for Christmas, and foolproof your family outing plans with Future World’s many aesthetic photo ops for memorable pictures.

Take advantage of a special ticket bundle to experience both Future World and Digital Light Canvas at a discounted rate.

Free entry to Gardens by the Bay for Singaporeans

Holding a Singapore Passport may require us to fork out $150 to get into the MBS Casino. But walk 700m down and the same passport can get you complimentary admission into our beloved Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. In our latest series of things we’re not gatekeeping, here’s a hack for all local fans to get free entry into Gardens by the Bay.

Can I visit Gardens by the Bay for free?

Well, of course, most of the beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces can be accessed by anyone for free. The grounds cover a pretty big area of 540,000sqm, so if you want to clock in your daily steps, simply complete a full circle.

To check out specific highlights, follow the online gardens map for directions to “hidden” spots like the Big Fish Aquarium and Victoria Lily Pond. There’s even a free water playground for kiddos to splash around in.

There are, however, 5 main attractions that require one to purchase an entry ticket. Namely, Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, Floral Fantasy, OCBC Skyway, and Supertree Observatory.

When it comes to the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, non-residents only have the option of getting a package for both attractions at $32/adult and $18/child.

Singaporeans can purchase individual tickets for either attraction or get the same combined package for $20/adult and $12/child.

Now, if you want to save on the entrance fee for Cloud Forest listen up. You’ve got to camp on the GBTB website on the first Wednesday of each month and register for one of their free Nature and Sustainability Tours.

These 1-hour tours happen every Saturday and Sunday at 2 timings: 8.30am-9.30am and 10.30am-11.30am. But choose wisely as only selected tours include free entry into the conservatory for Singaporeans.

Take note that some of these tours are having their last sessions in December 2024 and will not be available thereafter. However, there are also a couple of new tours starting in 2025.

Tour Time Free entry zone Availability
Energy and Water Tour 8.30am-9.30am Cloud Forest All year round

Urban Wetlands Tour 10.30am-11.30am Till 29th Dec 2024

A Sensory Stroll – Can Eat or Not? 10.30am-11.30am From 4th Jan 2025

Each tour allows roughly 20 participants to join and spaces run out pretty quickly. Hence, it’s best to plan early on which day and tour you’re interested in.

Pro tip: Sign-ups are via Eventbrite so follow Gardens by the Bay on the platform to be notified whenever new tour dates are released. And voila! You’ve got yourself a fun weekend activity planned, plus free entry to the Cloud Forest.

Having said that, don’t be kiasu and book multiple back-to-back tours as the meeting points are quite far apart and require a fair bit of walking. If you’re more than 10 minutes late, you may be denied entry to the tour.

What is the difference between Flower Dome and Cloud Forest?

For the uninitiated, Cloud Forest is the dome with the gorgeous waterfall – one of the tallest in the world. It’s been designed to mimic a mountain with aerial walkways bringing you higher up to view the exotic plants from around the world that thrive in mountainous climates.

The Flower Dome is one of the largest glass greenhouses in the world and often holds themed floral displays such as tulips from Türkiye and sunflowers from Spain. At the moment, the Christmas Train Show is on display.

How much time is needed for Gardens by the Bay?

If you plan to see the garden in its entirety, you’ll probably need a good 3-4 hours. Each of the domes takes about an hour to explore, and you’ll need another 30 minutes at the Skywalk. You won’t want to miss Insta-worthy spots like the Dragonfly Lake and Serene Garden either.

Factor in time for resting and filling your tummies too. When it comes to Gardens by the Bay food options, there’s Shake Shack, McDonald’s, a couple of cafes, and sit-down restaurants like TungLok Seafood.

If you’re looking for variety then head to Satay by the Bay for local delights or the indoor Jurassic Nest food hall. Btw, when the weather is pleasant, it might also be a good idea to pack food for a picnic in the gardens.

How to get to Gardens by the Bay?

The easiest way to get there via public transport is to take the MRT to Bayfront Station and get out from Exit B. Follow the underground linkway to Gardens by the Bay. This side is closer to the Dragonfly Bridge and the Meadow Bridge and will get you to the ticket counter.

If you’ve already bought tickets online, you can choose to get off at Gardens by the Bay Station and walk along the Singapore River towards Cloud Forest and Flower Dome.

Plus, when you sign up for one of these free educational tours by Gardens by the Bay, you also get to say you learnt something new that day!
