Choa Chu Kang Mini Road Safety Park

The iPad kid epidemic might have just met its match, ‘cause there’s a new Mini Road Safety Park in Choa Chu Kang. Get some much-needed vitamin D and spend some quality time with your kiddos at this fun free playground where they’ll get to huff n’ puff, while learning about traffic rules.

Work hard, play hard at the CCK Mini Road Safety Park

CCK mini road safety park - park overview

If Fast and Furious is your fav movie franchise but the thought of your kid speed driving makes you slow and nervous, fret not, you can start ‘em young and ease them into the driving lifestyle at this fun playground.

CCK mini road safety park - zebra crossing

You’ll find a replica of the road system we’re all familiar with – roads, zebra crossings, signboards, and lane markings. Get the little ones to hop on their cycle or scooty and wear their helmets as they zoom safely through the makeshift driving circuit.

CCK mini road safety park - traffic signs

If your younger one of the siblings hasn’t learned how to ride yet, feel free to bring them along to teach them how to cross roads safely as a pedestrian. Though perhaps it’s best not to use the older sibling as the simulated oncoming driver, ‘cause chances are they’ll have ulterior motives.

There’s also plenty of seating so you can sit back and relax – or watch nervously – as you witness your kids educate themselves, while still having plenty of fun.

CCK mini road safety park - fitness corner

Before you call it a day, remember to check out the fitness corner, badminton court, and running track located nearby.

There are plenty of activities in and near the playground to check out and show your kiddos you still got it.

There’s nothing quite like playing with your family and making memories in a playground. Plus, this park will provide the perfect upper hand for driving practice later.

Consider it an investment for the future, ‘cause let’s be real, getting your driver’s license right when you turn legal is so in.

Free fitness corners in Singapore

As we dip our toes into the second week of January, hopefully you’re still hammering away at the fitness goals you set on the 1st of the month. For the fallen complaining of exorbitant gym membership fees, you’re in luck, thanks to some free-to-use, public fitness corners in Singapore that you can swing by to get them gains.

What are fitness corners in Singapore?

Fitness corners are all-weather, outdoor gym areas built by the Government to get citizens on their feet to lead a healthy lifestyle. Of course, they’re free to use by any member of the public, and they’re mostly open 24/7.

What equipment can I find at fitness corners?

Although the range of equipment varies among the fitness corners, some of the common ones you’ll be able to find are those that facilitate body weight exercises such as sit-up benches, pull-up bars, and shoulder and chest press machines.

They’re also fitted with elderly-friendly options such as stationary bikes and elliptical walkers. Some of them even come with rubber massage rollers to soothe knotted muscles, as well as wheelchair-friendly stations which can be interacted with while seated.

Where can I find fitness corners in Singapore?

You’ve probably come across one in your neighbourhood; fitness corners are peppered around parks, playgrounds, and residential areas such as HDB estates. They come equipped with elderly-friendly machines so even your grandparents don’t have to stray too far from home to hit the weights – in a safe and controlled environment, that is.

1. Taman Jurong Park

Taman Jurong Park Fitness CornerImage credit: KOMPAN

Gone are the days when meagre fitness corners could never contend with gyms because of their lacklustre equipment. Modern fitness corners like the one at Taman Jurong Park are fitted with KOMPAN-manufactured stations, a brand that specialises in outdoor fitness equipment. These use cables and weights to take your workouts to the next level.

Work those quads with some weighted squats at the magnetic bells, or try your hand at the suspension trainers; there are a ton of exercise variations you can do on these stations so have your pick. For callisthenics enthusiasts, there’s also a pull-up bar with different types of handles to play around with.

Address: Yung Ho Road, Singapore 610153

2. Sports@Buona Vista

For folks in the Commonwealth-Buona Vista vicinity, head to Sports@Buona Vista to conduct your daily fitness routine. It’s a huge open-air hub that aims to promote the lifelong benefits of staying active to nearby residents, and has even been endorsed by national triathlete Willie Loo.

Alongside its updated run of KOMPAN workout stations, there are also machines like elliptical trainers and stationary bikes that take it easy on the weary joints of senior folks. Should you want to clock in some cardio, you’ll be able to run 200m laps on the running track which encircles the place.

Address: 115A Commonwealth Drive, Singapore 149596

3. Vista Park

Vista Park Playground

If you’d like to be as energy efficient as possible during your exercise, then consider dropping by Vista Park. It’s known for its whimsical Alice in Wonderland-themed playground but also houses a swanky new fitness corner that rewards you for working up a sweat.

Vista Park Cycling Machine

While the children are busy tiring themselves out clambering all over the wacky structures of the playground, you can charge your phone while pedalling away at the stationary bikes. Similar human-powered charging stations juice up phones at a rate of 1% per 2 minutes of cycling, so there’s your incentive to stay just a tad longer.

Cap off your leg day routine with the step trainers to work those calves, and keep your hands busy with the arm cycling machines; these in particular also come built with the same smartphone-charging capabilities.

Address: 580 Woodlands Drive 16, Singapore 730580

4. 107 Towner Road

Towner Road Fitness Corner EquipmentImage credit: Playpoint Singapore

Don’t worry, this futuristic-looking fitness corner’s not exclusive to the residents of some atas condominiums. It’s located near the HDB blocks at 107 Towner Road, and boy does it look fancy.

Taking centre stage are its state-of-the-art fitness stations which include leg and arm cycle machines that make use of magnetic resistance to engage your muscles. The Skinetic is another unique piece of equipment, in which users stand atop a board and manoeuvre it side to side to train flexibility and build a solid core.

Address: 107 Towner Road, Singapore 321107

5. ActiveSG Park @ Jurong Lake Gardens

With how massive Jurong Lake Gardens is, it should come as no surprise that it houses its very own dedicated exercise area. Plan a visit during evenings, and you’ll spot droves of families hanging out around the ActiveSG Park @ Jurong Lake Gardens.

If you don’t fancy working out in solitude, ActiveSG conducts weekly classes such as group suspension training and HIIT sessions, so do call in to book a slot at 6970 1619 if you need some spurring on during your workouts. They’re the same folks behind all the ActiveSG gyms in Singapore, so rest assured their classes will pack a punch.

Lakeside Garden

To cool off, take a dip at the nearby public swimming pool, or make the trip further down to Lakeside Garden where the dreamy scenery is sure to set your racing heart at ease.

Address: 30 Yuan Ching Road, Singapore 618664

6. KPMG Wellness Garden

Fitness Corners In Singapore - KPMG Wellness GardenImage credit: KPMG

Easties will be no strangers to East Coast Park as they’ve had one too many barbeque shindigs and family weekends here, but I’m willing to bet not many know about the more tranquil KPMG Wellness Garden. It’s one of the therapeutic gardens built by NParks, and provides visitors a zen-like environment integrated with nature.

The older crowd will love this one, as it’s built with them in mind. Apart from your average elliptical walkers, there are even wheelchair-friendly fitness stations such as the seated arm cyclers so even the less-mobile can stay active.

For those looking to test their stability, they can attempt to conquer the Agility Zone which sees challengers balancing atop logs of varying heights. To blow off some extra steam, round up your workout with a leisurely walk around the park, or take it to the tarmac by renting a bicycle.

7. 434 Bukit Panjang Ring Road

Singapore’s scorching climate is already borderline unbearable, so fair play to you for wanting to do your workouts away from the sun. This fitness corner situated in the void deck of 434 Bukit Panjang Ring Road is just the place to push yourself to the limits without fully exposing yourself to the elements.

The range of equipment is not too extensive, but it does a pretty good job of cramming multiple stations under the roof of a single void deck. Here, you’ll get to go ham on equipment such as stationary bikes, leg press machines, and seated shoulder press machines.

Address: 434 Bukit Panjang Ring Road, Singapore 670434

8. Chinatown Complex

It’s no secret that Chinatown plays host to some of the most culturally iconic things to do in Singapore. At the rooftop of Chinatown Complex, you’ll find a basketball court, as well as a full-fledged fitness corner. Just take the lift to the top floor of the car park and climb a flight of stairs – you’ll then arrive at this hidden gem.

Drop by, and you might catch a glimpse of these ripped senior chaps making it look all too easy with their body weight routines.

Not too many people know of this obscure workout spot, which makes it perfect for people who’d rather sweat it out in peace. Take note that it might get hot here in the afternoon, as there isn’t any shade you can duck into to rest in between sets.

Address: 46 Smith Street, Singapore 058956

9. Petir Park

Gym bros rejoice. This fitness corner in Petir Park in Bukit Panjang is probably the closest you can get to the free weights section at your resident gym as far as free, public options go.

The specialised outdoor gym equipment here will allow you to adjust the weight of the load you’re pushing. Exercises you can do here include standard bench presses and dumbbell flys, which are mainstays in any gym-goer’s chest day routine. This spot also doesn’t see too much footfall, so you no longer have to queue up to use this bench – unlike overcrowded gyms.

Address: 141 Petir Road, Singapore 670141

Corporate peeps over at the CBD, you’ll be glad to know that you can sneak in a workout sesh in between lunch breaks right in the heart of the city, FOC. Tucked away in the biophilic oasis that is CapitaSpring, are 2 fitness corners on levels 18 and 19.

The biggest of the bunch is the unsheltered one, ideal for catching some sun surrounded by the sky-scraping buildings of Raffles Place while tackling the kettlebells, sit-up benches, and pull-up bars.

Fitness Corners In Singapore - CapitaSpring Sheltered Fitness CornerThere’s also a sheltered option if you’d rather not bake in the sun while working out.

Afterwards, reward yourself by grabbing a bite at the famed Sol & Luna restaurant. You can also bring down your heart rate with a stroll at the building’s Sky Garden which is housed on the 51st floor and features Singapore’s highest urban farm with panoramic views of the city.

Address: 88 Market Street, Singapore 048948

11. Yan Kit Playfield

Located near the outskirts of the bustling city, Yan Kit Playfield is a lesser-known spot where you can hunker down in peace and go about your fitness regime. It’s tucked behind Pinnacle@Duxton and opposite Tanjong Pagar Community Club, so you can expect to wrap up your workouts uninterrupted here.

You can’t miss the stretch of outdoor fitness equipment such as declined sit-up benches, pull-up bars, and monkey bars along the red rubber flooring. In case you’d like to relive your army days, there’s even a dangling low rope for you to ascend.

Finish up with a leisure jog on the 150m long running track, or lay out a yoga mat to do some spiritual stretching on the nearby sprawling lawn.

Address: 17 Yan Kit Road, Singapore 088268

12. Gardens by the Bay Active Garden

Apart from jogging amongst the beautiful flora and the towering Supertrees, those looking for a full-body workout can do so at Gardens by the Bay Active Garden. It’s a dedicated exercise area stocked with various fitness equipment, such as parallel bars, inclined monkey bars, and even a balancing bridge.

View Of MBS At Gardebs by the Bay Active GardenAs an added bonus, you’ll get to take your post-workout pics with MBS in the background.

If you’re not completely knackered, you can take a jaunt to the Flower Dome to take a peek at the seasonal-themed displays. Should you need to limber up, Bayfront MRT is 800m away, so skip the bus ride and add 8 minutes of walking to your daily step count.

Address: 18 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018953

Visit these fitness corners in Singapore for your next workout

We get it, committing to a gym membership can be daunting, especially when the allure of setting a lofty New Year’s resolution has already fizzled out. However, as corny as it sounds, it’s not too late to start your fitness journey with baby steps at your neighbourhood’s fitness corners.

Their ease of use can even prove to be effective motivators to usher the elderly out of the house, to keep active even in old age. And come on, the prospect of having ah gong and ah ma as your workout buddies cannot get any cuter.

First look at Play:Date – Unlocking Cabinets of Play

In a world of tight deadlines and doom-scrolling, sometimes you just want to escape into your childhood toybox, roleplaying as a monster truck driver or a fashionista. At the National Museum of Singapore’s latest pop-up, Play:Date – Unlocking Cabinets of Play, you now can.

What is Play:Date – Unlocking Cabinets of Play?

Play:Date – Unlocking Cabinets of Play is a toy collection pop-up happening from now till 5th January 2025. Located at Level 2 of the National Museum of Singapore, the exhibition features various toys we grew up with – from vintage Barbies to discontinued gaming consoles.

play:date national museum of singapore - entryImage credit: National Museum of Singapore

This entry-free exhibit has more than 270 toys from all over the world, including some dating back to the 1980s. The museum curated this exhibition by collaborating with local toy collectors, like Singapore’s #1 Barbie Doll collector.

It aims to bring up fond memories of old toys that visitors may remember from childhood, and serve as an engaging activity through its renditions of arcade games to play and the chance to create your personalised digital avatar as an add-on purchase.

They’re also open for guests to donate their toys and stories relating to them to be used to make this exhibit more personal and save up for future pop-ups.

What to see at Play:Date  – Unlocking Cabinets of Play

Decorated facade with tactile features

play:date national museum of singapore - external facadeImage credit: Ezekiel Sen

You’ll be surprised to see that the exhibition begins even before you get into proximity to the museum’s entrance. Giant arches of artwork cleverly distract from the museum’s renovation activities, covering the whole facade.

These pieces, done by local artists, represent the lifespan of a toy, right from the conception of the design and idea to how the toy is eventually used in play. But they’re not just there for you to gawk at; if you get closer, you’ll see that each set of panels has an interactive or 3D feature.

play:date national museum of singapore - tactile artImage adapted from: Ezekiel Sen

Some panels have interactive games like a child-sized sliding puzzle and a customisable Mr Potatohead-like activity, while others have pop-out figurines and furry-textured patches.

play:date national museum of singapore - night shift artNight Shift: A mural that shows the creative process of designing a toy, with a pop-out feature.

We were quite surprised that the exhibit already had such a high level of interactivity before we even entered the museum. It’s a great way to get the kids excited for what’s to come.

Immersive tunnel for IG shots

play:date national museum of singapore - art tunnel entranceImage credit: Ezekiel Sen

When you get into the museum, you are met with the entrance of a tunnel, created by graphic designer Oh Jia Hao, that leads you to the next part of the Play:Date. This tunnel is by far the most aesthetic place to get your pics at in this exhibition, with a trippy reflective floor and 3D animations of figurines riding on through a mini-city spiralling around.

Keep your eyes out for cheeky easter eggs while walking through, as the designer has hidden sounds like traffic signal beeps, and animations like paper dolls.

3 main sections showcasing toys from local collectors

The main exhibition is divided into 3 sections: It’s A Small World, for character toys like action figures and dolls; Drive-Through Time, for vehicle toys; and Batteries Included, which feature digital toys like Tamagotchis and consoles.

It’s A Small World: Character toys from McDonald’s, Action City & Barbie

play:date national museum of singapore - happy meal toy wallImage credit: Ezekiel Sen

The first thing that greets you is a bright red and yellow wall, displaying toys from the golden arches, McDonald’s. Happy Meal toys have been a huge part of our lives, spanning many generations. With some toys from the 80s, even your parents might feel a wave of nostalgia hitting when they see them.

From sets of OG character toys like Grimace and the Hamburglar, to newer Pop Mart collaborations, you and your friends can come down here and see who finished the collection themselves. There’s even a McDonald’s Jenga!

play:date national museum of singapore - mcdonalds french fry camera

There are several pull-out drawers or cupboards at the pop-up, each containing a special-edition toy, enhancing childlike curiosity. In the Barbie section, it’s a sustainable doll made up of recycled materials, and in this section, it’s a limited-release French Fry Camera that 90s kids might recall.

play:date national museum of singapore - mcdonalds happy meal toysImage adapted from: Ezekiel Sen

One of our favourite parts of the McDonald’s exhibit is the section of the wall where you can play with actual vintage Happy Meal toys. There are transformer-esque toys that go from chicken nugget boxes to dinosaurs and Winnie The Pooh plushies to squish.

As for local features, the wall also had the complete collection of Mr Kiasu Happy Meal toys from 1993, which are extremely hard to come by, even on platforms like Carousell.

play:date national museum of singapore - barbie wallImage credit: Ezekiel Sen

Opposite the red wall, you’ll be met by a hot pink display of over 30 Barbie dolls of all shapes and sizes. There are dolls wearing Indian traditional wear, a Barbie in a wheelchair, and those wearing high-fashion couture, reminding us how diverse the Mattel brand is.

play:date national museum of singapore - singapore airlines vintage barbie

What popped out to us were the extremely rare Singapore Airlines cabin crew dolls that were released in 1991, which now go for hundreds of dollars in resale value.

They also had the 50th Anniversary re-release of the first-ever Barbie and Ken set, with the iconic swimsuit doll from the opening of 2023’s Barbie movie.

play:date national museum of singapore - actioncity pop martImage adapted from: Ezekiel Sen

Last but not least, the latest contenders in SG’s toy landscape have been ActionCity X POP MART figurines. Play:Date displays a select few that represent landmarks of their presence in the country. You’ll also find the first-ever Singapore-exclusive figurine, Pucky Rose Knight Baby, the giant ActionCity x BE@RBRICK SG50 figure for the 50th year of independence.

Drive-Through Time: Toy car collection with Hot Wheels & Matchbox

play:date national museum of singapore - hot wheels toysImage credit: National Museum of Singapore

Speeding ahead, we arrive at the car and vehicle toy section of the exhibit, which has a lot of interesting finds such as a wall of Hot Wheels cars, including the completed 16-piece set of the first drop.

play:date national museum of singapore - matchbox carsImage credit: Ezekiel Sen

The glass case also had a wide variety of Matchbox vehicle toys, which, as the name suggests, were made to fit a matchbox size. It was quite cool to see no detail spared, even in these tiny replicas, such as a textured army tank and a double-decker bus.

play:date national museum of singapore - mystery machine mr bean car toyImage credit: Ezekiel Sen

For the movie buffs, the toy collector also provided a set of vehicle toys that were from TV shows like the iconic Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo, or Mr Bean’s Green Tamaya, with Teddy in tow.

Batteries Included: Digital toys like Tamagotchis & hand-held consoles

play:date national museum of singapore - digital toysImage credit: National Museum of Singapore

At Batteries Included, your eyes will meet with familiar green pipes and pixelated clouds, taking you to a Super Mario state of mind. The last section of the exhibit consists of mini-consoles and other digital toys, like Game & Watch consoles, which were simple devices with one game each and simultaneously telling the time.

play:date national museum of singapore - game and watch console Image credit: Ezekiel Sen

Nintendo Switch fans might see the Great Grandfather of their devices with the Game & Watch Micro VS System devices. Much like the Switch, the 1980s console had 2 remotes that pop out for 1v1 gameplay, birthing a whole generation of gamer boys.

play:date national museum of singapore - tamagotchis
Image adapted from: National Museum of Singapore & Ezekiel Sen

Opposite the wall of Game and Watches and consoles, is an entire display dedicated to Tamagotchis. Some of the rarer ones spotted were the Tamagotchi Osutchi and Mesutchi, which were little pets that you raised as either a “boy” or “girl”, and eventually you’d have to find an “opposite gendered” device for them to get married.

The other was a limited edition SG Tamagotchi by Suntec City, which had red and white decals on the cover.

Play arcade games with your DIY avatar

play:date national museum of singapore - avatar playmate
Image adapted from: Ezekiel Sen

Though the pop-up is entirely free to explore, there are a few activities that require an add-on payment. Specifically, their Play:Mate digital toy avatar and arcade games, require an add-on payment.

In order to create your digital avatar buddy or Play:Mate, you need to pay $5, which gets you a Starter Pack of one character and 3 tokens for playing arcade games in the exhibit. If you need more tokens, they’re also available for purchase.

play:date national museum of singapore - arcade gamesImage adapted from: National Museum of Singapore

The 3 games to play are all inspired by arcade classics like racing and brick-breaking games and each round requires one token to play. By beating certain rounds or collecting items in the game, you get points that can be used to buy accessories for your Play:Mate at a later booth.

The Brick Battle game was by far the most challenging as the ball tends to move fast. However, it was also the game that got us the most points.

play:date national museum of singapore - playmate decoration Image adapted from: National Museum of Singapore and Ezekiel Sen

Once you’ve garnered points from the games, you can customise your Play:Mate with accessories that you pay for with the points. We decided to decorate our burger buddy with a teh tarik hat, a Kopitiam uncle-style towel, and a chilli crab pet.

When you’re done, you can choose to save your digital avatar for free or get a physical printout by donating to the National Museum. You can also take a picture together with your Play:Mate at a photo booth where they’ll be flashed on screen.

Have a Play:Date at the National Museum

We found Play:Date at National Museum to be a great free activity to entertain our inner children. It’s also one you’d want to return to a few times – as there are plenty of easter egg toys and features you may have missed your first time here.

Personally, we think it would have been even more fun if they were able to add more physical play, as they did with the Happy Meal toys. This would’ve made it more interactive.

For more art exhibitions this year, check out ArtScience Museum’s Frida Kahlo digital art exhibit or look out for their Studio Ghibli art exhibition. For another free art activity like Play:Date, spend your evenings at this year’s Singapore Night Festival.

Free water playgrounds in Singapore

We’re no stranger to Singapore’s blistering hot weather. But the good news is – you don’t have to spend a single cent to let your children cool down and still have a day of fun. Singapore is scattered with free water playgrounds where your little energetic kiddos can splash around in shallow pools or get a refreshing shower of water from massive dunking buckets.

What to prepare before visiting a water playground in Singapore

You and junior are very likely going to get wet so you’ll want to prepare for that. That means bathing suits, an extra change of clothes, and even towels to dry off quickly. Waterproof shoes, such as rubber sandals would be appropriate for a water playground to protect feet from stepping on debris.

For toddlers still in diapers, you might want to get them swim diapers. Ones like the Huggies Little Swimmer Pants prevent leaks while letting kids move around freely in water.

Of course, in Singapore’s heat, you’ll want to apply lots of waterproof sunscreen before heading out into the sun. Waterproof hats are also a great way to protect heads from getting sunburnt.

Don’t forget to stay hydrated too. Even though you’ll be surrounded by water, you should drink up regularly after playing for hours. A good heat-insulating tumbler will work wonders in keeping your drink cold, perfect for when it’s time to cool off after playing in the sun for hours.

North-Easties over at Buangkok don’t have to wander far for a whale of a time at a water playground, as they can head right to Buangkok Square Park Water Park. It’s split into 2 areas; the splash pad zone is for older kids to mess about with a spray jet tunnel and a dragonfly-themed fountain raining water from above, among other installations.

Review of KidZania Singapore at Sentosa

In 2020, the brightly coloured streets of KidZania Singapore shuttered no thanks to COVID-19. 4 years on, kids can once again rejoice with the return of the beloved indoor theme park, just in time for the June holidays.

We went down to Sentosa to check out the KidZania reopening to get you all the deets on what’s worth checking out and what can be given a miss. If you’ve been before, you’ll be happy to know that the space is donning brand new exhibits and activities.

– Tips to know before you go down to KidZania Singapore –

What is KidZania Singapore & what is the entry fee?

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - entrance

Simply put, KidZania Singapore is an indoor theme park aimed at helping children discover adulthood in an entertaining and immersive way. It’s constructed as a replica city complete with a bank, retail stores, and most importantly role-playing jobs for your kids to try including “salaries” to earn.

These are ticket prices, segmented by age:

  • Baby (0-1 years): Free entry
  • Toddler (2-3 years): $29-$58
  • Child (4-17 years): $60-$120
  • Adult (18 years and above): $37-$73

Note that ticket prices are dynamic and vary according to timing, season, and demand. There are also frequent promotions on tickets you can look out for and when booked in advance, prices can go down for as low as 50% off.

Come as early as possible & allocate a whole day for exploring

Like at any theme park, lines are to be expected. Apart from queuing time, parents also need to factor in the time each activity takes to complete – generally, about 15 minutes. Some of the more popular ones can take up to 30 minutes, as opposed to a 2-minute rollercoaster at a theme park.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - replica city
Squeeze in nap time on the stroller if queues get too long.

This can lead to extremely long queues as the batches of children per activity are also quite small. We know what you’re thinking, “Let’s split up and have one parent queue for their child, while the child does a more free activity”. Alas, this isn’t possible due to Kidzania’s “only kids queuing” rule.

The longest we waited was over an hour, so we suggest keeping a full day to explore the entire theme park. It might also be a good idea to bring along a fully charged iPad or game to keep the young one entertained while waiting.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - lab

That being said, KidZania was a brand-new attraction at the time of our visit, so large crowds were expected. However, with several exhibits still being closed and the school holidays under way, we think the waiting times and lines will linger for a few more weeks.

We suggest planning your visit on a weekday and trying to get to KidZania as early as possible. It would also be helpful to study the map in advance and prioritise activities the kids really want to do, so you don’t waste too much time navigating the area.

The exhibits with the longest wait times were the Aviation Academy, SCDF Fire Station, SCDF Police Station, Irvin’s Chips Factory, and the Parkway East Paediatric Hospital.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - acitivity placard

Another useful tool to help you gauge waiting times is the placards at the entrance of each activity. These list out important details such as capacity, duration, suggested ages, and learning outcomes.

Chill at the common seating areas & free zones

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - stadium

Now, you must be wondering whether there are rest areas for the fam to chill out in between activities and luckily there are quite a few. There are benches on the main street near attractions and in the cafe area.

Alternatively, if your child still wants to be thrust into action, you can take a breather at the KidZania Stadium to watch batches of children do simple drills and play a round of football.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - theatre seats

There’s also the KidZania Theatre, where there are occasional performances by staff and children, as well as screenings of cartoon films.

Finally, if parents need a break, there’s a Parent’s Lounge with couches and Wi-Fi access where usually young ones aren’t allowed in but knowing them, they’ll find a way to weasel in and not leave their parent’s side.

Earn Kidzos & redeem them for toys or merchandise

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - kidzos currency

Upon entering KidZania, kids get 50 Kidzos, which is the official currency they can earn from their “jobs” and spend at places like the KidZania Department Store. On average, kids can earn about 6-10 Kidzos depending on the activity they do.

If the kiddos want to earn more, they can sign up for the B·KidZanian loyalty program, where for $38, they’ll get a “pazzport”. This can be used at selected KidZanias around the world to earn more Kidzos from activities and discounts at KidZania stores.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - CIMB bank

Your kid can also head over to the CIMB Bank to open a bank account and deposit their hard-earned Kidzos, getting a debit card in return.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - CIMB ATM

If they’d like to withdraw cash or check their balance, they can head over to a mock ATM in the park too.

– What activities can you do at KidZania Singapore? –

There are over 60 activities that kids can explore at the theme park if you have all the time in the world. Here are some of the highlights:

Become a pilot at Malaysia Airlines Aviation Academy

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - flight simulator

We headed first to the Malaysia Airlines Aviation Academy, anticipating a long queue as it is the most popular attraction in the park. After about 30 minutes of waiting, we were in and this exhibit truly doesn’t disappoint.

Kids embark on a mission to land a plane via the flight simulator, clad in a legit pilot uniform. There’s great attention to detail in the several cockpits with all the buttons and switches that one would assume are also seen on real flights.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - pilot

The entry to this exhibit is hidden inside a hallway on the first level, which could be a strategy to manage crowds. However, when lines get longer, the narrow hallway can get a little stuffy to wait in. It’s also worth mentioning that this is one of the few activities where kids will have to pay Kidzos to participate.

Fun factor: 4/5

Step into the shoes of a doc at the Paediatric Urgent Care Hospital

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - hospital

The Parkway East Paediatric Urgent Care Hospital was our longest wait at the park, taking over an hour to get to the activity. This activity involved a group of children learning how stethoscopes and gauze work in an urgent care room replica. The highlight of this zone, though, is the ambulance ride after the briefing.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - ambulance

We’d say this activity works great for younger attendees as there isn’t too much going on. For older kids, it may be a bit less stimulating in comparison to being a pilot or game designer.

Fun factor: 2/5

Make your own sweet treats at the Cookie Factory

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - cookie making class

One of the most enjoyable activities we did was at the Cookie Factory. Here, your future Cheryl Koh can get their chef hats on by making their own chocolate cookies, decorated with sprinkles of their choosing.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - DIY cookies

The activity yields 4 cookies, which take 20 minutes to bake in the oven, so you can go ahead to a different activity and then return for some freshly baked treats. Participation in this activity does cost real money – $5/child to be exact – but it’s worth the hands-on experience. Plus, kids get to bring home their creations… or devour them on the spot.

Fun factor: 5/5

Extinguish a fire engulfing Flamingo Hotel

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - fire department

Besides pilot, firefighter is probably one of the most common answers given by kids when asked what they want to be when they grow. And they get to do just that at the Fire Station by trying to put out a “fire” engulfing Flamingo Hotel.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - fire truck

There’s also a red SCDF fire truck on display for snapping photos of your little firefighter in action.

Fun factor: 5/5

Fix a faulty tap at Howdy Man plumbing

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - howdy man plumbing

KidZania features a number of activities involving manual jobs such as that of a plumber, electrician, and window washer, for kids to appreciate. The Howdy Man plumber station involves a crash course on how plumbing systems work and how to fix a simple leaky faucet.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - fixing a tap

This activity was by far the most hands-on and might be a more common problem for kids to encounter at home. We also noticed that there was a smaller line for this exhibit, so you could pin it down as something to do when the other activities’ waiting times become unreasonably long.

Fun factor: 4/5

Try your hand at 21st-century jobs like gaming designer

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - gaming designer

One of the major changes to KidZania’s exhibits is a focus on newer jobs you’ll find today such as an antimicrobial lab in response to the pandemic, or a videogame designer. The Game Design Lab allows youngins to create their own mini-game on a computer including base-level coding.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - urban farming

Sustainability is another focus with an Urban Farm job station, where there’s a take-home plant for you to nurture and grow after learning about indoor farming. Here, you’ll also find an electric vehicle driveway that shows how solar panels are used to generate electrical energy.

Fun factor: 3/5

Learn how to make a pizza at the Pizza Factory

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - canadian pizza making class

Aside from the flight simulator and fire truck exhibits, the Pizza Factory by Canadian Pizza was by far one of the most popular attractions. Entry for this activity is $10/pax which is inclusive of a pizza-making class where you get to bring home the pizza, as well as a drink and a badge.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - canadian pizza

Due to time constraints, we weren’t quite able to go for the class so instead, we bought a Pizza + Drink Combo for $9.50, with a personal pan pizza and a drink. Pick from 5 flavours of pizza including Super Cheese, Beef Pepperoni, Hawaiian, BBQ Chicken, and Cheesy Mushroom.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - F&B

Kids can also snack on sides like chicken nuggets and tater tots.

Shop for souvenirs & merch at KidZania’s Department Store

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - department store

So, what do the kids do with the rewards of their hard work? Head to KidZania’s Department Store to buy toy sets, stationery, and games with their earned Kidzos. We will say, though, that the cheapest item at the store was around 250 Kidzos, so it may take a few rounds of work to get the things they want.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - gift store

There is also a KidZania gift shop where you can buy items with real money, such as merchandise, plush toys, and water bottles.

How to get to KidZania Singapore?

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - palawan beach

If you plan on taking the Sentosa Express, alight at Beach Station and take a 4-minute walk to KidZania Singapore.

Those driving here, the closest parking lot is Beach Station Car Park, which is also 4 minutes away from Palawan Kidz City – the building in which KidZania is located. The building is easily identifiable with a large sign and a plane head jutting out the front.

Is KidZania Singapore worth a visit?

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - theatre

So, is KidZania worth the steep entry fee? TLDR; it is a no-brainer that the theme park is designed for kids to have a fun time. I mean, imagine telling a child that there’s a whole city dedicated to them to be just like mommy and daddy.

However, we’re not sure if the schtick of teaching kids how adult lives work is really prominent enough to justify the whopping entry fee of almost $100/child, especially when some kids are just there to mess around as opposed to sit and learn.

We also found a few of the exhibits still a work in progress when we reached and some seemed like they were open but had no attendees. It would have been helpful if the website reflected this information to avoid any disappointed faces. Finally, the super long queues were a bit of a turn-off but hopefully that eases as the hype of the opening slowly dissipates.

KidZania Singapore Sentosa - plumbing

All that being said, we highly appreciate how attentive and genuinely caring the staff of KidZania was. We noticed that every instructor took great care to include all participants in activities and gave extra time to those who needed a little more. For parents and guardians, KidZania’s design is also amusing to look at, being a bite-sized version of the real world.

World Of Blocks

Let’s be honest, regardless of age, there’s never a bad time to get active and frolic around in playgrounds. And there’s nothing better than awakening your inner child in indoor playgrounds so you can escape the heat and still have a blast.

World of Blocks is a new Minecraft and Roblox-inspired indoor playground near Jurong East with multiple zones to explore. So, grab your friends and family and show your kiddos you still got it, despite all their arguments otherwise.

9 zones including giant slides, trampolines & a mega air bubble

Excitingly there’s no age limit for you to book your ticket, but, if you’re worried about your toddler’s safety in a sea of adults, they can hang out at the Toddler Zone.

Besides the Toddler Zone, there are tons of other zones to explore, like their Giant slide pit & play, Builders, and Trampoline zones.

Their Mega Air Bubble zone sports a gigantic bouncy bubble that defies gravity. Don’t worry, you won’t be levitating like Dua Lipa does, you’ll be bouncing, slipping n’ sliding off the bubble instead.

Activities like Flying Fox, obstacle course & block maze

Fret not, if you’re worried about missing your gym sesh, you’re more than likely to burn calories at this INDOOR playground. Or if you’re a parent, you can easily tire your kid out before their afternoon nap, once they’ve run through these fun activities.

World of Blocks - bubbleImage credit: @worldofblocksasia via Instagram

You can partake in the Flying Fox where your kiddo can have their I believe I can fly moment. And, there’s also an obstacle course that will surely wipe ‘em out while having tons of fun.

The block maze will have you and your kids living out your Maze Runner fantasies. Without the giant spiders, of course.

There’s also a Builders Zone for you and your kiddo to unwind at after huffing and puffing through the exciting activities. You can build your own cool structures and snap cute pics with the masterpieces you’ve created.

Let your imagination run wild at World of Blocks

Even if you consider yourself an extremely elegant, put-together, classy adult, the idea of playing in a playground is always enticing.

And, if you’re a mom/dad you can make tons of memories with your kiddos and show ‘em how it’s done – playing without any tech. That being said, head on over to the world’s largest block-themed playground and unleash your inner child. Tons of sugar should do the trick.

Aside from the flavourful dishes, the vibe here is casual, which makes it perfect for tucking into a plate of sausages and spam fries.

In a city stacked with hundreds of Korean meat meccas, Hanjip stands out for several reasons. 11. Genius Central

For Margherita pizza & pasta

This might come as a surprise, but healthy eating doesn’t usually involve a lackluster salad or a boiled chicken breast. Sometimes, it comes in the form of lean proteins, good fats, and solid fiber. And that’s what’s on the menu at Genius Central.

While the majority of the bites, bowls, and mains are gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan, they still pack some serious flavours. But if you aren’t ready to jump into the deep end of the healthy eating pool, feel free to order the popcorn chicken.

For those planning a healthy-ish family brunch on Sunday, know that the kids will be able to nab a free meal if they’re below 12 years old. The free food of choice rotates on the regular, and for now it’s a yummy margherita pizza, available for 1 redemption per table and with a minimum purchase of 2 main courses.
