The Bus Collective in Changi Village

Accommodations like wildlife resorts in Bali with animal interaction at your doorstep and an underwater hotel in Maldives offer exciting experiences like no other. When it comes to unique staycation ideas in Singapore, we’ve got the MRT-themed hotel and now, we also have The Bus Collective, a refurbished SBS bus hotel in Changi Village.

All you need to know about at The Bus Collective

If you have an appreciation for kitschy aesthetics, then an overnight stay at The Bus Collective should rank high on your hit list.

The Bus Collective - bathrooms
Private bathrooms with rain shower.

The compound houses 20 former SBS buses that have been transformed into cosy modern eco-friendly rooms fitted with amenities like beds, couches, TVs, and even a private toilet.

Plus some of the rooms come with bathtubs, a fully stocked minibar, complimentary toiletries, and plenty of time to capture cute content for your feed.

Depending on how many people are booked for the staycation, there are 7 types of rooms to choose from.

Couples can opt for the Queen Victoria room, which features a spacious round queen-sized bed and a bathtub right in front of the bed, for an unforgettable staycation.

In case you missed it, yes, we said round bed.

For 3 people, their King George and Duxton Twin rooms would be perfect, while bigger groups of 4 can go for the Adams Drive, Clarke Quay, Hamilton Place, and Pioneer North rooms.

The sleeping arrangement for each room is different, but we suggest families get the Pioneer North room, as it has bunk beds for the kiddos on top of the King-sized bed.

The Bus Collective - sofa bed

On the other hand, the King George room is good for smaller families as it comes with a king bed and sofa bed.

There’s even a room for wheelchair-bound individuals that has railings for extra support, a handicap-friendly bathroom, and an additional sofa bed for caretakers.

All the buses have an outdoor patio with a BBQ pit where the whole family can grill up a feast.

And of course, staying inside a bus means you’ll get to sit inside the driver’s seat and pretend you’re bringing the bus out for a spin. This makes for a perfect spot to capture IG-worthy pics or even trick your family and friends into believing that you drove a bus.

You can book a basic stay at The Bus Collective from $280/night and get breakfast for an additional $20 or top up $75 for both breakfast and a BBQ set.

Like most hotels, you can check in from 2pm onwards at the 24/7 reception area where you will get key cards to your assigned bus. On the day of checkout, return your keycards to the reception by 11am.

At the reception area, guests get to enjoy complimentary coffee and tea at any time of the day too.

Once you get your keycards, you are all set for this one-of-a-kind hotel experience.

What to eat during your stay at The Bus Collective

Within the vicinity, you’ll find BUSKing BBQ to feast on a delicious array of barbecued  treats

Those who would rather DIY their meal can order BBQ sets to grill on the personal BBQ pit just outside your bus hotel room. Time to relive those chalet memories.

BBQ sets for different-sized groups, starting with the 2-pax set, cost $70. It comes with all the cooking equipment you’ll need including sauces, charcoal, and utensils along with food like sambal prawns, chicken chops, and sambal sotong.

For larger groups, there’s the option of a 5-pax set ($160) and a 10-pax set ($250). Those who need the Halal option can simply choose their a la carte items like chicken wings ($6), sambal fish ($3), and lobster balls ($6).

Another food option just a 5-minute walk away is Changi Village Hawker Centre, for affordable and delicious local dishes. There are endless rows of food stalls here so there’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy.

Some amazing eats at Changi Village Hawker Centre include Kampong Lor Mee, Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak, and Weng Kee Original Taste Ipoh Hor Fun.

If you want to try out more food from different locations in Singapore, there’s the Let’s Go Makan tour available for $125/pax. This tour will bring you to 5 different spots around the island for their iconic dishes like Jalan Kayu Roti Prata and Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre’s Chwee Kueh and Carrot Sticks.

Activities to enjoy around The Bus Collective

Explore the far east of Singapore on a bicycle

Within The Bus Collective, there’s a selection of bikes from GoCycling where you can rent bikes for just $8/hour.

With the bike, you can explore the nearby Changi Beach Park and Changi Bay Point, or even head to Pulau Ubin which is just a stone’s throw away.

From 7am to 7pm daily, simply hop on a 15-minute ferry ride for $4 that will take you from Changi Point Ferry Terminal to Pulau Ubin Jetty. To bring your bike along on the ferry, you’ll have to top up an additional $2. Or you can rent a bike on the island too.

Image adapted from: The Smart Local

Once you are at this rustic island, we suggest exploring the island on 2 wheels or taking a hike. With your bike, you can follow the cycling path that will bring you around the island to see various popular sights on the island like Pekan Quarry, Puaka Hill, and Chek Jawa wetlands.

Another option is to sign up for the Explore Pulau Ubin on Bicycle tour by The Bus Collective for $99/pax.

You can explore the museum yourself or opt for a free guided tour. There are 9 exhibitions here which will transport you back in time and learn about the fall and rise of Singapore in sequence.

You’ll even get to see pieces of history with artefacts like diaries of civilians, prisoner of war tags, and old prison doors.

Changi Boardwalk

At Changi Boardwalk, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the 2.2 km coastal boardwalk, offering views of lush greenery, the sea, and scenic spots along Changi’s waterfront. The boardwalk is divided into sections, including the Sunset Walk, Cliff Walk, and Kelong Walk, each offering unique views and environments.

The Sunset Walk is a popular option for evening visits with its gorgeous sunset views over the waters. It’s right next to Kelong Walk, an area that mimics the structures of traditional kelongs – stilted fishing platforms that bring visitors closer to the water to catch sight of marine life.

The boardwalk is home to various coastal plants, trees, and wildlife so you might catch glimpses of birds, butterflies, and even otters if you’re lucky.

The Bus Collective has 2 tours that cover this area. The Changi Coastal Adventure Walk tour (from $64/pax) and the Sweat for Some Amazing Fun to Singapore Heartland tour ($125/pax).

While the Changi Coastal Adventure Walk tour is more focused on history and nature, the Sweat for Some Amazing Fun to Singapore Heartland tour has more common attractions like Changi Jurassic Mile and Jewel Changi.

Quincy House Singapore by Far East Hospitality

Whether you’re a tourist on holiday or a globetrotting businessperson, one of the biggest hurdles of every overseas expedition is deciding where you’re calling home for the duration of your trip. While hotels remain the go-to choice for most travellers, those wanting something a little more homely for extended stays without forgoing essential amenities have a great option in serviced apartments.

Should you be searching for your next home away from home for an upcoming trip, look no further than Quincy House Singapore by Far East Hospitality. It’s a new serviced residence located in the heart of Holland Village, and boy are their accommodations pleasantly stylish. Here’s what a stay at their apartments looks like:

Well-appointed rooms for solo travellers, couples, & bigger groups

Quincy House Singapore lobby
By the way, Quincy House also has pet-friendly room options, so feel free to stroll through their front doors with your furry companions by your side.

Once you’ve made your way into their premises, you’ll get a slice of Quincy House’s signature “anticipatory service” straight from the get-go. As they pride themselves on meeting your needs before you’ve even raised them, visitors get to indulge in a selection of juices at the reception counter; just the thing to combat Singapore’s sweltering heat.

Juices & The Living Room

These come in 3 quirky flavours to reflect Quincy House’s core personalities, namely Chill, Style, and Wow!. As such, indulge in juice flavours like Honey Yuzu, Açai, and Watermelon & Lime.

Drink in hand, make your way over to The Living Room, which doubles as either a snug reading nook or conducive work station. Sink into any one of their leather chairs as you enjoy a good read here. If you’ve got business to tend to instead, a communal workspace is sat right opposite you, in the form of a long, co-working table.

Of course, work can wait; Quincy House has 255 fully-furnished apartments, all ready to check into. Do note that there’s a minimum length of stay of 6 nights at any of Quincy House Singapore’s rooms.

Deluxe Room

For starters, those travelling solo and couples alike can opt for their Deluxe Room. It houses an inviting queen-sized bed, which you can plop yourself onto as you kick back and catch up on your favourite shows on a 43-inch LED TV.

The room’s thoughtfully designed space manages to incorporate an ironing board, microwave oven, and a mini-fridge into your living quarters, so you’ve got everything you need for a cosy stay.

Two-Bedroom Deluxe

On the other hand, visitors looking for a place to relax with their whole family to boot can go for their Two-Bedroom Deluxe instead. It promises a spacious 721sqft of luxurious living, plus a master bedroom and an en-suite bathroom.

Kitchenette

Speaking of which, the bathroom here even sports a Japanese-style bidet, and comes stocked with Kevin Murphy bath amenities. When you’d like to whip up a lil’ something for yourself, there’s a kitchenette at your disposal to cook up a storm.

One-Bedroom Deluxe

Guests can also consider Quincy House’s One-Bedroom Deluxe, which is perfect if you don’t need the extra space, but would still like some room to stretch. It also sports the aforementioned kitchenette, along with a charming dining area for sharing heartwarming meals with a partner.

Welcome gift

To make your stay extra homely, the folks over at Quincy House have put together a welcome gift for all visitors too. Inside, you’ll find a pair of foldable Quincy shades, a mesh bag, and a collapsible water bottle, all of which are yours to bring home as mementos of your stay.

Convenient amenities like a swimming pool, gym, & laundry room

Quincy House Singapore Rooftop pool

Of course, one of the main reasons why you’d fancy a stay at any serviced apartment is access to its convenient amenities, and you’ll find that Quincy House is no different. When the sun’s out, head up to the rooftop pool for some much-needed vitamin D and soak in panoramic views of the Holland Village neighbourhood from above.

Paris Baguette at One Holland Village

When you’re up here, look a little to your right, and you’d realise that One Holland Village isn’t too far away; that’s right, an entire shopping mall is right next door. Quincy House is even connected to the mall via a sheltered walkway, so a host of food options and an all-encompassing CS Fresh supermarket is just a short stroll away from your temporary abode.

UBX TrainingImage credit: UBX Training

For those with some free time on their hands, you can refer to the handy Quincy Qurate Neighbourhood Guide for a list of the best sites to visit in the vicinity. It’s sorted into different spots based on your fancies; mellow café aficionados can hit up places like Cake Bar, while the more active can try their hand at Muay Thai classes at UBX Training.

2amdessertbar
You’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary cocktail at 2am:dessertbar with every dessert when you dine-in by presenting your Quincy key card.

You can also choose to top up $200+ for an Adventure Day kit by the Quincy Qurators to bring on your adventure around the Little Red Dot. It consists of an Instax camera with 10 reels of film to capture your memories. It also comes with a card holder and a QR code which links to an e-guide of IG-worthy spots in Singapore.

Quincy House Singapore Gym
Quincy House’s gym is stocked with equipment and machines you’d find at commercial gyms, such as a free weights section.

You might be far away from home, but it doesn’t mean you have to take unwanted breaks away from the iron temple. Thankfully, Quincy House agrees, as it has an expansive gym within its grounds. It’s by no means pint-sized – it has all the equipment you need to sculpt a Grecian bod, from power racks and dumbbells to state-of-the-art treadmills.

Weekday Grab & Go breakfast - Quincy House Singapore

All stays at Quincy House come with Weekday Grab & Go breakfast from Mondays to Fridays, so you needn’t leave its premises for your first meal of the day. Should you find your belly rumbling throughout any part of the day, you can make a stop at the 24/7 Munchies Bar. It’s perpetually stocked with snacks to cure any hunger pangs, even in the dead of night.

The Laundry Room - Quincy House Singapore

Last but not least, you can swing by The Laundry Room to sort out your laundry sitch, especially if you’re planning for longer stays at Quincy House.

While the bigger apartments have washers and dryers within them, Deluxe Room guests can head to this common area to do their laundry. It’s free to use, and they’ve even spruced up the place with some bar chairs so you can grab a seat as the washing machines go whirl.

Book a stay at Quincy House in Holland Village

When it comes to serviced apartments, you’ll find that Quincy House’s offerings are pretty hard to beat. They’ve got thoughtful amenities at your fingertips, sweet deals at neighbouring joints, and most important of all, comfy accommodation that makes you feel right at home.

How to get to your hotels in Sentosa?

Getting to your hotels in Sentosa is easy. Should you be driving yourself to your hotels, do note that you will have to pay for a Sentosa Island entry fee which starts from $2, based on what time you enter the island.

Sentosa ExpressImage credit: Sentosa

If you’re opting for public transport, taking the Sentosa Express monorail is your best option. You can board the monorail at VivoCity level 3, and rides will cost you $4. Do note that the Sentosa Express monorail is not open 24/7; the first train departs at 7am, while the last train departs at 12am.

You can also take a direct bus to enter Sentosa, bus no. 123. You can board it from Bukit Merah bus interchange, and it’ll make stops at Resort World Sentosa, Village Hotel, and Sentosa Express’ Beach Station. Another bus you can take is the RWS8 bus, which you can board from bus stops at VivoCity, and it’ll bring you to Resorts World Sentosa.

Sentosa shuttle bus

Also you might want to call your hotels to check if they have a shuttle bus service which can ferry you to their doorsteps. For instance, guests staying at The Outpost Hotel Sentosa can board a complimentary shuttle bus from locations like VivoCity and Resorts World Sentosa for a fuss-free ride to their hotel.

However, if you’re looking to return to your hotel after hours, your best bet is to call a private hire vehicle to bring you to your hotel. This is because the Sentosa Express monorail, as well as public buses and even hotel shuttle buses do not operate till late.

If you’d like to save on the Gateway fee or Sentosa Express monorail tickets, you can walk in and out of Sentosa via the Sentosa Boardwalk. It’s a relatively leisurely route complete with shelter and travelators, taking you to the nearby VivoCity in 15 minutes or less.

1. Citadines Science Park

Studio lofts from $240/night

The Science Park would seem like the last place anyone would go to for a staycation. After all, it’s a tech hub nearer MNC HQs like Grab and Razer than the best Singapore attractions around. But that doesn’t mean you should sleep on Citadines Science Park for a weekend getaway.

Otherwise, spring for a 1-bedroom apartment (from $328/night) or studio loft ($256/night). The apartment sleeps a maximum of 2, but there’s plenty of room for the gang to stop by for a birthday celebration. As for the lofts, you get a cosy nook for sleeping in, separate from the living area. Both come with a fully-equipped kitchenette if you want to whip up a meal.

Best capsule hotels in Singapore

Staycations are the new sleepovers. While we once took turns to crash our friends’ houses as kids under parental supervision, we’re all grown up now, and have slightly more atas squad parties in hotels.

But along with these chill sessions with juicy stories and lots of laughter, comes an empty wallet. It’s just not feasible to keep splashing cash on pricey hotel rooms, and while chalets are cheaper, they’re usually located in hard-to-reach corners of the country.

Fret not – hostels are “in” now, and we’ve found capsule hotels in Singapore that are perfect for that weekend sleepover with your squad, minus the hefty price tag.

1. Cube Boutique Capsule Hostel

[Closed] COO Boutique Hostel

Illuminated with snazzy neon lights, the obscure COO Boutique Hostel is definitely one for the ‘gram. But it’s way more than just a pretty sight.

Built around the social needs of a traveller, the capsule hotel welcomes its guests with a bistro bar and encourages bonding over food and drink. Hone your accuracy at the dart machine, or compete with some new friends over a friendly match.

To get the best bang for your buck, grab your drinks there take note of their happy hour which is 5pm-9pm on Tuesday to Saturday.

Their menu offers bar bites such as the COO Chicken Winglets ($9) and Roasted Pork Belly ($12). We recommend their Pulled Pork Burger ($21), with tender braised BBQ pork, served with pickled kyuri cucumber, yuzu cabbage slaw and a side of thick cut fries.

Complimentary buffet breakfast is also served from 7am-9.30am, so set your alarm to avoid missing it.

Burn off the food coma with the hostel’s free bicycle rental service, before heading back to your room where a comfy duvet awaits. Unlike the typical whitewashed hostel dorms, rooms here are decorated in muted hues of grey and purple – bringing a calming vibe that’ll help you sleep better.

[Closed] Central 65 Hostel & Cafe

A hostel with a rooftop jacuzzi and gym facilities for just $24 a night sounds too good to be true, but you’d better believe it because that’s exactly what Central 65 Hostel & Cafe is. Located in Farrer Park, this is a hidden gem that even most locals don’t know about.

Their pool is equipped with massage jets, so soak yourself in some much needed hydrotherapy after a long work week. When you’re done with your dip, chill out by the outdoor seats, with a view of lights dotting the town.

Rooms don’t fail expectations either – each capsule comes with reading lights, power sockets, a personal locker and an anti-bedbug mattress.

You’ll be delighted to know that the capsule hotel has a cafe that serves free fruits, along with favourites like fish and chips, pizza, and pasta. You can choose to enjoy your meal indoors in air-con, or dine alfresco anytime from 11am-11pm.

Cheap hostels & capsule hotels in Singapore

There’s no need to scrimp and save for that one hotel room when there are loads of affordable but comfortable capsule hotels to choose from. And the best part – no one will have to sleep on the couch, or deal with their friends stealing their part of the blanket in the middle of the night.

If you’re a traveller visiting Singapore soon, consider booking one of these capsule hotels as your base camp. From simple options with the bare minimum to fancier ones, there’s something to suit every sort of tourist.

Hotels in Singapore with F1 views

Race car fanatics will know that it’s soon going to be that time of the year when we hear the sweet sounds of the roaring race car engines, and thunderous cheers from the audience stands. Returning back to Singapore from 20th-22nd September 2024 is the much anticipated F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

And for those going all out with an F1 weekend staycay, you’ll want to know which hotels have the best views of the track so you can catch all the action. So before you race off to book your tickets, here are the best hotels in Singapore with F1 views to consider for your grand weekend away.

All you need to know about Singapore Grand Prix 2024

The first Singapore Grand Prix was held back in 2008 – yes, it’s been 16 years since our Little Red Dot played host to the night race.

Just before coming to Singapore, the F1 drivers will be seen racing in Azerbaijan the weekend prior. Same as every year, all the Singapore Grand Prix action will be taking place around the Marina Bay Street Circuit which covers areas around the Singapore Flyer, MBS, Esplanade, and Padang.

Even if you haven’t caught Netflix’s Drive to Survive, we’re sure you’ll be familiar with names like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso who are representing Mercedes-AMG and Aston Martin respectively. Look forward to seeing them and their iconic fast cars speed through our city streets on the weekend of 20th-22nd September 2024.

The 3-day affair starts with practice rounds on Friday, qualifiers on Saturday, and the finale on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased for individual days (from $128) as well as packages (from $358) for the entire weekend.

Do note that at this point, most of the tickets including walkabout ones are sold out. So, your next best bet to catch the race is by camping at one of the nearby rooftop bars or booking a hotel in Singapore with F1 views.

With a red and white flag and a National Day Guide in hand, it’s time to start strategising on where to get the best views of the National Day Parade Fireworks. If you weren’t able to snag NDP tickets, some of the most popular places to perch would be Marina Barrage, Esplanade Gardens in front of Victoria Concert Hall Theatre, National Gallery’s rooftop and of course, Marina Bay.

To avoid being smushed and your IG pics being photobombed by stray hands and phones on the actual day itself, you can catch the fireworks during the rehearsal runs on the following dates:

  • NE shows: 6th, 13th & 20th July
  • Previews: 27th July & 3rd August

If you want to get into specifics, fireworks are set off 4 times during the entire parade, with the first starting around 7.30pm. You’ll also spot fireworks at the 7.50pm and 8pm mark, give or take a couple of minutes. The major explosive show begins right after the singing of the National Anthem, at about 8.10pm, and is said to last 10 minutes or so.

Even better, do it in the comfort of a hotel. Remember to let your hotel know when booking that you’d like a room on a higher floor, especially if it’s a distance away from the Padang. Here’s a price breakdown of hotels from where you can watch the sparkling display.

The obvious choice of room would be their Bay View Room, which, although slightly obstructed from the Padang, still allows you to see the rockets sparking and soaring. A good alternative to a room view is heading to either the hotel’s MO Bar or BAY@5, their al fresco lounge. Both have great access to the bay’s skyline and better vantage of the festivities on the other side.
