CNY decoration stores in Singapore 2025

It happens routinely every year – once Christmas is over, the shiny baubles and tinsel strands in malls start making way for flashy red and gold couplets and “福” (luck) signs to signify the start of the Chinese New Year period. *Cue “dong dong dong qiang” music* Instead of just admiring the festive displays at Chinatown, go one step further to invite extra huat to your home this Chinese New Year by decking it out with ready-made CNY decor – no time-consuming DIY-ing with red packets needed. We have a whole list of CNY decoration stores in Singapore to help you get your home CNY-ready.

When is CNY 2025?

This year, Chinese New Year falls on Wednesday, 29th January 2025, marking the start of the Year of the Snake. However, the festivities officially begin on the eve, 28th January 2025, with family reunions with scrumptious food either at restaurants or at home. The celebrations last for 15 days until Chap Goh Mei on 11th February 2025. Preparations, however, start well before CNY eve, with spring cleaning and decorating homes to welcome prosperity and good fortune.

What are the meanings behind CNY decorations?

Chinese New Year decorations are more than just ornamental. They carry significant meanings rooted in tradition and symbolism. For instance, the character “福” (fú), which means luck or fortune, is often hung upside down because the Chinese word for “upside down” (倒, dào) sounds like “arrive” (到, dào). This clever wordplay symbolises the arrival of luck, which is why Chinese households, especially those who own businesses, put them up.

However, not all characters should be flipped. The character “吉” (jí), meaning auspicious or lucky, is never displayed upside down as it could imply the opposite – turning good fortune into bad luck.

Other popular decorations, like red lanterns, couplets, and paper cuttings, feature imagery of wealth, longevity, and happiness, making them staples in homes and public spaces during the season.

Behind the scenes at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay is a “tropical oasis” according to Forbes, a “garden of wonder” according to the BBC, and “an amazing place that got nice air con and pretty photo spots” according to the average Singaporean.

We’ve all been there, snapped a gazillion photos, and posted the hashtag #gardenswiththebae on Instagram. But for something largely transparent – literally, the domes are made of glass – most of us have no clue about its inner workings.

Where do all the flowers come from? What happens to them once an event ends? We contacted Gardens by the Bay to get a peony for their thoughts – hah. They allowed us a behind the scenes peek as they set up an event at the Flower Dome.

Where on earth do all the flowers come from?

Gardens by the Bay - Poinsettia Wishes 2023
Poinsettia Wishes 2023 – Exotic flowers don’t grow in Singapore, right? So what sorcery is this?
Image credit: Gardens by the Bay

Amidst the organised chaos during set-up, we managed to grab the busy Melissa Tan, Gardens by the Bay’s Deputy Director of Conservatory Operations, to help answer a few of our burning questions. Think of her as the friendly commander in this multifaceted operation.

Gardens by the Bay - Melissa Tan

As you’ve probably guessed, a large fraction of the flowers here are painstakingly brought in from overseas “growers” for each event. But they aren’t just shipped directly – rookie mistake! Shipping whole plants long-distance can result in them breaking en route.

Gardens by the Bay - Chrysanthemum

To grow chrysanthemum varieties from Europe, Japan, and Holland for example, stock materials like roots are brought to nearby locations like Cameron Highlands, where they grow big before being brought over to Singapore by land.

It can be a tricky affair since they have to arrive at just the right time, so the flowers are in full bloom when the show begins.

Are there any hidden features in the Flower Dome?

Gardens by the Bay - Tulipmania 2023
Flower Dome during
Tulipmania 2023.

The short answer is yes, but they aren’t something out of a spy movie. The Flower Dome is smartly designed with everything you could possibly think of preemptively included into the glass structure. Apart from having heat-reflective glass and sails that can be unfurled to provide better shade for the flowers, the dome also has a hidden road most visitors don’t get to see.

That’s how all the flowers and large props get brought in without obstructing the buzzing visitor traffic outside.

Gardens by the Bay - behind the scenes

Located right by the Flower Dome exit, the road is just large enough for small vehicles like buggies and trolleys to go through. Pots of flowers, large decor, and other bits and bobs come in through this path.

The path is closed most of the time, but you can see the purplish pink wall that obscures it on your way out.

Hearsay you grow some of the plants right here in Singapore?

Gardens by the Bay - Support biome

This is a part of Gardens by the Bay that visitors do not get to see. Down one of the many winding paths is a greenhouse where some of the display flowers are grown locally. It resembles a mini Flower Dome, with giant glass panels and nifty contraptions that blend in seamlessly with the rest of the structure.

Gardens by the Bay - Carly Anderson

We stepped into a colourful world of plants, with sizes ranging from barely-visible seeds to tall flowering ones that reached our hips. Here, we met Carly Anderson, a Researcher at Gardens by the Bay.

Inside look GBTB - support biome - lights

Within the nicely regulated 20-22°C of the glasshouse, she introduced us to the ceiling lights that help extend “sunlight hours” for the plants to achieve perfect blooms, and the wheels beneath each row of plants for easy maintenance.

We also had a peek at the back rooms where Carly does desk work, and enjoyed a drink from the water dispenser – classic office stuff. Certainly a pretty place to call a second home.

Apart from this facility, there are 2 more glasshouses scattered across Gardens by the Bay. For suckers for cool names, these are called Support Biome 1, 2, and 3.

Gardens by the Bay - buggy

When it’s time for planting, the flowers here are carefully picked up and transported over to the Flower Dome in small quantities. If you see these buggies filled with flowers shuttling around the gardens, you now know what they’re up to.

How difficult is it to plan an exhibition at the Flower Dome?

Travellers far and wide have heard of Gardens by the Bay, so the pressure to live up to the reputation is real. Remember your university FYP project where you get a year to plan something cool? This is something like that but on a much bigger scale.

Inside look GBTB - mongolia

9 months to a year in advance, the planning begins. There’s the conceptualisation of themes, discussions with foreign embassies, and even recce trips overseas.

Inside look GBTB - mongolia market
Image credit: Gardens by the Bay

For example, the Chrysanthemum Charm floral display earlier this year featured a Mongolian theme, hence the crew flew off to the Land of Nomads to get a realistic feel of the landscape.  The trip included visits to the market to look for authentic decor, which were eventually used to decorate parts of the exhibits like the yurts. Yep, the Gardens by the Bay career site is here if you’re now interested.

Why do my flowers die so easily while the ones at GBTB thrive?

Inside look GBTB - Poinsettia Wishes - flower
Image credit: Gardens by the Bay

We had access to the experts so of course we couldn’t leave without asking Melissa this essential question.

Here’s the low-down, coming from a pro. Gardening is not always easy – you have to understand your plant, read up on how to care for it, and treat the symptoms right. Most of the time plants die because we have, in the worlds of Selena Gomez, killed them with kindness – by overwatering.

Inside look GBTB - behind the scenes - planting

If you wish to go down the rabbit hole, there’s also micro environmental factors to take into account like wind factor, direction of sun, and if it’s outdoor versus indoor.

In short, if you want to grow flowers in Singapore, get good. Or, just buy a fake plant from IKEA if another dead plant baby would shatter your heart.

What happens to all the flowers once the exhibition is over?

Inside look GBTB - The Flower Carpet
The Flower Carpet, which was on display earlier this year.

Some of the plants are moved to other parts of the garden. Chrysanthemums for example, can take the heat and would be suitable for outdoor garden displays.

Gardens by the Bay - Eco-Wise

Those that are too old or damaged to be reused are transported over to the on-site Eco-Wise facility where they are turned into wood chips, which are then burnt and converted into energy. While the energy generated is used to power Gardens by the Bay and cool the domes, the residual heat produced is used for dehumidification.

TL;DR, dead plants are used to provide better growing environments for existing plants. There’s no need to pull up The Lion King, you can watch the Circle of Life here.

It’s truly hard not to be impressed by the fact that the 1,010,000sqm garden operates as a cleverly crafted ecosystem, with each jigsaw in the puzzle carefully thought out from the get go.

Uncovering the secrets of Gardens by the Bay

Inside look GBTB - Poinsettia Wishes
Poinsettia Wishes 2023.
Image credit: Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay has plenty of hidden features we don’t see, and little fun facts that have somehow not come to light. Why? We’re not sure. Maybe it’s just because no one has asked. These aren’t vault-level secrets like Coca-Cola’s recipes.

Gardens by the Bay - Photo spots

One final cool tip the folks from the Gardens shared was that there’s lots more to do within the garden apart from visiting the ever popular domes. Find offbeat photo spots if you take a walk along one of the many paths. There are also life-sized topiary animals and even an arowana aquarium – easy enough to find if you just take a look at the official Gardens by the Bay map

Our beloved GBTB is much like an onion – with layers upon layers to unpack. There’s more to the beautiful attraction than meets the eye and knowing these may give you a deeper level of appreciation that next time you play tourist in Singapore.

The current show Poinsettia Wishes, will be happening till 1st January 2024, and you can get your tickets on Gardens by the Bay’s website

Kada at Maxwell

With the opening of New Bahru earlier this year, yet another unique lifestyle mall has been added to the list in Singapore. Kada at Maxwell is the newest trendy destination in town, and the once-colonial building has turned into a fun, vintage space with many cafe options and fitness facilities.

The building is next to the iconic Maxwell Food Centre, so head down after a satisfying hawker meal to check out the area. Alternatively, it’s also a convenient 3-minute and 7-minute walk from Maxwell MRT and Tanjong Pagar MRT respectively.

Where to use CDC vouchers 2024

If there’s anything Singaporeans can agree on, it’s that free things must take. After all, the only thing better than a good deal is not having to pay a thing at all.  A new set of CDC vouchers was released on 25th June 2024. Each household will be able to claim $300 from now till 31st December 2024.

This time round, the use of the CDC vouchers has been split 50-50 between hawkers and heartland merchants, and supermarkets, meaning you get $150 to spend on either category. But that doesn’t mean you’re relegated to just

If you thought you only had hawkers and participating supermarkets to spend at, we’re here to prove you wrong. Here are 16 things to spend your CDC vouchers on, including things to do, eat, and buy that you might not have known about.

What to know about CDC vouchers 2024

The CDC vouchers released on 25th June 2024 is the second disbursement for the year. This set of vouchers is worth $300 and must be used by 31st December 2024.

Vouchers are given to households, not individuals, where there’s at least 1 Singaporean citizen registered at that address. Meaning, if you haven’t updated your NRIC with your new address, your CDC voucher would be tied to your last registered address.

The CDC vouchers are in fixed denominations of $2, $5, and $10, so it’s likely you’ll have to pay any balance in cash, credit card, or bank transfer like PayNow or PayLah!. There’s no change given if you spend less than the voucher amount stated.

CDC vouchers can be redeemed via the RedeemSG portal. Take note that each residential address has its own unique voucher link, so be careful of who you share the link with.

Any unused vouchers will be forfeited, however, you can also consider donating your CDC vouchers to charities, but details on this will be announced at a later date in 2024.

You can read our full guide on CDC vouchers for more details.

These pizzas are made from sourdough, which adds a tangy kick to the crust. What you get is crunch on the outside, and a tender chew on the inside.

Can I spend my CDC vouchers at supermarkets?

The short answer is yes, you can. For the second tranche of vouchers, each household is given $150 to spend at participating supermarkets and grocery stores, such as Sheng Shiong, Hao, and NTUC Fairprice.

From now till 30th June 2024, you can also score cash vouchers when you use your CDC vouchers at selected supermarkets. At Giant, you’ll get a $6 return voucher with a minimum spend of $60, and at Cold Storage and CS Fresh, you can get an $8 return voucher with a minimum spend of $80. Do note that you must use your $60 or $80 worth of your CDC vouchers to redeem these vouchers.

Where to spend your CDC vouchers

Until about 10 minutes ago, chances are you were one of many who thought that your CDC vouchers could only be spent at the same hawker stalls you’ve been frequenting all your life. From this list, though, it’s clear that that is not the case.

From pet grooming to eyebrow threading, you can not only spend your vouchers on yourself, but your pets too. Heck, you can even spend them grooming the hair pets above your eyes.

Thrift shopping at Thryft Hub in Tiong Bahru

I think it’s safe to say that the majority of Singaporeans enjoy thrift shopping, whether for unique, vintage clothing styles or purely for the vibes. Thryft Hub is yet another store you can add to the list of stores to visit with your besties, where you can find second-hand apparel, books, and vinyl records.

What is Thryft Hub?

thryft hub interiorImage credit: Thryft

Thryft Hub is a second-hand store selling books, clothes, and vinyls. The concept started as a project by a group of friends and quickly became one of the largest brands to thrift in Singapore.

Once located at the former Peace Centre, the store has since moved to a humble area in Telok Blangah. If you plan to head down via public transport, take the MRT to Tiong Bahru station, followed by a 15-minute stroll or an 8-minute bus ride.

What can I shop at Thryft Hub?

Second-hand book titles

booksImage credit: Thryft

The first thing you’ll notice in-store is the massive selection of second-hand novels on the shelves. Since the books are all pre-loved, it’s no surprise that titles here are going for cheaper than you’ll find at other bigger bookstore chains in Singapore.

Browse genres like horror, young adult, children’s storybooks, memoirs, cookbooks, and personal development reads.

thryft hub vintage booksImage credit: Thryft

Avid bookworms or collectors, you’ll be thrilled to know there’s a collection of vintage and rare books. Not typically found in regular stores, the range includes classics and hard-to-find reads, from colourful and light-hearted Marvel comics to more political and history-based ones.

Thrift a new wardrobe

clothesImage credit: Thryft

We don’t make the rules, but we can agree that clothes are a must-have in every thrift store. From casual blouses to formal suits, Thryft Hub is the perfect place to be if you want to switch up your style and wardrobe for cheap.

The clothes are up to 90% off retail prices. Dig deep, and you may find hidden treasures from brands like Lovet, Zara, and G2000. There’s a variety of women’s and men’s clothing, with an inclusive size range from XS to XXL.

Discover new music on vinyl records

thryft hub vinyl

The return of vinyl records has been a trend for quite some time. Records at Thryft Hub aren’t the cheapest, but you’ll be able to spot unique and vintage pieces from the 80s and 90s from artists such as Kenny Rogers, The Beatles, and Elton John.

It’s music to the ears for everyone, whether you’re into jazzy classics, hardcore punk or even mandopop.

There’s also an in-house turntable where you can test the quality of the vinyl before making your purchase, especially since they’re pre-loved.

Chill at the R&R corners

Grab a book and plop into the soft, comfy chairs while you’re testing out your vinyl. If you have kids with you, there’s also a drawing corner with paper and crayons already provided, perfect for entertaining the little ones.

Donate pre-loved items for store credits

thryft hub donateImage credit: Thryft

Chinese New Year’s approaching, and it’s about time we start spring cleaning. Thryft Hub welcomes all donations with open arms, so consider trading in any pre-loved items instead of throwing them out. Apart from the obvious, they’ve expanded their inventory and now accept children’s toys, board games, game consoles, and electronics.

The best part is that you’ll be given store credits in exchange for your generosity. These credits can be used to shop in-store or on their website, so find out more about how you can donate to Thryft.

Shop or donate thrifting items at Thryft Hub

We bet the thrifting scene in Singapore will only get bigger, with prominent pop-ups like The Hammock Market. It is a way to shop sustainably, and you can also explore new styles with different, unique pieces. No longer will you be showing up in surprise twinning outfits with your classmates or colleagues.

Punggol Coast MRT Station Opens, Connected To New Shopping Mall For North-Easties In The Future https://thesmartlocal.com/read/punggol-coast-mall/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 10:04:46 +0000 https://thesmartlocal.com/?p=348841 North-Easties, leave some malls for the rest of us 🥺

Punggol Coast Mall & Punggol Coast MRT

As if North-Easties don’t have enough shopping haunts already, one more has popped up in their neighbourhood this December. Following the opening of new malls in the vicinity such as Sengkang Grand Mall and Anchorvale Village, Punggol Coast Mall is yet another convenient stop for shopaholics and foodies staying on one end of the Purple Line to saunter in.

From a slew of F&B and retail chains to hit up, to its convenient proximity to the recently opened Punggol Coast MRT station, here’s all you need to know as it fully opens up in the coming weeks.

What is Punggol Coast Mall?

Punggol Coast Mall is a new shopping complex in the North-East of Singapore that’s going to be up and running in the near future following the opening of Punggol Coast MRT station. From the looks of it, it will take on an open-air concept with a sprawling plaza on Level 1, that’s connected directly to Punggol Coast MRT station on the NEL.

Punggol Coast MRT stationImage credit: Chee Hong Tat 徐芳达 via Facebook

Speaking of which, this means that those living and working in the area at places such as the Punggol Digital District, as well as students of SIT’s Punggol campus, will have easy access to the mall.

Punggol Coast MRT station and consequently, Punggol Coast Mall, will be accessible via a 5-minute walk from the aforementioned destinations, which means they don’t have to wander too far for their meals or shopping sprees.

What shops & restaurants are in Punggol Coast Mall?

As far as retail stores go, shoppers can expect to find a couple of familiar chains within Punggol Coast Mall. The mall will be welcoming about 120 tenants, and while they’ve not moved in and set up shop just yet, posters around the mall have revealed a couple of names that you can find on its directory.

Daiso
Image for illustrative purposes only.

These include huge Japanese retailers Daiso and Muji, while Harvey Norman will be the place to head to for IT gadgets and general electronics. The corporate folks trying to sneak in a workout during lunch can do so at Amore Fitness, and there’ll also be a PlayFACTO School here to drop the little ones off at.

Luckin Coffee

Food-wise, go for your midday coffee runs at Luckin Coffee, or swing by the fan-favourite fast food joint Jollibee for lunch. Dim sum lovers can head to Din Tai Fung, while Astons’ Western grub is also available right here. For the perfect comfort food this monsoon season, look no further than the mall’s Paradise Hotpot outlet.

Foodgle food court

The Punggol Coast Hawker Centre is also projected to open in the near future as well, with 40 food stalls and over 680 seats. In the meantime, if you’re hungry for hawker fare, you can make a quick detour to Foodgle Hub within the SIT campus. It’s a food court that’s quickly gaining traction for its affordable breakfast sets that you can pair with pretty views of Coney Island.

Keep an eye out for the new Punggol Coast Mall

With the addition of Punggol Coast Mall, those residing in the North-East are probably beaming at the sheer amount of shopping options they’ve got nearby. The question now is when those in newer estates can expect to get a similar outbreak of new malls. Yes, we hear you loud and clear Tengah residents, your time will come soon. Hopefully.

Best photo studios in Singapore

Gone are the days when family photoshoots used to be boring and extra formal. These days, you can take fun photos with your parents, friends, and even your pets at all types of creative photo studios in Singapore – be it a self-shoot studio, black and white vintage booth, or even inside a retro bar.

Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind vintage photo studio or photographers that specialise in classic wedding shoots, here are nine themed photo studios that might suit the creative vision you’re going for.

How to prepare for a photoshoot

If it’s your first time going for a photoshoot, here are a few fashion and grooming tips to keep in mind.

What outfit should I wear for a photoshoot?

Plan your outfits in advance so you aren’t a frazzled mess on the day of your photoshoot. If you’re holding this shoot with loved ones, consider going for a simple theme, such as picking a solid colour to wear so the photo looks cohesive.

We recommend bold or pastel hues like this red satin midi dress and salmon pink, pinstripe blazer for an extra pop of colour. Otherwise, you can go for neutral, earth-toned colours like this olive-green jumpsuit and khaki-toned shirt for a softer vibe.

If you’re not sure if your choice of colour will clash with the backdrop of your photoshoot, check in with the studio. They should be able to give you suggestions that’ll best match the theme you’re going for.

The night before your photoshoot, use a garment steamer to iron out wrinkles in your outfit. You can even pack your outfit in a garment bag then change at the studio to keep your clothes neat and tidy.

How do I look better for a photoshoot?

Skin prep before a photoshoot

Implement any new skincare routines at least 2 weeks before your photoshoot. This will give you time to see an improvement in your skin and correct any mishaps should you find yourself breaking out because of your new routine.

For starters, remove any makeup you wear with a facial oil cleanser then double cleanse with a fragrance-free face wash to prevent any skin irritations. Even out bumpy skin texture with a hydrating toner and follow with a facial moisturiser. You can also include a sheet mask to target specific problems, such dryness, enlarged pores, and sagging skin.

Skin prep on the day of photoshoot

You’ll want a clean base before makeup application so that it’ll last throughout the day. Start off with your regular skincare routine then follow up with a makeup primer to smoothen out the texture of your skin.

Keep your makeup base matte instead of dewy, as the latter might make your skin look oily under bright studio lights. Opt for a medium to full-coverage foundation for oily skin then press finishing powder to set everything in place. A setting spray will also help mattify shine and extend wear on your makeup.

Men – you’ll want to be properly groomed as well to look your best in your photos. Skip the razors at home and splurge on a shave and cut at a gentlemen’s barber for a dapper look. If you’re short on time, using an aftershave balm can prevent ingrown hairs and red bumps on the skin.

P.S. You can find all these products on Amazon Singapore, which is holding its annual Amazon Black Friday Sale from 21st November to 2nd December 2024. TSL readers, you can even enjoy $10 off a minimum $60 spend during this promotion period.

11. Hip Xiong Photo Studio

Vintage wet-plate photography via house calls only

Themed Photo Studios Hip Xiong Photo Studio

Unlike most photo studios that constantly evolve to reflect the current trends, Hip Xiong Photo Studio is, honestly, very dated – in a good way.

The studio specialises in wet plate photography – a style that was all the hype way back in the 1850s. In a nutshell, it’s a chemical process that turns a metal plate into a “film” to produce a blackened image. The results are rustic 19th-century-styled portraits, like the pics you might find in your grandparents’ drawers.

Themed Photo Studios Vintage Wet-Plate Photograph
Each 45-minute photo session gives you 1 plate to take home that will last hundreds of years.

Hip Xiong Photo Studio used to have a brick-and-mortar studio in Geylang but they now operate on a house call and event basis. They can set up just about anywhere, as long as there’s an accessible power point and a running water supply. After the shoot, you’ll even be able to watch the development of the tintype plate right before your eyes.

Price: From $600 for 1-2 pax 3-hour shoot (inclusive of setup and teardown)

Best moving services in Singapore

Moving houses can be an exciting adulting milestone, but hauling everything to your new home can also be daunting. Luckily, movers provide the muscle and experience many of us can’t even dream of matching.

Those who need a helping hand can hire a team of professionals who will handle everything from disassembly, packing, transport and even setup. But for those without any bulky items to move, you can simply hire a lorry and driver for a cost-effective DIY option. No matter what you choose, here are the top moving services in Singapore that can cater to your needs.

Tips & tricks for packing & moving in Singapore

Packing up your life to move into a new space can be exciting yet overwhelming. Here are some tips we have on how to make your move easier:

  • Avoid booking moving services during peak periods for cheaper rates. This includes weekends, the start and end of each month, and BTO key collection season.
  • Declutter before you start packing. There’ll be less to bring with you once you get rid of clothing you no longer wear, broken gadgets, and other junk you’ve collected over the years.
  • Take pictures of your electronic set-ups. If you’ve thrown out the manuals to your TV and Wi-Fi router, snap a pic of the wiring to make it easier to re-setup when you move. It also helps to tape wires to the device they belong to, so you spend less time trying to untangle a mess of wires.
  • Get packing boxes from Carousell. Not all moving companies provide complimentary boxes, and you might not always be able to get boxes from supermarkets and grocery stores. Instead, check platforms like Carousell and even Facebook Marketplace, where those who’ve already moved are likely to have cardboard boxes to give away.
  • Pack & organise boxes room-by-room. Start with the rooms you use the least, so it’ll cause less disruption to daily life. You’ll also want to colour-code your boxes, which will make it easier to sort them into the right rooms when you unload your moving truck.
  • Cushion the bottom & top of your boxes containing fragiles. This provides padding to absorb shock during the move. For extra protection, stack plates vertically and stuff glasses and bowls with newspaper or small towels to prevent breakage.
  • Pack an essentials bag for your first couple of days. Unpacking is just as tedious as moving, so it’ll be a while before you have all your things in the right place. Until then, live out of a suitcase packed with changes of clothes, chargers, toiletries, and toilet paper.

If you’re coming here for an errand, you can’t miss out on their bathroom essentials like the 3pcs Darlie Toothpaste Set ($2.95) and their 6pc shaver sets that only cost $1.

For those wondering why the products here are so cheap, it’s because they are imported from countries like Vietnam and Thailand where sourcing is more affordable, and many off-brand products are included too.

Top Singapore Pools outlets for Toto and 4D

If you’ve ever dreamt of becoming a millionaire, the quickest way is probably to hope to the heavens that you strike 4D or TOTO. ‘Course, it’s easier said than done. Many try to maximise their chances of winning by going to Singapore Pools outlets that have been “blessed by the Fortune God” or have good fengshui. But whatever you believe in, it’s best to heed what cannot be disproved – statistics.

Here are the top 10 lucky Singapore Pools outlets and authorised retailers for TOTO, ranked according to their winning frequencies from official sources, measured from October 2014 to now. You can also place your 4D bets at these places.

P.S. Before you dive straight in, here is a gentle reminder to bet within your means and gamble responsibly.

1. Delisia Agency Pte Ltd

It might look and have a name that sounds like one from a bakery but don’t be fooled – this place means serious business when it comes to TOTO. The store’s long snaking queues every Monday and Thursday and bright red signboard will indicate that this is where you come for the lottery – not cakes and buns.

If the stats are anything to go by, this branch has a whooping 18 jackpot prize winners under its belt.

Number of Jackpot Prize winners: 18
Number of Group 2 winners: 71

Address: 149 Rochor Rd, #B1-26 Fu Lu Shou Complex, Singapore 188425

2. Tong Aik Huat

Some say it’s all in the name, and Tong Aik Huat has already produced plenty of lucky winners. It’s been crowned #2 on this list for producing a grand total of 14 jackpot – or Group 1 winners – who’ve bid on the right numbers to take home the ultimate loot.

Even if the jackpot prize is way out of reach, many of us are more than happy just to get a slice of the pie and might be glad to know that this spot also has had 93 Group 2 wins, a.k.a consolation wins.

Other “lucky” places to place your bets

Official data from Singapore Pools aside, there are also some lucky outlets that are the people’s choice – that also means this list is based completely on hearsay:

  1. Eunos 7-Eleven at Blk 1A
  2. Chua Yan Kee
  3. Singapore Pools Choa Chu Kang Branch
  4. Ng Teo Guan
  5. 7-Eleven Yishun
  6. Singapore Pools Clementi N7 Branch
  7. Singapore Pools IMM Branch
  8. Singapore Pools Suntec City

Fun fact: Biggest TOTO win by a single punter was $12 million. The winning ticket was bought from NTUC FP Bukit Batok MRT Station, and he was the only punter who ran a QuickPick Ordinary Entry.

BONUS: Singapore Pools Account Betting Service

There’s bound to be a long snaking queue, especially during the big draws around the time of Chinese New Year. While many are willing to stand in queue for a chance at striking it big, head to the Singapore Pools Website instead if you’d prefer to skip the queues. You’ll need to register for an account online before being able to place bets online.

This online service has been responsible for the most number of wins to date, but bear in mind that it might be because there are simply more people using this service!

Most regularly drawn 4D numbers

Just like how location is a big deal for 4D and TOTO buyers, certain combinations of numbers are considered lucky due to the number of times they have been drawn in the past. Here are the most frequently drawn numbers in the last 30 decades:
