If you’ve been to Beauty World Food Centre, you might have come across Wiped Out amongst the other eateries there. This place gives off the heartland atmosphere with its casual setting and also the surrounding HDB blocks nearby. These don’t block the view though, which gives a great backdrop of the “heartland” skyline. Not something you can find at a regular ol’ hawker.

Don’t let looks deceive though, they have quite a few types of craft beers and some classics like Heineken and Guinness on tap. There’s also an option for a Bucket of 5 that you get to mix and match them too. These would go well with some Satay Bee Hoon from Jin Li Satay Bee Hoon or a Sizzle Mix Grilled Platter from Big Boys Sizzling Hotplate.

Best rooftop bars in Singapore

Finding the right bar can be quite a daunting task, even more so if you’re looking for the right rooftop one. Hopefully, this list has given you some direction to pick out the ones that best match the vibes and the people of the outing.

NOVA rooftop bar at One Raffles Place

Many of us are guilty of complaining that there’s nothing to do in Singapore, and we often use this as an excuse to enjoy a quick getaway in Johor Bahru or look for the next fun thing to do. But our recent visit to NOVA was a game-changer as this multisensory rooftop bar was truly something else.

Dubbed the highest rooftop bar in Singapore, NOVA is on the 63rd floor of One Raffles Place and offers an unobstructed panoramic view of the city. If you’re looking for rooftop bars in Singapore to enjoy a sky-high experience with good food and chill vibes, NOVA is one for the books.

Soak up the good music & chill vibes

Nova Rooftop Bar - lift lobby

Before we dive into the world of NOVA, here’s a quick guide to getting there: head to the 62nd floor of One Raffles Place, where the entrance of the rooftop bar HighHouse greets you.

talent in NOVA lift

There, you’ll see another lift that brings you up to NOVA. This hidden, secretive element piqued our curiosity even before we set foot into the rooftop bar, and as soon as the elevator door opened, we were in awe of how stunning the space was.

Nova Rooftop Bar - Star-shaped steel structure in the air

The first thing that grabbed our attention was this colossal, star-shaped steel sculpture in the air. Fun fact: this beautiful centrepiece named ASTRA was designed by light artist, Jun Ong, who is based in Kuala Lumpur. While the artwork can mean many things to different people, Jun created it to reflect the bustling, dynamic city vibes.

ASTRA vibrant colours at night

ASTRA is even more spectacular against the sunset, showcasing its vibrant colours best at night. Seeing it in real life, we could see why it’s the most popular spot for taking pictures.

Enjoy the sunset & breathtaking city views

Sweeping view of Marina Bay

The sky is – quite literally – the limit at NOVA, as the bar is perched 282m above ground. You get the best view of Marina Bay here as it overlooks all the iconic skyscrapers in Singapore.

Golden hour

If time permits, we recommend getting here in the evening to catch the sunset; taking a sip of their cocktail while gazing at the sunset offered us some respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Nova Rooftop Bar - DJ Booth & dance floor

The rooftop bar is cleverly separated into 2 levels, where you have the DJ booth playing all kinds of music genres on the lower level with occasional live performances. Fun fact, the furniture at the lower deck is actually modular. This means the space can be transformed into a dance floor for guests to get their boogie on.

Nova Rooftop Bar - ASTRA in DJ Booth

No matter where you’re standing or sitting, the latest sound system allows you to enjoy the music in all its glory. For the latest updates on parties and events, as well as what DJs will be spinning, stay tuned to NOVA’s Instagram page.

talent admiring the sweeping city view

After you’re done exploring the first level, climb a flight of stairs and you’ll get to the main seating area with plenty of bar stools. Pick your favourite spot to enjoy the view!

Feast on an extensive selection of bites & brews

Nova Rooftop Bar - hanging out with friends over food & drinks

A night out with friends isn’t complete without some bites and drinks. NOVA comes through with an extensive range of cocktails, small bites, and even meals. From fresh oysters and Indonesian noodles to tom yum fries and churros, just name it and they probably have it.

Nova Rooftop Bar - Hot Platter

If you’re indecisive like us, their Hot Platter ($98) is a great choice as you get 4 different options, which means there’s surely something that will tickle your fancy. Do note that the Hot Platter is only available from 6pm-9.30pm.

Nova Rooftop Bar - Grilled Spanish Octopus

It comes with Grilled Spanish Octopus doused in Thai-spice dressing and a generous serving of Seasonal Vegetable Tempura, paired with sweet-spicy Szechuan garlic sauce.

Slow Cooked Australian Lamb Ribs with 5 pieces of Crispy Chicken

Meat lovers will love the choice of platter comprising Slow Cooked Australian Lamb Ribs in a rack of 5, alongside 5 pieces of Crispy Chicken. The former is marinated in garlic and scallion XO sauce, while the latter is evenly coated in gochujang sauce drizzled with mayonnaise. We appreciated the side of sesame cabbage slaw as it helped to quell the heavy flavours.

talent drinking cocktails

Moving on to cocktails, we tried 3 of their unique creations: the Sticky Mango Highball ($20) was a collective favourite as it was reminiscent of a sweet fruit-flavoured beverage, and is a great choice for those who don’t fancy strong alcoholic drinks.

Nova Rooftop Bar - Roselle & Tobacco & Grain cocktails

The Roselle ($22) tasted just as good as it looked—this tangy concoction features a winning combination of gin, sour roselle, sweet red vermouth, and soda. For something a little stronger, we recommend the Tobacco & Grain ($22), starring Haku vodka, and champagne. This drink strikes a good balance of spicy and woody notes, and the flavour grows on you the more you drink it.

Ume Maru at Far East Plaza

Secret bar alert! Some of you may recall a hidden izakaya-style bar in Bugis that only reveals itself once you “enter” a row of vending machines. The same folks behind that bar – Ume San 100 – have opened another bar of a similar concept but this time you’ll discover that the Japanese speakeasy is tucked behind a row of bookshelves.

You can find Ume Maru on the fifth floor of Far East Plaza and we highly recommend you add this place to your list of things to do in Orchard at night.

All you need to know about Ume Maru

Ume Maru at Far East Plaza - manga bookshelves

For anyone unaware of its existence, Ume Maru looks like a typical Japanese bookstore from the outside. The floor-to-ceiling shelves feature popular titles on display such as Naruto, School Rumble, and Rave Master. If that visual has got you anime and manga lovers excited, just wait till you get inside.

Simply push open the bookshelf right under the lighted up “Ume Maru” sign and you’ll find yourself in a bar themed after Jimbocho, Tokyo’s popular bookstore district. Video clips of popular anime series are projected on the walls and light features in the shape of books are hanging from the ceiling.

And yes, feel free to browse through the comic books while sipping on their cocktails.

What’s on the menu at Ume Maru?

During the day, the establishment acts as a Bento Bar serving lunch sets (from $9.90) between 12pm and 2.30pm. Dishes include Chicken Teriyaki Bento ($9.90), Ebi Curry Bento ($15.90), and Happy Avocado Maki ($15).

Come night, the place turns into a bar serving sharing dishes, mains, and plenty of drinks. To start off, the group can order Wagyu Kushi ($24) grilled skewers, Truffle Hotplate Maki ($20), and Crudo ($18) with salmon, tuna, and scallops.

If a full-on dinner is on the cards, then continue the night with their signature Yuzu Soba ($24), Spicy Miso Dry Ramen ($18), or Sushi Moriawase ($28).

Image adapted from: @umemarusg via Instagram

Now, let’s talk about the drinks. It goes without saying that Ume Maru serves umeshu-based cocktails. The strawberry version of this plum wine is mixed with tequila in a cocktail known as Songbird ($22).

One you’ll see ordered consistently throughout the evening is Matxha, featuring matcha umeshu, of course. The concoction also contains matcha tea, elderflower, and yuzu marmalade.

Ume Maru at Far East Plaza - light of nara cocktail

Light of Nara ($22) is another cocktail that features muscat umeshu, nashi pear umeshu, and rose vermouth. Paying homage to the city of Nara, the drink is served in a gorgeous deer-shaped glass too.

Apart from the cocktails, patrons will be able to savour highballs (from $16) and a vast collection of house craft whiskies (from $16). Choose to pair these with your food or with a curated selection of chocolate bonbons.

Have a drink or two at Ume Maru, a manga-themed bar in Orchard

We love all things Japan and Ume Maru is yet another new restaurant and bar in Singapore to check out. Combined with the promise of a speakeasy adventure and manga theme, it’s the perfect recipe for a fun evening in Orchard.

Parkview Square in Bugis

Unanimously dubbed “Gotham City building” amongst Singaporeans, Parkview Square looks like it came straight out of a Batman film. Drawing inspiration from NYC’s Chanin Building – a skyscraper in Manhattan – its exterior features a brown lacquer finish, and its open plaza spots many statues of famous intellectuals including Mozart and Rembrandt.

If admiring the building from outside isn’t enough, head on in and be transported back to 1920s New Orleans – think red carpets, intricate wall carvings, stained glass windows, and jazz.

An iconic Art Deco monument

Parkview Square

Nestled in the centre of Bugis, the towering building of Parkview Square is hard to miss, considering how different it looks compared to the surrounding malls and hotels.

Not only does it look expensive, it actually is expensive. Parkview Square has previously been nominated as one of the most costly office buildings in our city.

Fun fact: it’s also home to several foreign embassies including the United Arab Emirates, Austria, and Mongolia.

Parkview Square - Artwork

The 3rd floor used to be the grounds for Parkview Museum, which used to hold frequent exhibitions focusing on international contemporary art. Unfortunately, it has closed down permanently and relocated its headquarters to Beijing instead.

Parkview Square - The Golden Crane

However, that doesn’t mean the building lost all its artistic panache. One of its main art pieces, The Golden Crane, still remains outside the entrance of the building.

It depicts a crane who yearns to go back to its birthplace, a temple in Hubei, China. There is a Chinese poem scripted on its base which talks about homesickness, and the creature is also facing in the direction of China.

ATLAS bar – Largest gin collection in the world

Before ATLAS bar got its reputation for being a gin enthusiast hotspot, it was actually a wine connoisseur’s playground. This grandiose bar was named Divine Wine Extraordinaire at that time, and what is a 3-storey gin tower now was previously a wine chiller.

It currently houses the largest gin collection in the world so gin enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice. Yes, there are over 1,000 different gins here, plus a good selection of other spirits.

Parkview Square - Martini
ATLAS Martini.

Notable cocktails include the signature ATLAS Martini (from $26) – a complex concoction of Ford’s London Dry Gin, blanco vermouth, orange bitters, and Champagne vinegar. If you prefer something a little more zesty and elegant, try the ATLAS French 75 (from $26) – a mix of the same gin with some champagne, peach, lemon, and salt.

Parkview Square - Shipwrecked champagne

For something truly special and if you have $100k to drop, check out the Goût Americain 1907 Heidsieck & Co Monopole – touted as the world’s most expensive champagne that was found at the bottom of an ocean in a shipwreck.

For most of us, just knowing that we’re sitting within the vicinity of such an incredible piece of history is good enough. I mean, the bottles are over a hundred years old, survived a sinking ship, and there’s still champagne in them.

Parkview Square - Beef
Image credit: ATLAS Singapore via Facebook

Although known mainly for its alcoholic beverages, the bar boasts a pretty extensive food menu too. Relish in refreshing starters such as Oysters Mignonette with Lemon (from $38) or if you’ve got space for a main, check out Steak Frites (from $48) – sirloin or ribeye topped with smoked bone marrow butter and paired with shoestring fries.

Parkview Square - Creme Brulee

As the saying goes, “There’s always room for dessert”. So, dig into some Warm Madeleines (from $18) or Creme Brulee (from $18) to end your meal with a sweet treat.

Parkview Square – visit Singapore’s Gotham building

Whether you’re just dropping by when in Bugis or are specifically looking for a new enclave to meet like-minded gin fans, it’s safe to say that Parkview Square is an architectural icon that’s bound to wow its visitors. Definitely worth bookmarking if you’ve got overseas friends visiting Singapore for the first time.

Getting here: Alight at Bugis MRT, exit the station via Exit E, then walk 30m to Parkview Square.

Best bars in Singapore

Chilling over a drink with friends is one of the best ways to end off a tiring day. But deciding on where to drink isn’t always easy, especially if you’re new to the bar scene. To find a watering hole that’s suitable for you, we’ve come up with a list of the best bars in Singapore for all you drinking newbies.

1. Fish Pool

Live mermaid performances with premium seafood & tropical cocktails

Best Bars In Singapore Fish Pool

Under the sea takes on a whole new meaning at Fish Pool, JW Marriott Singapore South Beach’s underwater cocktail bar in The NCO Club. It’s open Wednesdays to Saturdays, when you can wine and dine with interactive mermaid performances in their Olympic-sized diving pool, happening each night at 7.15pm.

Treat yourself to a selection of raw, premium seafood inspired by Asian, European and Latin American flavours – think Ceviche ($26++), swimming in a coconut leche de tigre, and Hamachi ($24++) dressed in a combination of melon, citrus soya sauce, mint, and lime kosho.

On the drinks front, check out Ocean Inspiration ($28++) for an oceanic tipple concocted with oyster tincture and smoky 10 year-Laphroaig, or R&T Heights ($28++) – rum and tonic, rather than gin and tonic, with a tropical twist. Book your table on the Fish Pool website.

Address: 32 Beach Road, Singapore 189764
Opening hours: Wed-Sat 6pm-9pm (Closed Sun-Tue)

Take a stroll through the idyllic neighbourhood of Duxton, and you might find yourself gravitating like a moth to the flame towards the opulence of Duxton Reserve and its in-house bar – Anouska’s.

Designed by former bond girl and actress turned designer Anouska Hempel, this namesake bar embodies the glamour of the Prohibition era with its stained glass statement pieces and a gold and black colour theme. The menu takes you on a journey across Asia with shelf spirits, premium wines, local craft beers, artisanal Chinese teas and cocktails injected with nostalgic Eastern influences.

Ready yourself for a trip around the orient with cocktails such as On Her Majesty’s Secret Service ($26++), a gin-based tipple with hints of yuzu and green tea bitters and Chen Pi Collins ($26++), a combination of mandarin-infused gin, sparkling water, citrus and rock sugar.

If you’re feeling peckish, make sure to order some food off the menu from the adjacent Yellow Pot Restaurant. You won’t go wrong with some Fried Lion’s Mane Mushrooms ($27++) served with farm fresh avocado purée, Fried Prawns ($32++) topped with Bonito Aioli or pop a couple of highly addictive Szechuan Crispy Chicken ($41++) – all paired perfectly with a selection of cocktails.

Another bar to check out at The NCO Club in JW Marriott Singapore South Beach is Cool Cats – live music lounge with music-inspired drinks. This modern take on speakeasies sees live jazz, soul, blue, and R&B acts, in a heritage building that dates back to the 1950s.

Raise a glass to Ella Fitzgerald, Queen of Jazz, with Singapore Sling 75 ($28++), made with our very own Tanglin Orchid gin, or take a trip to Harlem with the Harlem Revolution ($28++). This whiskey cocktail spotlights Maker’s Mark Kentucky Bourbon, otherwise the Truffle Pisco Negroni ($28++) is a 3-ingredient tipple starring truffle fat-washed Pisco.

Look forward to acts by regional and international artistes each evening, with cover charges varying according to where you wish to be seated. These start from $20 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and from $28 from Thursday to Saturday.

Book your seats on the Cool Cats website.

6. Tippling Club

Original cocktail creations

bars in singapore tippling club

If you’re bored of the usual bar offerings like a gin and tonic or screwdrivers, then have a go at Tippling Club’s cocktails. Cocktails here stray from the usual mixes and instead use interesting bases like cognac and bourbon that’s been aged in beeswax.

These original creations are the brainchild from chef and owner Ryan Clift. He’s interpreted iconic music from the 40s to the 90s into cocktail form ($22-$39). From a whisky-based classic inspired by Ella Fitzgerald to a fragrant rum concoction with Michael Jackson’s namesake, it’s going to be difficult to just order one drink here.

Address: 38 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088461
Opening hours: Mon-Tue & Thu 12pm-1am | Fri-Sat 12pm-2am (Closed on Wednesdays & Sundays)
Contact: 6475 2217 | Tippling Club website

7. Jigger & Pony

Award-winning cocktails

If you’re fresh to the bar scene but would like to dive straight into Singapore’s best drinks, do include Jigger & Pony’s award-winning cocktails in your list. The bar has consistently been ranked on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list.

The bar’s winning strategy is to take on the classics and do them really well, like in their version of the Espresso Martini ($28), which taps on the flavour profile of coffee flower honey to elevate the nuanced bitterness of espresso and cacao tuile in the drink.

We also recommend giving Soy Milk Punch ($28) a shot. This drink combines soy milk punch with lychee syrup, oolong tea, and Roku gin, and is served with a layer of red wine float.

Address: 165 Tanjong Pagar Road, Amara Hotel, Singapore 088539
Opening hours: Wed-Thu 6pm-1am | Fri-Sat 6pm-2pm | Sun-Tue 6pm-12am (Closed on Mondays)

8. Native

Locally-inspired cocktails like Keluak Martini & Pandan

Those whose hobbies include checking out cocktail bars probably don’t need an introduction to Native. Here, the cocktails are inspired by local flavours – think a Keluak Martini ($25), made up of buah keluak distillate, chickpea miso, and Gayo coffee liquer, and Jasmine ($25) – a concoction of rojak gin, garnished with kaffir lime leaves and sour plum.

Native’s Miang Kham.

Food-wise, Native has bar bites with heavy spices that make good pairings with the locally inspired drinks. You can’t go wrong with the Native’s Miang Kham ($18), their interpretation of a traditional snack from Thailand and Laos. Otherwise, get the Charred Chilli Chaat ($17), which comes with ingredients such as banana peppers, peanut and sesame stuffing, Indian salsa, and black calamansi.

Address: 52A Amoy Street, Singapore 069878
Opening hours: Mon-Sat 6pm-12am (Closed on Sundays)
Contact: 8869 6520 | Native website

9. Forest3 Cafe

Darts & karaoke in the CBD

If you need a new after-work hangout spot, it’s time to bookmark Forest3 Cafe, a darts and KTV bar in the CBD that’s practically an adult playground. Grab a drink and head to one of the many dart machines – there are 22 to be exact.

You’ll have to purchase Dartslive credits (from $10), which comes with 2 hours to play, with a minimum spend of 1 drink per person. But don’t worry, prices here are reasonable. House pours starting from $10, or opt for a bucket bundle at $45 for 5 bottles of Carlsberg, Heineken, or Corona beer. House darts are free at the counter – you just have to pay a $3 deposit, which you’ll get back upon returning all darts.

If you’re more of a KTV person, grab the mic and show off your singing skills on the open-style karaoke podium.

Address: 79 Anson Road, #01-02, Singapore 079906
Opening hours: Mon-Thu 4pm-12am | Fri-Sat 4pm-2am (Closed on Sundays)
Contact: 8898 6353 | Forest3 Cafe website

10. The Store

$11 cocktails & appetisers from 4pm-6pm

Cocktail bars may be slightly more expensive, but The Store has a pretty good lobang going on. From 4pm-6pm every Tuesday to Saturday, you can get $11 cocktails and appetisers off a special menu. Some options include the Pineapple Collins – made up of London Dry Gin, Fresh Lemon, Pineapple Puree, and Fizz – and Tommy’s Margarita

For appetisers, have your pick from the sour dough with guacamole and baba ganoush or tortilla chips with cheese and corn salsa

The bar itself is super aesthetic too. Upon entering The Store, it’ll feel as if you just stepped into someone’s living room, complete with leather couches and colourful rugs. Just keep a lookout for the entrance, though – it’s rather hidden with no signboards outside.

Address: 11 Neil Road, Singapore 088809
Opening hours: Tue-Sat 4pm-12am (Closed on Mondays & Sundays)
Contact: 8731 1883 | The Store website

11. Sago House

Hidden on the 3rd floor of a shop house

Sago House is easily one of the coolest speakeasies in town. It’s tucked in between the stretch of eateries along Sago Street; all you have to do is look for a green door which will open up to a flight of stairs leading you to the 3rd floor. But don’t be fooled by its unpretentiousness, the cocktails here are worth shouting about.

We can’t recommend a cocktail here, since the menu changes every week. But look forward to unique tipples such as Mala Xiao La, a concoction of Bombay Sapphire Gin, Mala Cordial, watermelon, and lemon. Otherwise, just ask the bartender to shake up a bespoke cocktail according to your tastes.

Address: 40B Sago Street, Singapore 059029
Opening hours: Tue-Sun 6pm-12am (Closed on Mondays)
Contact: 8874 9936 | Sago House website

12. Potato Head Folk

Rooftop bar at Keong Saik

Potato Head Folk’s Roof Top Bar is a 2-storey bar set in the neighbourhood of Keong Saik. Its decor is full of vibrancy, with walls splashed with murals and potted plants hanging from the ceiling. Just one level below is 1939, a vintage-looking bar complete with antique furniture sets, rattan armchairs, and a semi-circle bar counter.

Right below both bars is 3 Buns – Potato Head Folk’s quirky cafe that’s known to serve up gourmet burgers using house-made relishes.

End the day by watching the sunset while sipping on the bar’s signature tiki cocktails such as Garden Spritz ($21), a spin on the classic Aperol Spritz with elderflower and orange. You can stick to the classics too, if you prefer. The Sangria Grande ($25) takes the classic wine-based mix up a notch with the addition of whisky.

The menus for both 1939 and The Rooftop Bar are completely identical, so you don’t have to worry about having your orders mixed up.

Address: 36 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089143
Opening hours: 12pm-12am, Daily

13. Epiphyte

Desserts that look like terrariums

Image credit: Epiphyte Sg via Facebook

A garden-inspired space that hosts frequent weekend parties? Count us in. Taking inspiration from the definition of “epiphyte”, Epiphyte decorates its interiors with vines and ferns that hang from its walls and ceilings.

We recommend sitting by the corner of the cafe, also known as The Garden section.

Image credits: Epiphyte Sg via Facebook

Decorations aside, the desserts at this bar are also inspired by florals and ferns. We’re talking edible terrariums made out of chocolate and marble glazed desserts infused with alcohol.

They currently have an entire menu dedicated to cheeky drinks like Dracola ($20). It’s a pleasantly surprising blend of spiced rum, orange, homemade cola, and soda.

Then there are the limited-time monthly releases that see innovative cocktails made with unconventional ingredients like wine foam and even tau huay. Each month is a surprise, so tune in to their Instagram page for updates.

If you prefer something lighter, check out the bar’s craft beer cocktails. We recommend their signature Flair From Paris ($25), which consists of the wheat beer, lychee syrup, berry syrup, champagne, and creme de casis. Food wise, check out their Seabass ($39), a pan-seared fillet served with squid noodles, saffron beer beurre blanc, and watercress salad.

16. Timbre Signatures

Music bar at an old parliament building

Timbre best bars singapore

Timbre Signatures needs no introduction. Most of us would have hit this bar with friends at least once to catch the live bands that perform just about every night. The bar has also shifted around Singapore a number of times, but has finally settled down at The Arts House, located in Singapore’s first parliament building.

Musical acts are still a major part of the Timbre X experience, and you’ll be able to catch mainstays like Monty Crew and Supersonic starting from 7.30pm.

In terms of food and drinks, Timbre X has an array of pizzas and both Western and local mains that pair perfectly with a pint of beer or cocktail. Out of their extensive drinks menu, we recommend trying out Sakura ($18) – a crowd favourite since 2008 which contains vodka, lychee liqueur, and Ribena.

17. Long Bar

Birthplace of the Singapore Sling

We’ve tasted numerous Singapore Slings around the island, but if you’re looking for the birthplace of this drink, Long Bar at Raffles Hotel is where you should fix your eyes and palate on.

Their Singapore Sling ($39) was first created in 1915 for the sole purpose of giving women an excuse to drink alcohol in public without being judged as immodest. The drink was created with a feminine pink hue to pass off as nothing more than fruit juice when it’s actually infused with a clear base of gin.

bars in singapore - long bar

The bar has a unique culture of encouraging guests to sweep peanut shells off tables so when you see the floor littered with peanut remnants, don’t be surprised. We’re quite sure this is the only place in Singapore that doesn’t penalise people for “littering”.

Book a Singapore Sling with a visit to the Long Bar.

Address: 1 Beach Road, Singapore 189673
Opening hours: Mon-Thu 3pm-10.45pm | Fri-Sun 12pm-10.45pm

If you’re looking for an extra luxurious drinking experience, check out Atlas – a bar inspired by The Great Gatsby. The interior is opulently decorated with gold-plated statues, posh sofas and an alcohol shelf stretching across 2 levels. The ceiling is another stunner as it’s intricately decorated with bronze-coloured details of antelopes galloping through trees and fields.

The bar has over 1,000 various of gins and tonics but if you want a personalised surprise, opt for the Bartender’s Choice G&T (from $26). These drinks use a rotating selection of gin from the Gin Tower, and might differ night-to-night, depending on who’s on bartending duty that day.

Drinks wise, The Spiffy Dapper’s got an impressive range of alcohol selections, with over 150 types of gin alone.

Out of all the drinks in their menu, we recommend giving their Shiekh On The Level ($20) a shot. The beverage contains ingredients such as Turkish black tea, gin sour, cardamom before being topped with a Turkish delight for a sweet finish.

27. Hopscotch

The bar also creates customised drinks through a simple game. To play, simply give bartenders 3 random words about anything related to your drink preferences and they’ll spin a cocktail mix out of it.

Working a 9-5 is pretty intense and for those who need to take a chill pill, pop by Bar Canary. Situated on the 4th floor of Grand Park Orchard, the bar is decked out in numerous lounge chairs and cushions, complete with a pool that you can jump into even if you’re not a guest at the hotel.

Be sure to also try out their refreshing range of Boozy Pop ($18) cocktails, which come with popsicles. Our favourites are Acai Pomegranate, which contains rum and brandy, and Coconut Lemongrass, served with coconut ice cream and Malibu rum.

(Closed) Loof

Loof rooftop bar in Singapore is a good place to head to for nostalgic vibes. If you’re wondering how the bar got its name, it’s actually a play on how Singaporeans pronounce “roof” as “loof”.

Aside from celebrating the quirky side of Singlish, the bar also takes a twist to our local bubble tea flavours. Loof Bubble Tea ($21) combines the usual fruity flavours of passion fruit, lemon with yoghurt together with vodka, gin and rum.

Aside from drinking, you’ll be able to explore The Mama Shop, a knick-knack store within the watering hole with local souvenirs.

(Closed) NINETEEN80

With walls plastered with pixelated murals, cut-out vintage comics splashed across their corridors and a slew of retro gaming machines that run on complimentary tokens, Nineteen80’s fun streak takes the edge off drinking for those new to the alcohol scene. Games you can find here include Metal Slug and Pacman.

Theme aside, their cocktails are just as enticing. Donna Summer ($20) is the house’s signature cocktail, which features a fruity mixture of strawberry puree, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur and white rum, topped with a strawberry slice. The best part? All the drinks are inclusive of GST and there’s no service charge, so you won’t be shook when footing the bill.

(Closed) Holey Moley

Just as we thought we’ve seen it all, Holey Moley, Singapore’s first ever mini-golf bar, comes along to surprise us with their 27 wacky-themed holes split across 3 courses. The 2-storey bar is just a short 3-minute walk from Fort Canning MRT station and is vibrantly lit with witty neon signs.

Their eye-catching courses feature iconic themes from films and TV shows such as Game of Thrones, The Simpsons and ET.

To take a breather from all that swinging, head to The Caddyshack Bar and check out their cocktails. Try the eye-catching and refreshing Fresh as a Birdie ($19), which features hints of Pampero White Rum, elderflower liqueur, and lime juice before being topped with a fruit stick and watermelon slice.

(Closed) Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall

Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall may sound like any other run-off-the-mill hawker store but it is actually a bar that concocts bespoke local cocktails. Just a short walk along Boat Quay, the quaint bar is a convenient hideout for those looking for a good view and a quiet place for intimate conversations.

From the outside, the place looks like an old provision shop, but you’re in for a surprise as you climb up the stairs.

The bar features custom-made drinks using local ingredients. This includes Milo Dinosaur ($24) and Laksa ($24). The latter uses elements of the dish like Laksa leaves, chili padi, dried shrimp powder and mixing it with vodka for a whole new take on Laksa.

Food wise, the bar serves up familiar favourites like Fried Hokkien Mee ($12) and Fried Carrot Cake with XO sauce ($12). But we’d go there more for the bespoke drinks as it’s not often you can find a bar in Singapore that specialises in transforming local dishes into cocktails.

(Closed) Kabuke

Fans of sake, check out Kabuke – a Japanese bar inspired by Kabuki theatre in Japan. The bold colours of the bar are characteristic of the vibrant colours used in Japanese plays.

You can’t miss the 2 giant hand-painted fans that serve as dividers to host different party groups within the bar. Aside from their decor, their food and drinks here are both worth a shot.

Food wise, we recommend giving their Pleasure Bowl ($62) a try – it’s a dish made out of the most pleasurable ingredients including wagyu beef, foie gras, and uni. For their drinks, it’s only fitting to sip on sake and beer to go along with the izakaya-esque menu. You can get the house pour selections from $18/glass.

Drinking at the best bars in Singapore

Singapore’s drinking scene is pretty vibrant, with all sorts of bars popping up around town. If anything, we hope this list gives you a more organised head start to better understand Singapore’s drinking culture through the little quirks and unique concoctions each bar offers up.

Exit Stage Left, a hidden bar by New World’s End

It’s no secret we have interesting bar concepts in Singapore, from a Harry Potter-themed bar with flaming cocktails to Lou Shang’s HDB estate aesthetic. And now, a new contender Exit Stage Left joins the lineup of themed hidden bars in Singapore

Exit Stage Left is hidden in a back alley along Desker Road in Jalan Besar. Step through it’s red door and you’ll feel like you’ve travelled back in time to the 1960s. But unlike most bars, this new one has some secrets of its own.

Speakeasy accessible at the back of New World’s End

exit stage left - bar

Of course, this bar, like any other, takes reservations and thirsty walk-ins. First of all, it’s located at the back of a popular immersive audio tour, New World’s End

This tour takes place in a “replica” of New World Amusement Park which actually stood nearby in the 1920s. Set in the 60s, the story follows 2 star-crossed lovers – a projectionist at a cinema and a cabaret singer. We won’t spoil the ending but it involves one of Singapore’s largest civil disasters – the Hotel New World collapse.

exit stage left - new world's end

One of the stops in the tour is a vibey light installation modelled after a cabaret in this now-defunct recreation spot. But push past its red door and curtains and you’ll find this bar that’s a homage to Singapore’s swingin’ 60s. Think: vintage furnishings, tastefully warm lighting with splashes of neon. Checkerboard floors and old-school leather bar stools surround the bar.

While they may not have the widest selection of spirits, trust us when we say this bar has nostalgia on tap. It’s the endpoint for New World’s End, but even if you didn’t sign-up for the hour-long immersive experience, you can still make a reservation via Exit Stage Left’s Instagram.

Singapore-inspired cocktails & free-flow kacang puteh

In its own special way, each specialty cocktail at Exit Stage Left is a homage to our nation’s storied past. Some even reference plotlines from New World’s End, such as The Songbird ($24) which features a blend of dark, bold, and bittersweet flavours.

exit stage left - songbird
The Songbird features dark rum from local distillery Compendium Spirits.

As a bonus, locally distilled spirits are incorporated into all their drinks. So while these drinks aren’t exactly from the 60s, every sip includes flavours brewed on our soil. Here, you can try G&Ts made with Tanglin Gin, or pineapple-infused vodka from Singapore Distillery.

exit stage left - mocktails

Even if you don’t drink, Exit Stage Left also offers 2 mocktails inspired by, and named after, Wang Sa and Ye Fong – a local comedic duo from our past. As for snacks, you can enjoy Kachang Puteh for $4/cone. If all that walking during the audio tour has made you hungry, you can pay $6 for a free flow of these assorted nuts all night.

If you’re into art experiences and booze, then you should add Exit Stage Left to your list. Whether you’re on the lookout for a new spot for Old Fashioneds, or need a new date idea for the year, it’ll be a great night out.

Drynk at Jalan Klapa

Picture this: you’ve bottoms-upped your last drink with friends and now there’s a growl in your tummy. Usually, you’d make a beeline for the 24-hour McDonald’s, but fries and a burger aren’t going to cut it. You need something hot, soupy, and full of MSG, so it’s straight to 7-Eleven for instant noodles.

Now imagine you can get both in one place – that’s Drynk for you. This new bar has everything a college student needs: alcohol + cup noodles. Keen? Then read on:

Get $10 cocktails from Mondays to Thursdays

As if you need a reason to drink on a weeknight. But if anyone asks, it’s because cocktails are $10 each from Mondays to Thursdays at Drynk. You’ll want to pick your poison first, as each day has a different alcohol-based drink in the spotlight.

It’s martini night on Mondays, so come down if you want to chase the blues away with drinks like chocolate martini and lychee martini. Then on Tuesdays, the bar pairs gin with mixers like kombucha, tonic, and soda. Come on Wednesdays if you like whiskey drinks like highballs and old fashioneds, while Thursdays highlight tequila in classics like margaritas and palomas.

If you’re taking it slow for the week, you can also get kombucha ($11) and non-alcoholic drinks like coke, lemonade, and kiwi soda from $6.

Soak up alcohol with cup noodles

When the alcohol is this affordable, you know a hangover the next day is almost inevitable. Thankfully, Drynk has just the carb-heavy thing to mitigate any next-day headaches and nausea – cup noodles.

Yup, with every alcoholic bevvie you order, you’ll get your choice of cup noodles at just $2. They’ve got all the popular flavours like chilli crab, seafood, and tom yum available. If you want an extra cup, it’ll be $4.90 each. Right now, that’s all they’re serving, but there’s talk they’ll be serving nuggets and seaweed chicken in the near future too.

Find your new hangout spot at Drynk

When the company of friends and a good drink are all you’re after, a cosy spot like Drynk does the trick.

There’s also an old-school arcade game machine for you to button mash your frustrations away, or settle bets with friends – perhaps the loser could foot the bill. Whichever way you play, we see Drynk becoming your next go-to drinking hole soon.
