Far East Hospitality serviced apartments family packages

When I was a kid, the best part about going on holidays was the hotel stays. It wasn’t just about being in a new environment; it was also about rolling around on clean and fluffy hotel bedsheets, watching TV in bed, and spending quality time with my parents. Needless to say, now that I have a child of my own, I‘ve promised myself I’d give her those happy experiences too.

So, when I was invited to stay at Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard for Far East Hospitality’s Your Family Moments experience, I didn’t hesitate to pack my family into a cab and head to town for a getaway. Read on to find out what families can expect, especially if you’re looking for a hassle-free accommodation for extended stays.

Kid-friendly stay with toys, activities & amenities

Family in the living room of Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard
There’ll be a kids table and chairs for the young’uns to play and doodle in their own little corner.

Remember what I was saying about getting excited as a kid, at the mere concept of hotel stays?

Well, Far East Hospitality kicks it up a notch with the Your Family Moments package.

Mother putting child into cot
The baby cot that was prepared for my daughter.

Not only do they provide essential items for babies like a cot and high chair, but the Your Family Moments stay package also comes with goodies that’ll make it incredibly convenient to keep the young ones entertained.

Far East Hospitality Your Family Moments activity bag
The package comes with 2 activity bags for kids.

The experience begins from the moment you check-in. My daughter received an activity bag featuring 2 adorable mascots, Berry and Peary. Inside the bag, there were items that any kid would enjoy: a foodie-themed activity book with colour pencils, Berry and Peary stickers, and child-friendly snacks and juices.

Far East Hospitality Your Family Moments activity bag
My daughter was excited to uncover the goodies in the activity bag.

We made our way to our 2-Bedroom Superior apartment and were delighted to discover Berry and Peary plush toys there. My daughter didn’t hesitate to cuddle them as she ran around exploring the apartment. The 2 single beds in the kids’ room were also decked in themed duvet covers, and I was happy to find that there were kids hangers provided for me to neatly stow my child’s outfits.

Berry and Peary is toddler approved!

We’ve barely scraped the surface here. We soon found her attention fixated on a bright red box in the living room. Yep, she found the PlayDoh Kitchen Creations set that’s included in the stay package. It was a little hard to pry her away as she started “baking” squishy cookies for us.

Couple playing Play-Doh with child
Let your child prepare PlayDoh “meals” for you, for a change.

Later in the day, we broke out yet another goodie prepared for kids – the rainbow stacking game. These colourful pastel wooden blocks can be played as a family, but my toddler was more than happy to stack them, build random structures, and then push them over for the fun of it. I can attest that this activity can keep children entertained for at least a solid hour.

Child playing with wooden blocks
School-age kids can let their imagination run wild to build whatever they like.

Finally, we were more than equipped to whip up a hearty meal as we also had 4 sets of matching baking gear for 2 adults and 2 kids. It came with aprons, oven mitts, and even 2 sets of kid-sized baking utensils – great if you love to cook as a family.

Spacious apartments for the whole family

Now that we’ve covered all the perks, let’s get down to the details on the space and amenities. While we can’t complain much about staying in regular hotel rooms, these may not always be the most suitable option for longer stays due limited space. That’s what makes a stay at a serviced apartment all the more appealing.

Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard - Master bedroom
The master bedroom has a king-size bed, 2 wardrobes, a sideboard with a 32” LCD television, and an ensuite bathroom with a vanity table.

Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard, for instance, have options ranging from studios, to 2- and 3-Bedroom apartments. In terms of space, these apartments can easily rival the average condominium in Singapore. And the best part is, the apartments are fully furnished with convenient day-to-day amenities such as an ironing board, hair dryer, and a safe deposit box.

Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard - common bedroom
The common room has 2 single-size beds and a wardrobe.

There’s also a spacious living room with a 42” LCD television and a separate dining area that seats 4.

The kitchenette, which, although simple, is packed with everything you need for cooking up a delicious meal. Not only is it equipped with a microwave oven, refrigerator, and cooking hob and hood, but it also comes with cookware, utensils, dishware, glassware, and cutlery. You’ll also find a rice cooker and toaster neatly stowed in the cabinets.

Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard
With the built-in washer and dryer and a 1-time complimentary detergent, you have the option to pack light for your stay.

Not forgetting, you’ll enjoy the added convenience of having housekeeping and guest services available – one of the main allures of staying at a serviced residence.

Far East Hospitality’s Your Family Moments package

If you’ve travelled with kids, you’d know that accommodations play a huge part in making or breaking the experience.

Did I mention that pets are also more than welcome here?

With the Your Family Moments package, your entire family will be well taken care of – not just with a clean, comfortable, and spacious space, but also with the range of activities designed for family fun. Rest assured that you can look forward to an exciting “home away from home.”

You’ll also be glad to know that light continental breakfast is provided at Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard on weekdays from 7am-10am, except for public holidays. Take your pick from an assortment of deli meats and cheeses, pastries, breads, cereals, and yogurts.

Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard rooftop pool
Guests can also use the rooftop pool and the 24-hour gym.

I didn’t have to do much to keep my daughter entertained as she was brimming with excitement from all the toys, activities, and snacks she got to enjoy. It helped too, that Adina Serviced Apartments Singapore Orchard came with everyday conveniences and was just a 5-minute walk from Somerset MRT and a 7-minute walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT. It felt like we were easing into a ready-to-live-in home of our own.

Steak-cation at Hilton

Hilton Singapore is a 5-star hotel that we’re no strangers to. Though now 50 years old, it still stands strong against a swath of IG-worthy boutique and luxury hotels. To make things more enticing, it’s now offering us a staycay deal we can’t refuse: the Opus Steak-cation package that includes a giant steak platter and free-flow wine.

Here’s what you can expect, along with tips on how to maximise your stay:

Check out our other articles on staycations in Singapore:

Feast on wagyu beef at one of Singapore’s Top 10 Steakhouses

Opus Bar and Grill at Hilton Steak-cation

We Singaporeans are die-hard foodies, and it’s hard to say no to a deal that combines luxury and gastronomy. For the uninitiated, Opus Bar and Grill is listed by Tripadvisor as the #8 best steakhouse in Singapore. Their steaks are dry-aged in-house for 14 – 36 days in Himalayan salt-tiled dry-ageing cabinets, before being flame-grilled over charcoal and Jarrah wood to serve.

The Opus Steak-cation package ($282/night) allows you to choose from any of the steak sharing platters ideal for 2 pax, including:

  • 1.2KG Australian Whiskey-aged Rangers Valley Wagyu Tomahawk (U.P. $158++)
  • Signature 1KG Black Angus Bone-in Ribeye (U.P. $148++)
  • Wagyu and Lobster ($148++)
  • 1KG Black Angus Porterhouse ($138++)
  • Premium Butcher’s Platter ($138++) – which includes 600G Black Angus Bone-in Ribeye, 150G Wagyu Rump Cap, Braised Wagyu Beef Short Rib and Grain-fed, Marble score 4-5 Gourmet Beef Sausages.

Wagyu and Lobster platter at Opus Bar and Grill - Hilton Steak-cation
500G Australian Wagyu sirloin steak and Marine Stewardship Council-certified Boston lobster

We opted for the Wagyu and Lobster Platter, which offered the right balance between surf and turf so we wouldn’t end up feeling jelak towards the end. The steaks had a nice charred finish while juicy on the inside, bringing out the smoky flavours and caramelised notes.

While the meat on its own, is perfect, for an extra burst of flavour, your platter will be accompanied by sauces like Black Truffle and Mushroom and Garlic Herb Butter for you to dip in.

Their certified sustainably-sourced Boston lobsters are grilled on the signature open-flame grill, which achieves a smoky flavour while still retaining fresh, sweet notes. Served on the side is Opus’ homemade harissa dip to spice things up.

A night at Hilton in a basic room would normally cost $245++, and opting for the most expensive platter and wine would set you back an additional $202. This means you’re essentially saving $206 – making this package extremely worthwhile.

Wash it all down with free-flow wine

Red wine and white wine at Opus Bar and Grill

Steak and wine is a match made in heaven but if you usually give that house pour a pass to save a little dough, you won’t have to here because there’s free-flow wine (U.P. $15++) included.

Choose from red wine, white wine, a refreshing prosecco, or mix-and-match them to accompany each element of your meal. You can go all out on the booze this time without having to think about the commute home – your comfy abode is just an elevator ride away.

Escape from reality in their rooms with a view

Hilton Deluxe Room - inclusive in steak-cation package

With the food-coma-inducing dinner and free-flow wine, you’d likely not have issues toh-ing the moment you hit the bed, and Hilton’s Deluxe Room has got you covered. Apart from the comfy king bed, you can unwind with a movie on the large-screen cable TV.

For Netflix marathons, you can do a screen mirror from your phone, but this only works for Android users. While the room offers a solid base of essentials, high-tech conveniences you might find in newer hotels are not as readily available. But even so, you can easily bring your own HDMI cable to hook up your Nintendo switch for an alternative entertainment option.

Other amenities include a Nespresso machine and TWG teas which you can refill anytime. There’s also a well-lit work table with an ergonomic chair that you can use to catch up on emails if you’re looking to turn it into a workation.

While the stay allows for up to 2 adults, parents can take along two kids under 16 years old in the same room without any additional cost.

Wake up to a scenic view of the city

Pro tip: Although you’ve already had premium steak for dinner, nothing beats a good ol’ cup of instant noodles during a staycay. 7-eleven stores are just a stone’s throw away for you to get your midnight snacks. Just remember to request for cutlery at the concierge!

If you need some retail therapy, Hilton has its very own shopping gallery right next to the lobby, featuring designer brands such as Issey Miyake and Giorgio Armani. It’s also located conveniently in the heart of Orchard Road with ION Orchard and Takashimaya round the corner.

Swim away from your problems at their rooftop pool

Hilton rooftop pool
PSA to all parents, there’s a 0.6M circular wading pool for the young ‘uns to play in.

Now, no staycation is complete without a splashing good time at the pool, which is also the best place to snap some IG-worthy pictures so you can post about your atas weekend.

Sofas at Hilton rooftop pool

There’s also plenty of deck chairs available if you’re looking to work on your tan, or browse through your copy of Kinfolk in the sun. Otherwise, there are cushioned sofas in the shade for you to laze the day away while catching the sweeping views of Orchard Road.

Pro tip: After settling down in your room, head straight to the pool to book a slot. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 20 people can be allowed at the pool area per 1-hour slot.

Opening hours: 7AM – 8PM, Daily

Sweat it out at their well-equipped gyms

Gym at Hilton

Fitspos who want to have a good sweat sesh can head to the gym, which is well-equipped with treadmills, cross-trainers, weights and bench press equipment. Similar to the pool, you also have to book a slot beforehand as there’s a 10 person limit – a blessing in disguise as it’ll give you ample space to workout.

Opening hours: 5AM – 10PM

Enjoy a range of breakfast options

Unlimited breakfast at Hilton
Breakfast sets include coffee or tea along with your choice of fruit juice

There are few things in life I’d gladly wake up early for, and one of them is a complimentary hotel breakfast. At Hilton, there’s an extensive menu with Western and Asian selections (U.P. $25), including:

  • Corn flakes – All-Bran, Rice Krispies or muesli with dried fruits, served with hot or cold milk or soya bean milk
  • Pastry platter including croissant, muffin, Danish pastry or toast served with butter, preserves and honey
  • Two eggs in any style with pork bacon, chicken sausages, hash browns and baked beans
  • Fish congee with century egg and condiments or Mee Goreng served with a basket of chicken siew mai & shrimp dumplings

Pastries Platter at Hilton breakfastCroissant, muffin and danish pastries.

“Steak-cation” at Hilton – is it worth it?

We’re pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to staycation options these days. While our IG feeds are flooded with newer, aesthetic hotels, the classy Hilton holds its own with its attractive, value-for-money Steak-cation package.

On the whole, it checks off all the essentials: a fuss-free staycay, comfortable abode and a generous wagyu feast fit for foodies. This steak-cation promo ends 30th April 2021, so book your stay quickly!

Staycays are a respite from the humdrum of everyday life – you don’t have to travel so far for a much-needed break, plus you get to stay at a hotel for vacation vibes. Finally, you can roll around in clean, soft white sheets, splash around in a swimming pool and soak any lingering stress away in a bathtub.

It goes without saying that we’re spoilt for choice when choosing a place for a staycay in Singapore. But if you’re looking for something that’s perfect for shutting off and camping in, head to the new Capri by Fraser, China Square and you’ll be able to indulge in an uber-modern lifestyle surrounded by technological convenience, modern art and lots of entertainment.

Check out what this new kid on the block has to offer:

1. Stay in an energy-saving room with wireless charging

If you have an Android device, you can sync it to the TV and binge watch your favourite Netflix shows while lazing in bed.

You’ll be glad to know that you’re contributing to an eco-friendly cause when you stay here. Energy-saving is a key feature, and you’ll no longer have to insert your keycard into the power slot to activate electricity in your room. Instead, there are motion detectors to activate it.

Wireless charging

Good news if you’re the forgetful kind and didn’t think of bringing your phone chargers for a local staycay – the room is equipped with wireless chargers so you won’t have to peek into every crevice to find a plug point.

The Den at Capri by Fraser, China Square

The hotel’s very own 24/7 executive lounge The Den isn’t quite your standard sit-down-and-read-newspapers feat. It doubles up as a work and social space with private pods, common areas and plenty of entertainment to keep you occupied.

Games at The Den, Capri by Fraser, China Square

During your staycay you can have some good ol’ bonding time, sans your mobile devices, with an array of classic board games like Monopoly, Jenga and Charades to play. Pair these with the lounge’s free-flow snacks like crackers and pineapple biscuits, and you’re pretty much set for the evening.

3. Listen to music underwater and take in the CBD views

Rooftop pool at Capri by Fraser, China Square

4. Get trained by an automated workout wall

Holidays take you away from the ordinary, and if you’re a fitness junkie looking to try something new, check out the hotel gym’s interactive PRAMA workout corner. It functions like an arcade dance machine, except that it’s programmed with workouts for different fitness levels. Just key in your preferred workout to get started.

Parenthood is no easy feat, what with ensuring your family’s health and happiness levels are in check. And the best way to achieve this? With some quality homework-free time, doing activities that you and the kids can take part in together.

If you’ve already ticked off places like the Jewel’s Canopy and Kidztopia off your to-do family list, the Fun For The Whole Family package from JW Marriott Singapore South Beach is a staycay option to consider for an upcoming weekend away from home.

From learning new moves inspired by ballet to exploring unique architectural structures under this new Family by JW programme, here’s what you can expect during your stay:

Luxurious and spacious rooms for the whole family

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach room

The Premier Room boasts unobstructed views of Singapore’s skyscrapers

Parents with young ones will understand how hyper kids can be, which is why a spacious room will be much appreciated. The Deluxe Room and Premier Room can fit a king-sized bed or 2 twin single beds, and upon request, a baby crib and a JW Camper, so you’ll get uninterrupted sleep away from your kiddo.

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach toilet

Both room types come with a marble bathroom with a bathtub, which also means tired parents can finally unwind in a bubble bath while the kids get busy with kid-friendly activities – all this with room views overlooking the Singapore cityscape.

Curated hands-on activities like drawing and ballet-inspired moves to keep little ones occupied

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach fun for the whole family package

To one-up your family staycation from usual hotel stays, the Fun For The Whole Family package is specially catered to kids, with the main goal of keeping them well-entertained throughout their stay with activities the whole family can join in with.

Kids can look forward to a welcome pack upon checking in, which include materials for activities in and around the hotel such an Exploration Map, and even a complimentary JW t-shirt so they can look their best for the stay!

Get creative with the stickers and stick-on tattoos from the Activity Guide booklet

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach fun for the whole family package

Quirky tattoos that you can add as a family

Part of the materials received as part of the Adventures in Architecture Activity Book consists of stickers, stick-on tattoo sheets and fill-in-the-blank quizzes and challenges to keep children busy.

Within this booklet, there are also empty spaces for kids to unleash their inner Picasso and doodle architectural structures from their imagination. For inspiration, there are pages within the book that reference structures like the Guggenheim Museum and various spots around JW Marriott Singapore South Beach itself.

Kids can also roleplay as inspectors by joining in the hunt for JW’s pictorial mascots, Billy and Allie, who are cleverly hidden within the pages. Other things they’ve got to look out for: an octopus, a flamingo and a turtle in the crowd.

Stretch and learn ballet-inspired moves while being surrounded by the city skyline

family dance

Keeping an active lifestyle shouldn’t be overlooked too. And families can take advantage of the Get Up and Wind Down Turndown Cards to self-learn learn some new moves inspired by ballet together at the poolside or at the rooftop garden.

Created by professional dancers from The Joffrey Ballet, these cards provide instructions on movements like the Pike Stretch, Saute (jump) and the Butterfly Stretch. They might sound intimidating, but they’re easy enough for kids from as young as 4 years old to execute.

family stretching

We recommend enjoying this activity at Flow 18, an outdoor deck with views of Singapore’s stunning skyline. For the best backdrop to your family stretching, head up during sunrise or sunset for a truly memorable and mentally rejuvenating experience together.

International breakfast buffet spread and optional DIY pizza

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach buffet

No stay is complete without feasting like royalty! Start the day right with a luxurious buffet spread at Beach Road Kitchen, which offers various cuisines from Japanese to Indian to Western. You’ll also find local delights like dim sumotah and nasi goreng.

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach diy pizza

And weekend stays are extra special. Opt in for the Sunday Brunch buffet ($118++ per adult / $59++ per child) where children can get creative by creating their very own pizza from scratch, right from rolling the dough to choosing their toppings.

There are also 3 live stations with an on-site chef that’ll prepare your dishes just the way you like them.

noodle soup bar live station

At the Noodle Soup Bar live station, take as much of your favourite ingredients and pass your bowl over to the chef, and decide between a chicken or fish-based broth.

waffle iron live station

For something sweet, you’ll find The Waffle Iron live station, where you’ll have warm toasty waffles and pancakes made on the spot for you. Top it off with a selection of over 10 condiment types and sauces.

Interact with art displays around the hotel

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach art displays

Spot the many art and installations around the hotel space itself, making it almost seem like a museum of its own.

The video wall by the entrance was an eye-catcher. It featured a huge floor-to-ceiling screen that glowed with rainbow-coloured waves that constantly swept across the screen. We couldn’t leave without capturing a stunning photo with this hypnotising backdrop.

The lifts will also change colours when you’re inside, which was a nice touch that made for a perfect Boomerang moment on the way up to the room.

Stay fit with family-friendly facilities like the infinity pool and 24-hour gym

Make full use of your hotel stay by dropping by the kid-friendly infinity pool. Located under shelter, you can still get some laps in even if it’s pouring outside.

While the kids take a dip, parents can lounge at the nearby dining area on the pool itself, so you can keep a watchful eye over your little ones’ safety.

Spa by JW

There’s also a Spa by JW and a 24-hour gym too, if you’re planning to squeeze in some serious pampering time or work up a sweat.

Central location near MRT stations and shopping centres and museums

Once you’ve explored all the hotel has to offer and intend to head outdoors, JW Marriott Singapore’s central location also makes getting out and about extra convenient. The hotel is right outside Esplanade MRT station and is also a stone’s throw away from mega malls like Suntec City and Raffles City.

There’s no better feeling than being able to walk back to your abode for the night!

Tokidoki hotel SIngapore

The hype for all things character-related is unwavering, as Singaporeans continue going starry-eyed over character cafes, snapping up cartoon Ez-Link charms, and lining up at ungodly hours for Happy Meal merch. We’re talking about grown adults here – guess there’s just something about themed stuff that brings out everyone’s inner child.

There are already numerous Hello Kitty hotel rooms all over Asia, so we’re pretty surprised that Singapore hasn’t followed suit with its own series of character-themed accommodation…Until now, that is.

Unbeknownst to our staycay-lovin’ masses, the first Tokidoki-themed hotel in Asia has been quietly operating in Singapore since October last year. You’ve got about 2 weeks left to enjoy their vibrant rooms, as they’re part of a pop-up at The Quay Hotel Singapore that will be running till 30th June 2019.

P.S: Check out our article on new hotels in 2019 here.

About The Quay Hotel Singapore

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

The Quay Hotel Singapore is a modest 6-storey building located in a row of shophouses in the Boat Quay area. It doesn’t have a gym or a pool, but the central location means you’re right in the thick of all the good food and bars – so you might as well throw that fitness regime aside and indulge.

– Tokidoki-themed rooms –

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeThe corridor leading to the rooms are also themed, with large Tokidoki paintings hanging from the walls

There are a total of 3 Tokidoki-themed rooms, all located on the top storey of the hotel. A open-air rooftop event space also lies on the same floor.

Staycation idea for larger groups: Book up the entire level and have it serve as your private party pad!

Pastel Dreamland

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

Those who squeal in excitement over all things pink would go nuts for Pastel Dreamland (from $200/night). Its walls are a candy-coloured invasion of Donutella, the donut character, and her equally colourful friends. OwO.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

It goes without saying that anyone who books themselves a stay in one of these rooms is mainly down for the aesthetic appeal of it all (i.e., photo-taking opportunities), so if you’re gonna do it for the cam, make sure you do it right! Since the walls are already a flurry of intense hues and patterns, it would help to wear solid basics so you don’t blend into the backdrop.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeA little nook behind the door where you can hang your clothes

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

This particular room is the smallest of the lot, and while it doesn’t have a full-fledged wardrobe, there are pockets of space for you to chuck your bags, as well as multiple drawers for your clothes.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeEach of the 3 rooms comes with a mini-bar with tea and a little packet of themed cookies

Mermicorno

Taking you into the depths of the marine realm is the Mermicorno (from $190/night) room, which is peppered all over with the eponymous character.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeImage credit: Expedia

Quick backstory: Mermicornos are basically Unicornos that followed a falling star into a magical sea, and got transformed by the sparkly waters into their current half-unicorn, half-fish state.

24k

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

Now this one’s a little different. Instead of saccharine rainbow shades, the 24k (from $210/night) room comes in a muted palette of black, white, and gold with a bit of punk-rock edge.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

Mermicornos found here are laden with spikes and skull tattoos, accompanying slightly more sinister characters like Adios and Ciao Ciao – a pair of grim reaper-like creatures that got banished from hell because they were too good-natured to live in the infernal regions.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeCuddly plushies add a pop of colour to this otherwise monochromatic room

It’s not all doom and gloom though, because the illustrations are still way more adorable than spooky. None of the characters are meant to be evil, so don’t worry about them haunting you in your slumber.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeYou can’t bring the plushies home, but these drink floats that come with the complimentary bottled water are yours to keep

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

All rooms – themed or otherwise – come with a free-to-use smartphone with unlimited local and international calls, internet access, as well as promotions for shopping and local attractions.

– Tokidoki rooftop space –

Rooftop event space The Quay Hotel

Hosting a birthday party or baby shower? Go all out and book the rooftop event space (from $200), which comes with a predominantly pink “sweet shop” theme.

Rooftop event space The Quay HotelChilling on a shaded garden swing

There’s a tent with tall tables and bar stools if you wish to hide away from the sun, and come night, it’ll be illuminated by twinkling fairy lights. Go on and open a mini makeshift bar there with your own bottles of alcohol – rosé would fit the pink settling perfectly!

Colourful standees and a life-sized character figure amp up the overall cute factor of the place.

Rooftop event space The Quay Hotel

Tokidoki-themed rooms at The Quay Hotel Singapore

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel Singapore

I’m the kind of girl who is big on all things kawaii and multi-coloured, and these rooms were certainly right up my alley – the psychedelic Harajuku-esque designs by Simone Legno have certainly brought a fresh twist to our boutique hotel scene, which is now dominated by sleek simplistic or industrial designs. Those are of course appealing in their own way, but have since gotten rather commonplace.

Tokidoki The Quay Hotel SingaporeBe sure to check out the merchandise shelf at the lobby for souvenirs you can purchase

The only bummer is the fact that these rooms will be shedding their colorful cloaks and turning back to their pre-fairy godmother state after June 30th. One can only hope that The Quay Hotel will come up with a cool new pop-up like this again in the future – or even consider a permanent themed floor.

It’s only when you join the ranks of parenthood, that you realise just how much mental planning is required for a holiday with kids. Everyone wants quality family fun but nobody wants to be that parent with a screaming baby on a 5-hour flight.

That’s why staycations are a total lifesaver. A short but sweet break from the mundanities of everyday life without having to actually disrupt the routine that you’ve worked so hard to put in place.

Whether you’re a working parent desperate to clock in more hours with your kiddos or just looking to reward yo’ kids for their good behaviour, here’s why you should keep the newly refurbished Orchard Rendezvous Hotel along Orchard Road on your radar:

Affordable family rooms with in-room games, bunk beds, and kid-friendly amenities

Yes, parents sacrifice a lot for their kids. But the comfort of a nice big bed during your staycay shouldn’t be one of them. You’ll be glad to know you won’t have to settle for any smaller-than-single spare beds at Orchard Rendezvous Hotel. Their spacious family rooms are configured to comfortably accommodate your tribe, no matter how big.

Family Room with Sofa Bed

Measuring a modest 40 sqm, the Family Room with Sofa Bed (40sqm) is perfect for small families of 3. Especially great for families with toddlers who hate being confined to a small space, we love how the sofa bed pulls double duty by acting as a separate mini bed for toddlers and removes the need for an in-room crib.

You won’t even have to worry about falls because the low-lying design means your little one can climb up or down with little effort.

Small touches like the stuffed animals and colourful blankets add a nice warmth to the room

Family Room with Bunk Bed

If your family runs a little larger, then opt for the Family Room with Bunk Bed (50sqm). Co-sleeping is wonderful, but when your kids start taking up as much space as you do, it’s time to unlock the next milestone of independence – having them sleep on their own.

An expansive segregated living and dining area also makes in-room feasting and lounging a hundred times more appealing

The room comes with a King-sized bed and a sturdy bunk bed for the younglings. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, from stuffed animal plushies to in-room board games, a whole slew of surprises lie in wait.

Choose from a list of in-room games to rent for the duration of your stay from Twister to UNO STACKO. You can even rent a gaming console for free for the duration of your stay – just be sure to reserve it in advance.

The in-room TV comes connected to the internet so you can stream movies and binge watch your favourite YouTube videos

Bath-wise, all family rooms come equipped with a spacious standing shower area, a tub and a special set of toiletries just for your little ones.

You’ll also find some kid-sized in-room slippers, plastic cutlery, and complimentary MILO sachets in their mini-bar replenished on the daily.

Family Suite

And if your children have outgrown bunk beds, you can choose to swop them for two single beds when you pick the Family Suite (60sqm) option.

And because we all know how easily kids tire of games and toys, you’ll also find a stack of children’s magazines and a kids’ activity pack in your room that’s full of colouring and DIY activities.

*BONUS* Floats and beach balls available by the pool

If you’ve got sunny days lounging by the pool on your staycay agenda, then you’ll love to know that Orchard Rendezvous Hotel has a stash of pool noodle floats and beach balls available for all guests!

Parched parents can also cool down at their pool-side bar which serves up drinks and light bites

Right in the heart of Orchard Road

Booking a child-friendly hotel often presents us with a tough choice – blow the bank for a night in a luxury hotel in town, or sacrifice location for more pocket-friendly prices.

The Lobby Bar

Orchard Rendezvous Hotel saves you the headache by giving you the best of both worlds. Its prime location on Tanglin Road puts you within walking distance of Orchard MRT, the Singapore Botanic Gardens and all the best that town has to offer.

To make things even better, you’re a 2-minute walk from Toys ‘R’ Us, Mothercare and a whole lot of other child-centric businesses over at Forum The Shopping Mall a.k.a Orchard’s most kid-friendly mall. And if you’re planning to venture a little further down Orchard Road, this list of nursing rooms in town will cover you in the case of a diaper blowout.

A family-friendly staycay in the heart of town

School might be back in full swing, but that doesn’t mean that your next family bonding session has to wait until the next term break kicks in.

For a limited time only, Orchard Rendezvous Hotel is running a 2D1N Family Staycation Package if you book any one of their 4 family room options. If you’re booking a room for your fam of 3, room rates start from $300++ and vary depending on your selected room type and number of guests.

The offer also includes daily complimentary breakfast and you might even be granted that 3PM late check-out if you make the request in advance*.

The book and stay period runs from 1st March – 30th June 2019, so if you’re still reminiscing the December holidays, free up a weekend, check in, and make yourselves at home. There are only 4 family rooms with bunk beds available so fastest fingers first!

Book your 2D1N staycation on offer now

*Late check-out is subject to availability

At capsule hostels, accommodation is as basic as basic goes: you get a sleeping pod with a mattress, pillow, blanket, and not much else. Interior aesthetics are usually sacrificed, with many capsule hostels often looking nondescript and simply serving as a place to lay one’s head on at the end of the day. The trade-off? Super affordable prices, usually below $50/night.

But affordability doesn’t necessarily have to come at the cost of dullness. Right here in Singapore, we have COO Boutique Hostel, a luxury capsule hostel with affordable rates from $44/night. Beds here are relatively spacious, its lobby has a bar with a dart machine, and the common areas have cool neon decor to boot.

About COO Hostel

coo hostel entrance macroImage credit: COO Hostel

From afar, COO doesn’t look much like a hostel, easily mistaken for a trendy bar or club with its lobby’s neon lighting. Go closer and you’ll find that its entrance has a geometric metal gate reminiscent of those found at old housing estates – a beautiful merging of old with new.

coo hostel close-upImage credit: COO Hostel

This is continued as you make your way indoors, where you’ll find the same metal mesh used as partitions in the lobby-cum-bistro, sectioning off the public and private areas from each other. The main lobby area is open to both walk-in bistro patrons and guests, while the private lounge is a space exclusive for hostel guests to work or chill.

There’s also a bar within the bistro, where you can crack open a few cold ones with your mates. While you’re at it, challenge your friends to a round at the electronic dart machine.

Raise your eyes to the ceiling of the bistro and you’ll find COO’s centerpiece: an abstract map of Tiong Bahru put together with neon tube lights.

Rooms at COO Hostel

Relative to conventional capsule hostels, the sleeping pods here are spacious, with enough room for you to sit up and stretch your legs amongst the fluffy pillows and duvets.

Rooms here are dorm-style with bunk beds, and come in 3 different sizes: Me+3 (4 people), Me+5 (6 people), and Me+7 (8 people). Despite your proximity to friends or other guests, privacy is not an issue as the beds are nicely partitioned from each other, with sports mesh curtains for an added layer of privacy.

That’s not all, for each bed is outfitted with a side shelf, a socket, a reading light, and even a locker. Single-gender rooms are also available for booking.

To help further organise your belongings, you’re also provided with shelves away from the beds where you can store your luggage.

Other amenities at COO Hostel

Although the bathrooms here are, like at any other hostel, communal, they’re impressively sleek – possibly rivalling some in-room bathrooms sported by actual hotels.

Shampoo and soap are provided FOC in convenient squeeze dispensers on the wall – complete with clever puns you can’t help but chuckle at.

On the second floor is an open-air terrace for guests who want some fresh air while taking in the sights of the surrounding Tiong Bahru district. The terrace also followings COO’s central theme of marrying the past with the present – the chairs here are a chic modern interpretation of Ah Gong and Ah Ma’s old rattan chairs.

The terrace also comes with a laundry room, where washers and dryers are available for use. Its walls are appropriately decorated with Singaporean motifs like samsui women and HDB bamboo poles.

If you’re staying at COO alone and are worried about having to bunk with strangers, have no fear: Their ingenious COO Connect system will link you up with other travellers who share the same interests and even pet peeves as you, making your stay a more pleasant one. Start your day on a hearty note with a complimentary buffet breakfast at COO Bistro, which includes a generous spread of croissants, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, and canapes. Juice, coffee, tea, and milk are also available.

If you don’t wish to leave the hostel for lunch and dinner, there are ala-carte dishes as well. One to try is their Tiong Bahru Platter ($28), comprising of familiar favourites like roasted pork belly and grilled chicken satay. Along with that is mackerel keropok and salt & pepper barramundi, with COO’s in-house sambal served on the side.

And as for dessert, give COO’s Tiong Bahru “Chwee Kueh” ($9) a go. Chwee Kueh is aptly enclosed in quotation marks, as the dish itself only looks like the steamed rice cakes; in reality, what you’re eating is actually panna cotta with candied walnut as “chai po”, and balsamic strawberry to presumably look like chilli.

Coo Hostel is definitely one to set within your sights if you’re looking for a cosy staycay with your friends without the hassle of travelling overseas.

And if you’re a traveller from abroad who are looking for a more authentic Singaporean heartland experience without compromising on comfort, this hostel is definitely worth checking out.

Staycation at Mercure Bugis

We know what it’s like when work just keeps piling up on our desks and we’re in desperate need for a break – but wait, you’re saving your leave for that faraway year end trip. In the meantime, unwind with a much-needed staycation at Mercure Singapore Bugis.

Maybe you’re after loft rooms with super airy ceilings or an infinity swimming pool. The Mercure Singapore Bugis has all that, along with a rooftop sky deck where you can watch the sunset from. Here are our top favourite things to do:

Relax in your airy loft

Floor-to-ceiling windows at Mercure Bugis' Executive Loft

The hotel’s Executive Loft with queen bed and sofa makes us feel like we’re in the glossy pages of an interior design magazine, especially when the space is designed with orange accents and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in an abundance of natural light. Peering out, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Kampong Glam area.

Watching TV in our Executive Loft

And remember, it’s a loft with two floors, so climb up the stairs and just hang out on the very ample-sized queen bed – like your average Sunday afternoon but with room service, pristine sheets and stellar views. No one will judge if you’re still in bed at noon, so feel free to binge-watch your favourite season of Friends.

We particularly liked the high ceilings of the second floor – no need to transform into the Hunchback of Notre Dame so you don’t hit your head here.

Nespresso machine

If the cosy interiors are making you feel sleepy, perk up with a cuppa in the comfort of your own room. There’s no need to hunt down a 24-hour Starbucks for a coffee fix, just switch on the Nespresso machine* and slot in the complimentary capsules!

*Available in Executive Loft only.

Take a dip in an infinity pool

Hanging out at Mercure Bugis' Infinity Pool

High in the sky with clear blue waters – that’s how poolside living is at the Mercure Singapore Bugis. Their infinity pool is great for doing hardcore laps or dreamily floating on your back. Otherwise, dip your legs into the pool and enjoy the tingling feeling of cool water.

Enjoying a cocktail or two

If swimming isn’t your forte, there’s a shallow pool off to the side and an outdoor jacuzzi for you to soak in. Otherwise, there’s a compact 24-hour gym for those who don’t want a break from their exercise routines.

There’s also a row of sun loungers for those who are looking for something low-key – bring a book and a pair of sunnies, and your afternoon’s good to go.

Cocktails while lounging by the pool

Enjoy views of Singapore’s skyline from the rooftop sky deck

Talking at the rooftop garden

The hotel has a rooftop garden set on the 15th floor for you to admire the sweeping views – try spotting buildings like National Library and National Design Centre. It’s also the perfect place to get a bit of sun and have a chill chat in the rattan chairs.

Sunset at the rooftop garden

The best times to visit would be at dawn and dusk, when everything is bathed in a golden light.

Tip: The best times for a chat on the rooftop sky deck will be just before the sun sets, to watch the skyline’s vivid colours change into night.

Feast on modern Cantonese dim sum at Song Garden

Enjoying dim sum at Song Garden

With two restaurants, there’s certainly no shortage of food at the hotel. Song Garden is one of the two, serving up Cantonese food dishes with a modern twist.

Dim sum spread

We tried a few of their dim sum dishes – their Truffle Abalone Tart and Pan-seared Otah Siew Mai. Unlike the usual steamed siew mai, the Otah Siew Mai was filled with a mildly spicy fish paste, before being pan-seared and served slightly crisp.

Their Steamed Cheong Fun was also a dish we quickly lapped up since it came wrapped around generous chunks of prawn.

Opening hours: Mon to Fri: 11.30AM – 2:30PM, 6PM – 10PM, Sat to Sun: 11AM – 3PM, 6PM – 10PM
Telephone: 6521 9299

Lounge around with an Afternoon Tea tiered set from BARtistry@ONE22

Enjoying afternoon tea at the lobby bar

If you’re feeling peckish after dim sum, make your way to the hotel’s lobby bar BARtistry@ONE22 for a lazy afternoon tea to whittle the day away.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a sweet tooth, their Timeless Indulgence Afternoon Tea Set ($25.90/pair) comes with a mix of sweet and savoury treats such as pandan-infused Creme Brulee and beef sliders.

Having Mercure Bugis' Timeless Indulgence Afternoon Tea

For those of you who’d like to get a bit fancy, try some freshly-baked scones with jam and clotted cream.

Mercure Bugis' lobby bar

Besides treating yourself to afternoon tea, take the chance to enjoy a glass of wine in the comfort of your hotel. The lobby bar also serves up a range of classic cocktails, wine, and beers.

Explore nearby cafes and quirky shops

Strolling through Haji Lane

You’re in luck, there’s plenty to amuse yourself with in and out of the hotel. It’s hard to part with the cool aircon of your loft room, but Haji Lane’s quirky stores and handicraft knick-knacks are just a short stroll away.

Explore the nooks and crannies of the colourful Kampong Glam area, and when you need a rest, find a cafe to sit down and watch the world go by. We suggest Brother Bird, for its mochi doughnuts that are topped with soft-serve ice cream.

On the way back to the hotel, you’ll be sure to pass by Bugis Street Market. Known for its cheap shopping – 3 watches for $10! – you can find almost anything in the 800 or so stalls.

Affordable weekend staycation at Mercure Singapore Bugis

The entrance to Mercure Bugis

To escape the strains of everyday life, treat yourself to a stay at Mercure Singapore Bugis. Whether it’s relaxing in one of their spacious loft rooms or lounging next to their infinity pool, this 4-star hotel lets you mash everything in your weekend wishlist into one affordable staycation.

Rates start from $188/night – a real steal for a staycay set in such a convenient location!

YOTEL Singapore has launched at Orchard Road

I’ve always imagined myself flying in the first-class cabin in airplanes, because there’s the hope that it’ll actually be real someday. While most of us certainly can’t enjoy these luxuries in the very present future, here’s an experience that will more than make up for it: a staycay at the newly-opened YOTEL Singapore.

YOTEL has a futuristic, Tron-like aesthetic to it, and translates the compact, smart spaces of an airplane to a hotel room, complete with the comforts you can expect if you had bought a first-class ticket. Decked in purple everywhere and teeming with airplane jargon, you’ll start to wonder if you really haven’t boarded a plane bound for your much-needed holiday.

We had a 3D2N stay here, and we can honestly say our heads were up in the clouds for most – if not all – of it.

Mission Control: Self Check-in kiosks at the lobby

yotel singapore lobby

The hotel’s futuristic glow is obvious from the moment you set foot into the lobby: white flooring printed with intricate Peranakan-inspired grey patterns, with purple carpets and seats for the furniture. It gives off a polished look reminiscent of those contemporary utopian movies where everything is pristine.

A row of self check-in kiosks

Termed ‘Mission Control’, this is where you’ll find the characteristic lounge seats and concierge for checking in and out, although over here at YOTEL, guests have the option to check-in themselves with ease using the self check-in kiosks lined up on the left.

There’s even a scanner to scan your IC or passport!

Simply key in your booking details, scan your IC/passport, and sign to confirm the check-in! The final step is to swipe your credit card to pay for your stay, and you’re done. A bunch of room key cards are stacked at each kiosk, and can be activated by tapping them against a barcode panel.

Check-in complete.

yotel singapore lobby check in

Voila – you’ve been checked in, no forms or paperwork required!

This isn’t to say that the concierge is rendered obsolete, because the ‘human touch’ is still very much needed to handle guests’ queries, luggage storage, and to deploy the robots on their various missions.

The guest service robots

yotel singapore robots

You can’t argue that they don’t look like R2-D2

This is the moment when the Star Wars fanatic in me surfaced and refused to be suppressed for the next 3 days, because YOTEL Singapore has guest service robots that look exactly like the purple versions of R2-D2. Built with storage compartments, motion sensors and talking functions, they function as room service for non-food, small-ticket items.

yotel singapore robots

Psst: The ‘girl’ robot will sing a tune after completing the delivery. Spoiler: it’s The Sound of Music’s ‘So Long, Farewell’

2 such robots – one ‘boy’ and one ‘girl’ – are on hand here, and they’re stationed at Mission Control when inactive. If you can, follow them through the hotel when they’re delivering items like towels, toiletries or water bottles right to guests’ front doors – it’s quite an entertaining sight.

The Rooms – First Class Suite

yotel singapore first class suite room

The cabin was surprisingly more spacious than I’d expected

The lobby captures the futuristic concept extremely well, and the rooms definitely don’t disappoint either. In keeping with the hotel’s concept of a first-class airline experience, the rooms are coined ‘cabins’, and designed in a compact, yet intelligent way to maximise space.

yotel singapore first class suite room

We stayed in the First Class Suite, which is the second biggest of the 7 cabins you can book. The price of the First Class Suites start from S$367++. Aside from the bathroom and SmartBed™, this suite has been designed with a desk and lounge area, enhancing the flexibility to use the space for work and play.

The sofa can be pulled out to become a bed, so this suite can easily have room for up to 3 people.

yotel singapore first class suite room

The suite is furnished with what feels like Scandinavian-design accents, which incidentally suits its colour palette. The cool-coloured wood complements YOTEL’s signature purple, and the ceiling has a panel emitting a pretty neon purple glow to drive home the futuristic effect. It looks even better at night when a light purple glow is cast over the entire cabin.

yotel singapore smart bed first class suite rooms

The absolute best part about the entire room: the bed. It’s a SmartBed™, meaning it can be adjusted to your desired height with the press of a button.

yotel singapore first class suite

I love the way the bathroom is designed, with dark wood and frosted glass doors to give a minimalist vibe

The bathroom occupies the right side of the room. The door on the left leads to the toilet, while the one on the right leads to the shower. There’s a divider that you can slide between this bathroom area and the rest of the room for privacy.

yotel singapore rooms

The bathroom also looks like something out of an interior design catalogue, with industrial-like walls and floors, and a rain shower to boot. And yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you: the shower has a floor-to-ceiling window for you to have the most unique shower experience ever. Fret not though, there are blinds that you can pull all the way down if you like.

Urban Skincare Co. caters specifically to skin exposed to urban environments

You won’t have to pack heavy when you stay here, because YOTEL provides all necessary toiletries you’ll need – from shampoo, bathing soap, and conditioner from Urban Skincare Co., to toothbrushes, toothpaste and bedroom slippers.

yotel singapore rooms

The room has a flatscreen Smart TV, and you have access to tons of channels, so there’s no shortage of entertainment. If you wanna bust out some moves, you can even connect your phone or laptop to the TV via Bluetooth and Miracast and blast your tunes.

yotel singapore first class suite with balcony view

This room also has an attached balcony with a spectacular view of Orchard Road against the backdrop of the city

Premium Queen with Bunk

The Premium Queen with Bunk cabins bear similar configurations to that of the First Class Suite, only minus a lounge area. The addition of the bunk bed atop the queen-sized bed allows for the cabin to comfortably accommodate 3 people.

yotel singapore premium queen with bunk room

This cabin really effuses the cabin concept – the room has the bathroom placed right next to the bed. The bedside table next to the bed can be pulled out to function as a desk, with a chair underneath.

If you’re wondering about stuff like a safe, luggage storage, or cupboards, don’t worry – they’re all hidden in various compartments around the room. Case in point: the ironing board is stored vertically in a cupboard opposite the bed – smart use of space indeed.

The Premium Queen with Bunk room rates start from S$175++

Premium Queen Cabin

The Premium Queen is the most common cabin type available in YOTEL Singapore. Similar to the amenities available in the First Class Suite, the cabin can accommodate 2 people and comes with the same hidden nooks you’ll find in the First Class Suite: the safe can be pulled out from within the bedside cupboard, and hidden compartments in the wall reveal useful items like the ironing board. Bedroom slippers are of course available, and this compact space makes for an ideal, fuss-free stay in the heart of the city.

Grains & Hops Restaurant and Bar

yotel singapore restaurant

YOTEL Singapore’s restaurant – Grains & Hops Restaurant and Bar located at ‘TEN’ (Level 10) is the true definition of fusion cuisine. Both their food and drinks are infused with local and/or Asian flavours, with an extensive menu of dining options.

yotel singapore breakfast spread

Breakfast is done buffet-style with a display of both Asian and Continental and/or American foods, which really makes for a delightful romp through the serving tables. They also have bowls of muesli and fruits, as well as superfood juices that change daily.

yotel singapore breakfast

The Asian breakfast table had fried rice, congee, mee goreng, and curry puffs, while the Continental side had the usual breakfast noms like toast, pastries, eggs, bacon, and sausages

The restaurant on TEN is open to both guests and non-guests; you don’t need a key card to go up to the 10th floor, which is where the restaurant is located. The breakfast buffet is also open to non-guests at S$20++ for adults.

yotel singapore restaurant food

(From top left, clockwise) Grilled Miso Salmon Fish ($20), Peach and Berries Rice Popsicle ($8), Roasted Angus Beef ($22), Deep-Fried Kurobuta Pork Loin ($20), Grilled Seafood ($22)

This is where you have the chance to feast on a few of their 9 signature rice bowls. Each bowl is ripe with nutrition, with either seafood or meat skewers placed over a bed of quinoa, multigrain, or purple sticky rice – yumz!

Grab a drink at their bar and chill! We recommend you try their Grains & Hops Brew ($7 for ½ pint, $13 for a pint) that’s infused with a tinge of local jasmine green tea – cuz you probably can’t get this mix anywhere else.

Co-working space at ‘TEN’

Another cool aspect of TEN is a multi-functional and flexible space just behind the restaurant’s dining area. Quiet and cosy, it’s a great spot for co-working or to spend the afternoon with your work or a good book.

A glasshouse of sorts, the co-working space plays on a lot of natural light to give it a simple but comfortable feel.

There are 3 separate booths for extra quiet space or if guests need to conduct any private meetings or make calls. Each room has a couch and 2-3 plush stools, as well as charging ports.

Pool and gym at ‘TEN’

The Club Lounge is dedicated to providing amenities for guests, which includes a pool and gym. The pool is actually right next to Grains & Hops, so you can take a dip or suntan on the deck chairs in the post-lunch haze.

Relax and unwind while sipping on a few cocktails at the pool

Guests who fancy a workout sesh before stuffing yourself with those tasty rice bowls: just hop on over to the gym, which is on the other end of the Club Lounge – same level as the resto.

Experience the staycay of the future

yotel singapore

YOTEL’s combination of luxury-airline-travel-on-land and technology takes a totally new spin on the word ‘modern’, and I doubt there’s another place quite like this one.

What impressed me the most was the strength of their theme; they have the futuristic concept accentuated in every aspect of the hotel, such that you’ll always feel like you’re entering a bubble of some other dimension each time you step back in.

yotel singapore

YOTEL Singapore is conveniently situated in Orchard Road, just behind Shaw Centre. But you’ll never realise just how close the hustle and bustle of civilisation is because the surroundings somehow keeps drawing you back into an episode of Star Trek-slash-Star Wars-slash-Tron.

So if you’re looking for a spark of adventure without having to fork out the cost of a first-class ticket, take a ride with YOTEL – I know I’m definitely onboard.

And as a special treat for you guys, if you book from now till 31st January 2018 using the promo code “TSL10”, you’ll get 10% off the Best Available Rates. The available stay dates for this promotion are from now until 28th February 2018.

Living the good life at Shangri-La

Shangri-La rooms

The hustle and stress of everyday life is something that gets to the most of us, and sometimes, a getaway is all we need. Hidden from the buzz of town is the gorgeous Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore – one spot that’ll surely do the trick.

From now till 30th November 2017, Shangri-La’s rooms are going at 20% off to celebrate ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary. Here’s what to expect during your stay there:

A hidden sanctuary inspired by nature

shangri la sg lobby

Think majestic pillars, breath-taking art installations and a towering 9-metre basalt rock wall. No, we’re not talking about a museum in Europe, but Shangri-La’s elegant lobby, which comes furnished with white and cream furniture to bring the whole look together.

We soon learned that the hotel’s newly renovated Tower Wing – where the lobby is situated – was inspired by these five elements: Stone, Wood, Water, Earth and Wind.

It’s not hard to see how it’s done either. From 3,000 individual pieces of metallic “leaves” that cascade from the ceiling as an interpretation of Singapore’s tropical flora, to whimsical water sculptures that adorn the area, the Shangri-La experience is one that’ll begin even before you check-in.

Indulge in authentic Singaporean fare at the Lobby Lounge

shangri la buffet

Located in the heart of the Tower Wing is the Lobby Lounge, a foodie’s haven that serves up Singapore’s all-time favourite hawker nosh. Except you won’t need to be sweating it out at an actual hawker centre!

shangri la buffet

shangri la buffet

Crafted by the chefs of Shangri-La in collaboration with various hawker partners, this restaurant offers an a la carte selection of “heritage dishes”, like Hainanese Chicken Rice and Katong Laksa. We loved their rendition of Chilli Crab and Mantou in particular, which is based off Dragon Phoenix Restaurant’s original recipe. The sauce had just the right balance of sweet and spicy, which was soaked right up by the fluffy mantous that came served alongside the dish.

Those with a slightly bigger appetite can enjoy the semi-buffet spread at Lobby Lounge too. From just $38, guests can enjoy a wide selection of local dishes such as Nonya Chicken and Braised Pork Belly, plus local desserts like Nonya kuehs, Cheng Tng and more.

Luxurious deluxe rooms with a view

shangri la deluxe room

If waking up to a view is at the top of your must-have lists, you’ll be pleased to know that rooms here come with an unparalleled panoramic view of the city.

shangri la sg deluxe hotel room

But though the view was one to beat, our favourite feature was definitely the ultra-soft cosy bed, which was accompanied with an abundance of snug pillows – perfect for a well-deserved snooze! The room was also enhanced with wooden furnishings and debonair fixtures, like a glass wardrobe and a chinoiserie vanity table.

shangri la sg rooms

shangri la sg hotel bathroom

Guests also have the choice of either a sleek work desk or a comfy sofa bed for their room, depending on whether the stay is for business or pleasure.

Escape outdoors into The Orchid

shangri la orchid garden

Launched during Shangri-La’s 45th Anniversary Celebration, The Orchid is a 7-metre tall open air greenhouse sculpture that’s designed to look like a flower bud, complete with orchid beds in the shape of petals.

shangri la orchid garden

Containing over 600 orchids of over 20 species, this was one engineering masterpiece that had us awed. Once the sun goes down, The Orchid transforms into the perfect setting for an intimate and romantic dinner – perfect for date night.

Psst, we were told that this is a popular spot for proposals too! Hint hint, guys!

The perfect getaway with Shangri-La

shangri la singapore staycay

If you’re not tempted already, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore is holding a 20% offer for stays until 31st January 2018, meaning you’ve got an extra reason to go ahead and treat yourselves.

The offer* also includes Complimentary Wi-Fi and in-room broadband access, along with the chance to earn Golden Circle Award points.

*Bookings will need to be made by 30th November 2017.

To celebrate ASEAN’s 50th anniversary, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore is offering 4 lucky winners a chance to win Singapore Airlines return tickets to an ASEAN destination of their choice! All you’ll need to do is take part in their Memory Match Quiz and you might be well on your way to a full-on vacation. Aah, the good life.
