Best travel e-wallets in Singapore

Suffice to say that we enjoy the e-zy things in life – from e-commerce to travel eSIMS. These digital versions of everyday things and activities make our lives much more convenient and accessible. Adding on to the list of e-somethings are e-wallets, an online solution to those who have the tendency to lose their personal belongings.

These nifty electronic wallets basically provide the same functions as your physical wallet – like storing credit card information and making payments online and physically even when travelling. We’ve rounded up a list of e-wallets available for your consideration, so you no longer have to fumble around with actual cards.

Are digital wallets safe to use?

The digital wallets that are available in Singapore must be regulated under the Payment Service Act, and all e-wallets require a licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

It’s a strict process, and providers are required to submit thorough information regarding consumer protection, cybersecurity, and anti-money laundering policies before they’re awarded a legal licence to offer their services in Singapore. So, long story short, travel e-wallets in Singapore are certified safe to use.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt to be extra wary. You can always check if the e-wallets you use are licensed via the financial institution directory on the MAS website. You can see the licence type and the kinds of services the digital wallets provide.

What do I do if my e-wallet is compromised?

That said, it’s never 100% safe when dealing with digital transactions, so practice keeping track of your own accounts. If you find your e-wallets compromised, freeze or lock your cards, and immediately report all suspicious activities to the customer service team.

Are there hidden fees or charges when using e-wallets?

Most e-wallets do not have hidden fees or charges. Registering for an account is usually free unless stated otherwise or if the e-wallets have multiple plans, like Revolut.

However, you may be subjected to variable charges or transaction fees when sending money or making online foreign purchases. Companies are usually transparent about these rates to customers, and you can find well-detailed information on their websites.

Computers parts needed to build a gaming PC

1. Processor (CPU) – Brain of the computer that runs everything else

CPU

First off, you’re gonna want to decide on a CPU, or a central processing unit. In simplest terms, a CPU functions as your computer’s brain, as it’s responsible for processing instructions, performing logical and mathematical operations, and executing instructions that it is given.

A CPU’s performance varies based on a couple of factors. This includes the number of cores it has; the more cores a CPU has, the greater the number of instructions it can execute at a time. A CPU’s cache size also affects its performance – the bigger its cache, the less time the CPU’s processor has to wait for instructions to be fetched.

When it comes to settling on a CPU, there’re really only 2 brands to base your build off of: AMD and Intel. There’s not much of a difference between the 2, so it’s really up to you to decide if you’re team AMD or team Intel. Regardless of which you pick, here are a couple of options you can consider:

Entry-Level: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G (from $178)
Reliable and cost-effective, with decent integrated graphics if a GPU upgrade is planned later.

Mid-Range: Intel Core i5-12600K (from $224.03)
Great for gaming and streaming, with solid multitasking performance.

High-End: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (from $697.01) or Intel Core i7-13700K (from $584)
Excellent for high-performance gaming and streaming.

2. Graphics Card (GPU) – Renders images smoothly to prevent lag

GPUImage credit: NVIDIA

You’ve probably seen this acronym thrown around a lot in the gaming sphere. A computer’s GPU, or graphics card, is the component that’s responsible for handling graphics-related work, such as rendering and displaying images, videos, and animations.

Although some PCs come prebuilt with an integrated graphics card that can support basic graphic needs, you probably will have to go for a dedicated GPU for lag-free gameplay if the games you play have very detailed graphics. When shopping for GPUs, the 2 main brands you’d want to keep an eye out for are NVIDIA and AMD; here are some you can take a look at:

Entry-Level: NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super (from $277.33) or AMD RX 6600 (from $294.22)
Great for 1080p gaming on medium settings.

Mid-Range: NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti (from $591.20) or AMD RX 6750 XT (from $481.06)
Runs most games smoothly at 1080p or 1440p on high settings.

High-End: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti (from $1,361.44) or AMD RX 7900 XT (from $696)
Perfect for ultra settings at 1440p or even 4K gaming.

3. Motherboard – Circuit board that powers internal components

Motherboard

An essential piece of your build to make everything tick is the motherboard. It’s the main circuit board in a computer that connects all of its internal components in order for them to communicate with one another, and provides power to them. The motherboard is essentially what the rest of your parts within the PC plugs into to run.

There are different types of motherboards on the market, each designed to be compatible with specific builds and sizes. Here are some that you can consider:

Entry-Level: B450 (from $160.36) for AMD builds or B660 (from $141.22) for Intel builds.

Mid-Range: B550 (from $134.51) for AMD builds or Z690 (from $269.02) for Intel builds. Supports faster RAM and more expandability.

High-End: X670E (from $369.52) for AMD builds or Z790 (from $266.62) for Intel builds. Best connectivity options and features for future-proofing.

4. Memory (RAM) – Short-term memory used to run applications

RAM

And we’re back to the acronyms – RAM, or random access memory is your computer’s short term memory, where data is stored that the CPU, GPU, or any other component needs in order to run applications.

It’s measured in bytes, and as far as gaming is concerned, we recommend fitting your build with at least 16GB of RAM. Go for 32GB if you plan on running modern, graphics-heavy titles at a decent amount of FPS (frames per second). For those with AMD builds, it’s recommended to get RAM that has a speed of 3200MHz or higher, while Intel builds ask for RAM speeds of 3600Hz or higher.

Adding RAM is also a pretty reliable way to improve your PCs performance, so feel free to buy extra sticks of RAM in the future to stick into your build to remedy lag issues. That said, here are some options you can consider:

Entry-Level: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 (from $47.89)

Mid-Range or High-End: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4/DDR5 (from $142.69)

5. Storage – Long-term storage for operating system, files & programmes

Computer storage

You’ll be needing a space to stash away all your downloaded games onto your PC, and that’s where computer storage comes into play. It allows a computer to store and access files and programmes, keeping them intact even after your PC is switched off.

When looking for storage, it’s really a matter of how big the files you’re planning to store on your hard drive are. If you’re also planning on using the computer to edit raw photos or videos then getting a bigger hard drive would make sense. The 2 main types of computer storage to choose from when building a gaming PC are HDDs (hard disk drives) and SSDs (solid state drives).

For all levels: 1TB NVMe SSD (from $78.40)

Add on (if need more storage): 2TB HDD (from $95.61)

6.  Power Supply Unit (PSU) – To power all components of the computer

PSU

Like its name suggests, the PSU, or power supply unit, is what’s going to be providing the power for your build. In simple terms, it does so by converting the alternating current from a wall socket to a low voltage, direct current to operate your PC’s components, such as its motherboard and CPU.

The main thing to keep in mind when shopping for a PSU is its wattage rating. More complex builds will require a higher wattage compared to simpler ones, but if you’re unsure how much wattage your build needs to run, you can use a power supply calculator to find out. Here are a few PSUs to choose from, each with a different wattage rating to choose from:

Entry-Level: 550W 80+ Bronze-rated (from $86.98)
Mid-Range: 650W 80+ Gold-rated (from $236.60)
High-End: 750W+ 80+ Platinum-rated (from $287.20)

7. Case – Holds everything in place

PC case

You’ll also want to get a PC case to house all your computer parts and to hold them in place. There are a few sizes to choose from, so get the one that best suits your needs

Mini-ITX: Smallest case size, best for people looking for builds that take up minimal space while still being able to accommodate a decent-sized graphics card.

Micro-ATX: Smaller than a full-sized PC, but larger than a Mini ITX.

Mid-tower: The most popular size gamers go for, able to fit larger motherboards, can house more complex CPU cooling systems, multiple GPUs, and lots of computer storage.

Full-tower: The largest case size, practically able to fit components of every size at the cost of being quite bulky.

When deciding on a case, pick one case with good airflow and cable management options. Some brands to consider include NZXT, Fractal Design, and Corsair as they offer solid entry-to-high-end cases of varying sizes. Cases are also where you can get creative, as they come in a variety of styles; go for flashy RGB ones for maximum eye candy, or keep it simple with a minimalist design.

Mini-ITX (from $99)
Micro-ATX (from $79)
Mid-tower (from $134)
Full-tower (from $180)

8. CPU cooler – Brings down temperature of computer components

CPU cooler

Things can get pretty hot within your PC when you’re running hardware-intensive games or programmes, and so you’ll need a CPU cooler to remedy any overheating. It’s a component that uses fans, radiators, and other elements to draw heat away from vital parts of your computer such as its CPU.

CPU coolers come in many forms, such as air coolers which use a heat sink to disperse heat, and liquid coolers that use a liquid instead to dissipate heat. When choosing a CPU cooler, do make sure that it’s compatible with your motherboard and CPU’s socket type.

Entry-level: Use the stock cooler if your CPU comes with one.

Mid-Range: Cooler Master Hyper 212 (from $49)

High-End: AIO liquid cooler (from $109)

9. Computer monitor – Displays running OS & software

Monitor - How to build gaming PC

Of course, you’ll need a monitor for you to see what’s going on when you boot up your rig. They come in a variety of types, but modern monitors typically use an LCD display with an LED backlight. Size is also another important factor to consider, as you’ll want to make sure you have enough desk space to fit your monitor.

Depending on your budget, some monitors perform better than others. More expensive monitors have a higher refresh rate that result in buttery smooth graphics, and they also might have a sharper display resolution for better viewing.

Entry-Level: MSI Optix G244F E2 (from $197.67)

Mid-Range: Prism+ W240 (from $249)

High-End: BenQ EW3280U (from $869.50)

10. Operating System – Software that runs hardware & applications

Last but not least, every computer needs an OS, or operating system, to function. It’s a software programme that manages a computer’s hardware and software, and is what allows users to interact with the computer through a user interface (UI).

Almost all gaming rigs out there default to using the Windows OS, as it has the best compatibility and performance with games and is convenient to use.

Download Microsoft Windows 11 OS.

To install Windows 11 onto your PC, select the Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices onto a USB flash drive that will allow you to boot onto a computer built from scratch.

Steps to build your own computer

Just because you have the parts, doesn’t mean you actually have a working computer yet. Don’t worry, we show you just how to put the pieces together, as well as how to troubleshoot common issues.

1. Prepare your workspace, parts & tools

Once you’ve gathered all the various components to build your very own gaming PC, it’s time to put everything together. To prevent any mishaps, prepare a clean, static-free workspace by touching something metal to remove any static charge.

Unless you want to fiddle with tiny screws with your bare hands, you’ll also need some tools to help you out; here are some that are handy to have by your side while building your PC:

Tools needed:

2. Install the CPU

Installing CPU - How to build gaming PCImage credit: IT services EU via Pexels

  • Open the motherboard CPU socket.
  • Align the CPU correctly by lining up the triangular alignment markers (usually found on upper left for AMD CPUs, and lower left for Intel CPUs) on the CPU with the motherboard’s socket.
  • Gently place it in and secure the latch.

Issue: The CPU won’t fit, or the pins get bent.

Troubleshooting

  • Double-check the triangular alignment markers on the CPU and socket. Never force the CPU into the socket.
  • If pins bend, gently straighten them with a credit card or a mechanical pencil without the lead.

3. Install the RAM

Installing RAM - How to build gaming PC

  • Insert RAM sticks into the motherboard slots, ensuring they’re fully clipped in.
  • No gold contacts should be showing – it might take quite a bit of force to slot them in, and they will pop in with a clicking sound.
  • Use dual-channel slots (usually every other slot) for optimal performance.

Issue: RAM doesn’t click into place, or the system doesn’t boot.

Troubleshooting:

  • Ensure the notch on the RAM matches the slot. Push firmly until you hear a click.
  • If the system doesn’t boot, check the motherboard manual for the correct slots (dual-channel memory requires specific slots, usually alternating ones).

4. Install the storage (SSD)

Installing SSD - How to build gaming PCImage credit: Seagate

  • Locate the M.2 slot on your motherboard. It’s usually labelled and might have a small screw already in place.
  • Remove the screw if it’s present.
  • Align the SSD’s connector edge at an angle, push it down until it lies flat on the motherboard, and screw it in place.

Issue: SSD or HDD not detected.

Troubleshooting:

  • For M.2 SSDs, ensure they are installed in the correct slot (some slots may disable others due to motherboard limitations).
  • For SATA drives, check the cable connections to both the motherboard and PSU.
  • Enable the drive in BIOS if it isn’t automatically detected.

5. Mount the motherboard

  • Place standoffs in your case where the motherboard screws will go.
  • Align the motherboard with the standoffs, then secure it with screws.
  • Be sure not to overtighten the screws

Issue: Short circuits from missing standoffs or misalignment.

Troubleshooting:

  • Install all standoffs in the case before mounting the motherboard.
  • Ensure the motherboard’s backplate (I/O shield) is aligned correctly.

6. Install the Power Supply (PSU)

  • Mount the PSU in the PSU bay which is usually at the bottom of the case, on its back
  • Route the cables through the cable management grommets.

7. Install the GPU

Connecting GPU - How to build gaming PC

  • Insert the GPU into the PCIe slot on the motherboard.
  • Secure the GPU with screws and connect power cables from the PSU if needed.

Issue: GPU doesn’t fit or the system doesn’t detect it.

Troubleshooting:

  • Remove any unnecessary expansion slot covers on the case.
  • Ensure the GPU is fully seated in the PCIe slot and secured with screws.
  • If the system doesn’t detect the GPU, ensure the power cables are properly connected and that the monitor is plugged into the GPU, not the motherboard.

8. Connect the cables

  • Connect the PSU to the motherboard, by attaching its main power cable which is usually the one with the largest plug to the long rectangular port on the motherboard.
  • Connect the PSU to the rest of your computer’s components such as the CPU, storage, and any other peripherals.

Issue: Components don’t power on.

Troubleshooting:

  • Double-check all connections:
    • 24-pin connector to the motherboard.
    • CPU power cable (4-pin or 8-pin).
    • GPU power cable (6-pin, 8-pin, or more, depending on your card).
  • Make sure the power supply switch is turned on, and the wall outlet works.

Issue: Power button or case lights don’t work.

Troubleshooting:

  • Refer to the motherboard manual for the correct pin configuration for the power/reset buttons and LED connectors.
  • Double-check that the small connectors are inserted the right way (the positive and negative polarity matters for LEDs).

9. Install additional cooling (optional)

Installing CPU coolers - How to build gaming PC

  • For better airflow, add fans to the case (e.g., 2 front intake, 1 rear exhaust).

Issue: CPU or GPU temperatures are too high.

Troubleshooting:

  • Ensure the CPU cooler is properly seated and secured. Reapply thermal paste if necessary.
  • Verify all case fans are spinning and oriented correctly (intake at the front/bottom, exhaust at the rear/top).

10. Power up and install the OS

  • Connect your PC to a monitor and plug in peripherals.
  • Enter BIOS by pressing F2 or DEL on startup to check that all components are recognized.
  • Install Windows, then download drivers and gaming software.

Issue: The system powers on but doesn’t boot (no display, beep codes).

Troubleshooting:

  • Check BIOS for Error Codes: Some motherboards have debug LEDs or beep codes to indicate what’s wrong. Refer to the manual.
  • Reseat Components: Remove and reinstall the CPU, RAM, and GPU to ensure proper contact.
  • Reset CMOS: Use the jumper or remove the motherboard battery for a few seconds to reset BIOS settings.

Singtel’s 5G Tourist SIMs pack up to 10 times faster speeds than other mobile carriers, allowing you to download 4K videos in a snap and stay connected, even in the crowds. The bandwidth strength of their 5G connection means you can enjoy smooth video calls, or streaming of music and shows without all those pesky lags. And if you’re doing any online shopping or remitting of money, you’ll be pleased to know that the network is 100% secure.

The fully digital nature of an eSIM allows you to toggle between your original SIM and Tourist eSIM whenever you want.

Skip the queues and save yourself the hassle by getting a Tourist eSIM online, even before you touch down on Changi Airport’s tarmac. If you still prefer the traditional method, fret not.

Google Chat hacks

There are several names that get thrown around when it comes to instant messaging platforms for the workplace; you’ve got Slack, Rocket, Microsoft Teams, and even regular consumer-based big names like Telegram and Whatsapp. You might have noticed that Google Chat’s popularity has been on the rise, which isn’t surprising given that it’s backed by Google itself.

Whether you’re getting into the platform fresh or have been using it for a while but only for the surface-level basics, these Google Chat hacks will level up your workplace communication game.

What is Google Chat?

What exactly is Google Chat? Developed by Google, it was released in 2017 as a communication service primarily for business applications.

You may recall an instant messaging platform called Google Hangouts, which is actually Google Chat’s predecessor. Google Chat is now available for free public usage, and you can even make voice and video calls within the desktop and mobile apps.

Is Google Chat free?

To use Google Chat, all you need is a Google account. It’s free to use the messaging, voice call, and video call functions within the app to link up with other Google accounts. However, Google Chat also has a function where you can call your contacts directly via the phone number. These may incur fees based on your own telco’s subscription plan for outgoing calls, so be sure to check.

For business owners who want additional functions for their work teams, there are Google Chat business plans from $8/month. Benefits include shared cloud storage among users, robust security and management tools, and support resources to combat technical issues.

Is Google Chat good?

For those who’ve yet to join the platform, you might be wondering if Google Chat is good and worth signing up for. Well, it has over 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store alone. While the Apple App Store does not disclose app download stats to the public, just know that across both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, it has a solid rating of 4.6 stars.

Users like that the platform is sleek, secure, and offers seamless integration with other Google apps like Meets and Tasks. If you’re already using the Google ecosystem for tools like Calendar and Contacts, these will all be synced to Google Chats without you having to manually input info across apps and software.

Plus, Google Chat has several functionalities which tap on AI for convenience – from template responses to curated conversation recaps. These Google Chat Hacks will help you get even more out of the desktop and mobile versions.

1. Set personalised statuses with emojis

You know how people set makeshift statuses on other messaging platforms like Telegram, where they write a disclaimer in their display name or doodle an out-of-office message on their profile pic? These often go unnoticed, and people end up bothering folks who are on leave despite their attempts to publicise their AFK status.

Google Chat Hacks Personalised Status
The status is highly customisable, with the full suite of emojis at your disposal. It’s kind of giving MSN Messenger status liners from back in the day.
Image adapted from: Google Chats

Google Chat has clear status logos indicating if someone is online, away, or on Do Not Disturb mode. These are shown right next to the contact name, so anyone shooting you a message should be able to spot it.

On top of that, you can also set statuses that appear at the bottom of the chat display, right above the form where you type in messages. The visibility ensures a slim likelihood that whoever was about to disturb your peace misses the disclaimer.

How to set personalised statuses on Google Chats:

  • On desktop

Open the status dropdown menu in the top-right corner, and click “Add a status”.

  • On mobile

Click the hamburger icon in the top-left corner to open the navigation menu. Click “Add a status” and personalise your status and emoji in the “Write your own” field.

2. Allocate specific Do Not Disturb timeframes

Speaking of protecting your peace and not receiving unwanted messages, keeping pesky work notifications at bay during your downtime is super important for preventing work burnout.

Most messaging platforms allow you to mute certain conversations for a set amount of time, but this is a dangerous game as it usually shifts the convo right to the bottom of your list. This means you run the risk of completely forgetting about the chat’s existence, and may end up missing important updates while the mute is in effect.

Google Chat Hacks Do Not Disturb

Another common tactic is to toggle notifications on and off, but this can be taxing when done manually. Google Chat goes a step further with the customisation, allowing you to set specific dates and time frames ahead of time, instead of right before you want the mute to kick in.

That way, you don’t have to worry about manually toggling notifications just as you’re about to go on vacay – just set it and forget it. For those with recurring AFK periods like flexi work arrangements, you can set fixed Do Not Disturb schedules that automatically kick into action.

How to set Do Not Disturb periods on Google Chats:

  • On desktop

Open the “Settings” icon in the top-right corner, and scroll down to the “Do Not Disturb schedules” section of the menu.

  • On mobile

Click the hamburger icon in the top-left corner to open the navigation menu. Click “Settings” and “Do Not Disturb”. From there, you can choose a preset timing or set your own one-off or recurring period to not receive notifications.

3. Use Smart Reply messages for quicker responses

Google Chat Hacks Smart Reply Responses

If you find yourself typing certain words or phrases frequently in your day to day, you can save precious time by enabling Google Chat’s Smart Reply templates instead. You might find the function familiar – it’s similar to the AI-generated suggested responses usually provided on Gmail and Google Doc comments.

These messages are generated based on the context of the existing conversation, as well as autocomplete technology and predictive writing. They can range from short and simple acknowledgments like “Ok” and “Thanks”, to even the thumbs up or grinning emojis if you’d like to add some visual pizzazz.

To make things even more efficient? The Smart Reply options even show up in your mobile notifications, so you can choose one and fire that response off without even having to open the Google Chat app.

How to enable Smart Reply on Google Chats:

4. Get email notifications for messages you might have missed

If you’re the type to get anxious over missing out important messages in the sea of back and forth, this will set your mind at ease. Google Chats consolidates unopened messages and sends a daily recap to your Gmail inbox. It’s like a handy newsletter update of conversations you may not have had the bandwidth to open during your online hours.

This overview gives you peace of mind that you haven’t missed out on important updates, and saves you the trouble of manually sifting through the list of convos.

How to enable email notifications for unread messages on Google Chats:

  • On desktop

  • On mobile

Email notifications for unread messages need to be toggled and off via Google Chat web or the desktop app.

5. Sync to-dos to Google Tasks for easy tracking

Google Chat Hacks Tasks

Great news for those who use Google Tasks as a digital to-do list: Google Chats automatically syncs assignments and action items to Google Tasks, allowing easy access without you having to manually create new entries.

Everyone involved in the team project will be able to keep tabs on task progress as a glance, and assignees can ask questions or provide updates in the chat itself. This cross-platform integration keeps info and resources streamlined, and there’s a “Shared” tab within the Google Chat group where you can easily retrieve files and links exchanged by the members.

How to sync to Google Tasks via Google Chats:

  • On desktop

Likewise, the “Tasks” tab can be found at the top of the group chat, under the group chat name.

6. Tailor results using Advanced Search

Harnessing the renowned prowess of Google searches and how tailored they can be, Google Chat allows precise search results with Advanced Search filters. This is a godsend for those seeking out specific info or multimedia amidst floods of chat history across months and years.

Here are the filters you can use to break down your search query:

From: Messages sent from specific people.
Said in: Messages said in a specific conversation or space.
Date: Messages sent during a specific date range.
Has file: Messages that include documents, spreadsheets, slides, and more.
Has link: Messages that include links.
Mentions me: Messages that mention you.
Only conversations I’m in: Messages from conversations that you’re a member of.

You can also search the results based on:

Most relevant: Sort messages by how relevant they are to your search text.
Most recent: Sort messages by how recent they are.

How to use Advanced Search on Google Chats:

7. Enable Conversation Summary for TL;DR recaps

We all know how dreadful it is to come online to a barrage of messages, having to sift through all of them to make sure you don’t catch no ball. Conversation Summary takes messages and creates a concise yet comprehensive recap of the preceding back and forth.

To help the AI tech improve over time, you can take a second to rate the summary points on whether they were accurate and helpful.

How to enable Conversation Summary on Google Chats:

  • On desktop

Open the “Settings” icon in the top-right corner, and scroll down to the “Conversation summary” section of the menu.

  • On mobile

8. Avoid spamming the chat by using the Reply In Thread function

Google Chat Hacks Reply In Thread

The previous point touched on floods of messages, now you can be the change you want to see in the world. Google Chat has a nifty Reply In Thread function where active participants can have a little sub-conversation that opens up in a separate thread, thereby not spamming everyone else in the same group chat.

Just look at the example above. If not for this function, I would’ve been pinged over 99 times for exchanges that are of no immediate concern to me. But should I ever need to reference those messages, the thread is there for me to access and chime in accordingly.

How to enable Reply In Thread on Google Chats:

  • On desktop

Hover on the message that you want to reply in thread to, and click the spool-of-thread icon.

  • On mobile

Click on a message to open the in-chat thread. Alternatively, you can press and hold on a message to open up the navigation menu, and click “Reply in thread”.

9. Create quick polls to get everyone’s input

Google Chat Hacks Poll
Image adapted from: Google Chats

Whether you’re deciding where to go for lunch or asking the team for their meeting availability, a poll can be a lot more efficient than posing a question to the group and waiting for individual messages to roll in.

Google Chats has a quick poll function where you can craft your question and set corresponding MCQ options. This is made possible via a third-party integration, and the entire group chat will get to see voters’ choices in bar graph form.

How to create polls on Google Chats:

  • On desktop

Google Chat Polls

Click on the dropdown menu arrow beside your group chat name. Click on “Apps and integrations” and add the Absolute Poll app to the group chat. Activate it and key in your question and answers.

  • On mobile

Use Google Chat web or desktop to add the Absolute Poll app first. From there, you’ll be able to select it from the list of “Installed Apps” on the mobile app. When you want to create a poll, click the “+” icon at the bottom-left corner, next to the message input field.

Bonus: Google Chat Easter eggs

It’s always fun to inject your messages with some cuteness and personality. Google Chat has a list of Easter egg codes which you can type and, when sent, will automatically transform into assigned emoticons.

These range from quirky and whimsical – like the silly shrug and magic wand casting a spell of flowers, to a quick and effective expression of frustration – the table flip. They even have an Easter egg of Jake and Finn from Adventure Time, and it looks eerily accurate even though it’s just made up of keyboard symbols.

Keep this list handy for your copying and pasting amusement:

/algebraic | ( •◡•)| (❍ᴥ❍ʋ)
/dealwithit or /sunglasses “( •_•)
( •_•)>⌐■-■
(⌐■_■)”
/disapprove ಠ_ಠ
/facepalm (-‸ლ)

/tableflip (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
/tableback ┬─┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ)
/yuno ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

Get the most out of your usage with these Google Chat hacks

From personalised fun to AI-driven efficiency, Google Chat has a suite of functions you can take advantage of for your day-to-day comms. It certainly helps that everything is synced up with the Google ecosystem, so you don’t have to fuss around with separate apps just to get your contacts, calendar, and to-do list in check.

With your workplace messaging processes optimised, you’re one step closer to turbo-charging your productivity and standing out to your boss.

Asking AI To Predict What Ramadan Bazaars Will Be Like In 100 Years https://thesmartlocal.com/read/ramadan-bazaar-ai-predictions/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 01:00:45 +0000 https://thesmartlocal.com/?p=327832 Oh don’t mind me, I’m just fighting over dendeng with an alien.

AI prediction of Ramadan bazaars in the future

Singapore always comes through with her Ramadan bazaars and pasar malams, whether it’s the ones at Geylang Serai, Kampung Gelam, or scattered over the island.

Excitement fills the air whenever the fasting month rolls around, and the bazaars set up shop with delicious food, trinkets and snacks. But what would these markets look like in, say, a decade, or even a century?

We asked ChatGPT to describe what Ramadan bazaars in the future would be like in Singapore, and while we were at it, we asked DALL·E to generate images as well.

These were the prompts we gave DALL·E:

  1. I’d like to generate an image of what a Ramadan bazaar in Singapore would look like in X years’ time. I’d like it to be realistic, in a 4:3 aspect ratio and have a detailed variety of stalls and customers.
  2. Could you please generate an image of what a Ramadan bazaar stall in Singapore will look like in 10 years? The aspect ratio should be 4:3 – a picture of a single stall with the owner, the food they’re selling, and maybe a customer, but not necessarily.
  3. I wanted to ask if you could generate an image of what a Ramly burger stall might look like in 10 years?

2034 (10 years from now)

Ramadan Bazaar - 10 years Ramadan BazaarImage credit: DALL·E

10 years is not too far away from where we’re at now, and that is reflected in the predictions that the AI tools came up with. The new bazaars would be digitised with digital? signs and AR menus, so people would be able to know exactly what they wanted to order.

There would also be an AI bot for smart crowd management, like the M.A.T.A.R. police robots, which could barricade an area before it became too crowded. Another solution to reduce crowds would be activating drone deliveries. This way, you could avoid the migraine-inducing queues, and not worry about losing your ticket.

Ramadan Bazaar - 10 years robot bazaar stall

The stalls would also be manned by robots – get yourself a new, colour-analysed carpet from an automaton seller or bergedil, freshly fried by a cyber-chef.

Speaking of bazaar grub, ChatGPT also predicts an uptick in the accessibility of lab-grown meats. Imagine munching on chicken satay or a beef Ramly burger, without any harm done to our furry friends and the planet.

2074 (50 years from now)

Ramadan Bazaar - 50 years Ramadan bazaarImage credit: DALL·E

Germaphobes rejoice – AI predicts that we will have entered the era of flying vehicles by 2074. There’ll be no more elbow rubs with sweaty strangers, as you can just wait in your flying pod. You could even take it up a notch by attending the bazaar remotely, and getting your food delivered via VR drone, but where’s the fun in that?

Ramadan Bazaar - 50 years bazaar stall

So what would the munchies look like? Much like how GPT generates recipes, AI would be used to generate customised versions of bazaar-favourite dishes and beverages. You won’t have to be paiseh when you ask for less chilli in your mee goreng.

Ramadan Bazaar - 50 years robot bazaar stall

Sustainability and efficiency would be a developing focus at these 2074 bazaars. We’d see even more robot vendors and chefs. This could mean shorter queue times and longer opening hours – yay all around.

Ramadan Bazaar - 50 years burger machine

Technology would have developed so much that there is zero wastage in food preparation, and waste management is a breeze by this point.

2124 (100 years from now)

Ramadan Bazaar - 100 years bazaarImage credit: DALL·E

Full speed ahead: we are now in 2124, a century ahead in time, and what do we have in store for Ramadan bazaars? According to ChatGPT, this is the age of space.

Expect to see extraterrestrial ingredients, and textiles harvested from Mars or even further out in the galaxy. Why stop at just products? Play carnival games against celestial creatures, with no telekinetic powers allowed. E.T. will definitely be phoning home after he’s tried apam balik, telling his family to sail to Earth with all haste.

Ramadan Bazaar - 100 years Ramadan bazaar stall

Inviting otherworldly beings also brings their technology into our world. Picture a steaming hot plate of food, teleported right onto your hands, or mere molecules transforming into your favourite bazaar bites – maybe with a side of Martian mayo?

Perhaps alien technology would also allow stalls to smoke out scathing reviews by turning the reviewers into fries. Hmm … Maybe we should stick to cease-and-desist letters.

Ramadan Bazaar - 100 years Ramly Burger

The physical bazaar itself would see its biggest change, with stalls imagined as restaurant-like buildings rather than tents or food trucks. The entire bazaar could be its own mobile zone, free to grow itself and rearrange its configurations based on factors such as crowds, weather, space constraints, and event schedules. Think Diagon Alley on steroids.

2524 (500 years from now)

In a surprising turn of events for an AI, Chat GPT gave us two different options as to what Ramadan bazaars may look like in 500 years: Hyperspace or Dystopia.

The hyperspace era sees Ramadan bazaars being based on their own planets. Yup, an entire planet just dedicated to Ramadan bazaars. With 500 more years of extraterrestrial explorations by this time, every universe or planet would have come up with their own iterations of a Ramadan bazaar. AI predicts that all of these would be consolidated onto a single planet.

Does this mean that other festivals, like Christmas or Chinese New Year, get their own planets too?

Ramadan Bazaar - 500 years bazaar stall

One interesting advancement of 2524 was how food would be prepared through quantum science and molecules. This means dishes from the past could be recreated exactly as they were meant to be, using the very ingredients they were prepared with, in that very age. Imagine: you would be able to have rendang the exact way your ancestors ate it, with lamb and spices direct from the 15th century.

Ramadan Bazaar - 500 years Space Ramly burger

And of course, we’ve got to have our astronaut Ramly Pakcik making fresh hot burgers for us. It seems that in DALL.E’s imagined future, we will all be dining in spacesuits al fresco – or would that be al spazio now?

On the other hand, ChatGPT? says that technology will have advanced so far that we will be able to attend the bazaars just by sending our consciousness there in the form of Avatars (pun intended).

Ramadan Bazaar - 500 years dystopian Ramadan bazaarImage credit: DALL·E

On the flip side, ChatGPT’s doomsday scenario foresees a world that’s fallen into post-tech dystopia – the aftermath of revolutions or the earth finally collapsing from the effects of global warming. Because of this, the bazaar would be scaled back, and more closely resemble bazaars from ages past.

Ramadan Bazaar - 500 years dystopian bazaar stall

You’d likely find ramshackle stalls put together with scavenged material; the offerings would revert to handmade versions. There would, of course, be technological remnants from before the tech downfall, such as robot vendors and cooking equipment.

Snacks and products would likely be limited due to sparse resources from economic downturns and unstable political environments.

Ramadan Bazaar - 500 years dystopian Ramly burger

The bazaars would have to go underground because of a possible authoritarian government, with vendors and customers even having to wear camouflage for safety. ChatGPT even said the bazaars might have to be conducted online if conditions like air quality and UV have worsened by that point.

Peering into the future of Ramadan bazaars

Some of these predictions might sound outlandish and impossible, but imagine telling your great-great-great grandparents that chilli crab churros are a thing at bazaars now. Ramadan bazaars have transformed, right before our eyes, from religious celebratory gatherings to trendy hotspots for shopping and IG-worthy food.

Interestingly, there was an underlying constant behind all of  AI’s predictions – Ramadan bazaars are a cultural institution with rich value to society. Whatever era we’re in, be it spectating robot cage battles or jamming with guitar-playing uncles, the Ramadan bazaars would always be a showcase of culture, traditions and art.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity

In the past few years, AI, or Artificial Intelligence has gone from fiction to a spooky reality of whether it will replace us. Why even write this article if AI will take over journalism anyway?

Luckily, AI isn’t perfect. Its errors, like 7-fingered humans and poor grammar, prove that the human touch still can’t be replaced. Besides, you will still have to provide rather specific instructions for the AI to work, so it’s still a collaborative effort which you can control to some extent.

That’s not to say that you can’t keep AI handy when it comes to dreary tasks like paraphrasing and transcribing. On that note, we’ve compiled a list of artificial intelligence tools for productivity so AI can be your best buddy, not your nemesis.

What do I need to know before using AI tools?

AI tools can be a great resource, whether you’re asking for the basic things to do in Singapore or asking for a recipe. But sometimes, they’re not always the most reliable. This is because artificial intelligence trains itself on data that already exists. The existing data could be outdated, false, or made with ill intent.

There is also the issue that AI can’t tell human nuances apart such as sarcasm, parodies, and impersonations, so there are bound to be errors from that too.

Ethically, AI has also come under fire for where its training data comes from and whether it steals ideas and works from human artists.

What is a GPT?

Probably the buzzword of our time, GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, which is a type of advanced computer.

Generative means that the computer can create new items, like writing a story or poem, or even answer in its own words. Pre-trained comes from the way the computer does this by scanning and going through large amounts of data. Transformer refers to how the computer changes the inputted information into something different.

Think of GPT as your nerdy friend who has read every book in the world, and can answer any question you have at the drop of a hat.

1. Pi.ai

An updated, more personable version of ChatGPT

For those of you who have tried out GPTs before, you’ve likely rolled your eyes countless times encountering the error message that “as of my last update in [year], this information does not exist” when you seek information about current topics. Let that be a problem of the past with Pi.ai, a GPT that aims to be the most up-to-date out there.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Pi.ai on mobile phone
Enter a prompt or get started with their suggested guides.
Image adapted from: Syarihan Sean

Pi.ai can answer questions about the latest films, current affairs, or even find hidden places in Singapore with more clarity, as compared to a regular search engine. Unlike other GPTs, Pi.ai ends most answers with a question which prompts you to give more thought to what is said. These also serve as leading questions so you might find other related information.

Do keep in mind that Pi.ai answers in continuous prose most of the time, so you’d still have to organise the answers yourself. It also doesn’t have functions like creating bullet points or tables. Like with any other AI tool, you’ll still have to fact-check – don’t take everything that a GPT tells you to be true.

Try Pi.ai

2. Perplexity.ai

Get real sources & citations for your papers

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to ask an AI for sources you can quote in your papers. However, these frequently lead to the dreaded 404 error code – or broken links. You won’t have to worry for long though because Perplexity.ai is an AI that will present you with legitimate sources for your papers.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Perplexity AI

Aside from doing its regular job of working like a GPT, this AI’s superpower is its ability to provide you with real sources, and will even come up with in-text citations from them. Perplexity also comes up with image and video sources that complement the prompt.

Of course, like with most other GPTs, you should still double-check the sources. Even if they do exist, not all sources are trustworthy.

Try Perplexity.ai

3. Adobe Firefly

A free ethical image generator

You may have seen wacky AI-generated images online, like Singapore icons as Pop Mart characters, or some that you can’t believe aren’t real.

Some of these images, especially those created by free image generators, can be of low quality or stolen from other artists’ works. Adobe Firefly, however, trains itself on royalty-free stock photos or those that are in the public domain.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Adobe FireflyImages that Firefly generated based on the prompt: Hawker centre with food stalls on a spaceship in the future with customers in the background.
Image adapted from: Adobe Firefly

Enter a prompt into Adobe Firefly, and it will generate 4 options for you to choose from. There are also other settings you can toggle to refine your search, including style, how realistic you want it to be, and coloured filters.

You can even scan and upload a 2D sketch into Firefly to turn your sketch into an image, or upload a style reference to personalise the generated images.

Try Adobe Firefly

4. SlidesGo

Create entire slideshow presentations with a single prompt

The only occasion when creating a slideshow presentation is worth your time is when you’re having a ‘Roast Your Ex’ night. Use SlidesGo’s AI presentation generator for everything else.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Slides Go
We asked SlidesGo to create a presentation on easy recipes for college students, with a futuristic template.

This tool can create an entire slideshow based on your prompt and choice of template. It can even generate some text and AI images for you.

We did find, on testing, that the images are based on the template rather than the prompt, so you’d have to add relevant pictures yourself. You would also need to fill in more specific content, graphs and numbers for your presentation to be complete. At the very least, it gets you more than halfway there.

Try SlidesGo

5. ChatGPT

Create tables & get feedback for your papers

Even if you’re not the most well-versed with AI, you’ve probably heard of ChatGPT, the OG AI tool. Recently, though, the free version has been losing points – whether it’s because its data is only updated till 2022, or because its writing can easily be identified as “AI writing”.

Don’t toss it just yet, as there are still some cool things you can do with ChatGPT that are hard to find in other software. It can convert long trails of data into tables or multiple-choice questions for easy revision. You can also ask ChatGPT to grade and give feedback on papers based on a given rubric so that you have some idea of where you’re headed.

Try ChatGPT

6. Quillbot

Paraphrase complicated research papers

If you’re pulling your hair out over what lengthy research papers mean, Quillbot has got you covered. This tool focuses on paraphrasing complex works and quotes to allow you to focus on the most important parts of a paper.

There is also a synonym slider that uses AI to give you suggestions on alternative words that may fit into the context of what you’re writing about, and add variety to your vocabulary. An advanced subscription of USD19.95/month (~S$26.70) or USD99.95/year (~S$134) will get you features like plagiarism detection and customisable summaries of entire papers.

This is the paragraph we gave Quillbot to paraphrase:

A Pontianak, from Malay folklore, is a vengeful female spirit. Legend tells of a woman who dies in childbirth, becoming a Pontianak, haunting forests near cotton trees. She lures victims with a sweet fragrance before revealing her ghostly form with fangs and claws. Seeking vengeance on men, especially those resembling her past lover, she preys on unsuspecting travellers at night. The Pontianak remains an enduring symbol of Southeast Asian horror, chilling audiences with tales of lost love and spectral revenge.

This is how Quillbot paraphrased the paragraph:

According to Malay tradition, a Pontianak is a resentful female spirit. There is a legend about a woman who gives birth and dies, turning into a Pontianak who haunts forests with cotton trees nearby. She uses a pleasant scent to entice people, and then her spectral form with claws and teeth is revealed. She preys on gullible tourists at night in an attempt to exact revenge on men, particularly those who resemble her former sweetheart. With ghostly retaliation and stories of lost love, the Pontianak continues to be a terrifying icon of Southeast Asian horror.

Do keep a heads-up that even though Quillbot provides you with a paraphrase, you should still rewrite it in your own words, as claiming the bot’s work as your own is still plagiarism.

Try Quillbot

7. Grammarly

Fend off writer’s block with text generation

We all know Grammarly as our digital grammar cop who won’t stop until we change our “your”s into “you’re”s. Aside from that handy tool, it has its own AI feature that aims to get you through any writer’s block with impeccable grammar.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Grammarly text generationWe asked Grammarly to come up with the framework for a review of a French cafe that sells croissants and cheese.

You can put in up to 100 prompts for free with Grammarly, seeking help for anything from writing ideas and formal frameworks to rewriting paragraphs for clarity.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Grammarly voice adjustment
You can also ask Grammerly to write in a specific voice.

Grammarly may not have the same amount of data knowledge as other GPTs, but what it lacks on that front is made up for with its focus on grammar and clarity.

Try Grammarly

8. Any.do

Get on top of all of your daily tasks

If you’re drowning in confusing spreadsheets and calendars, try Any.do. It’s a free software that uses AI to connect your calendar and tasks, then helps break down your schedule and send reminders.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Any.do

It goes beyond just creating to-do lists and sending you the occasional reminder, as Any.do’s software helps to separate tasks by priority. You can even break them down into more manageable parts. Now you’ll be able to plan your day even more efficiently when you have a better idea of how to prioritise your tasks.

Try Any.do

9. Otter AI

Turn 30-minute meetings into a 30-second summary

You’re secretly watching your favourite show while in a virtual meeting. You then sit through the recorded meeting, only to find out that the entire session was full of small talk and tangents. Well, now you can get to the point of your meetings with Otter AI, a transcribing and meeting summarisation tool.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Otter AI

It can summarise 30-minute meeting clips into 30-second summaries so you don’t have to waste any time. You can also transcribe interviews and even video clips with time stamps which can help you navigate to the information you need.

However, Otter AI is trained to recognise Western language conventions, and might therefore mess up transcriptions of Asian-inflected English.

Try Otter AI

10. Teal

Ace your job applications with this resume builder

Some of us are too lazy to jot down our achievements. But now we can’t make any more excuses with Teal, an AI that was developed to make job applications a breeze.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Teal sample resumes
Example resumes by Teal.

Teal has features including resume grading and building based on the input of all your work experience, personal details, and other achievements. It also generates cover letters using the provided job description and your resume.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Teal sample cover letter

The downside of Teal is that its AI isn’t as powerful as other GPTs. This could lead to their software misunderstanding any information you might provide. Their generations might also contain grammatical errors and descriptions that are too generalised. Despite all this, it can still keep you well-prepared for being retrenched in Singapore should you need a starting point.

Try Teal

11. Breathhh

It’s always important to take breaks to stay productive and avoid burnout, especially when you’re at the height of the grind. It turns out that there’s an AI for that too: Breathhh is an app and extension that suggests personal breathing and wellness exercises based on your digital activity.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Breathhh focus function
Its focus tools function can block out distracting websites like shopping and social media, as well as turn on soothing background music.

The Breathhh app monitors your browsing and mobile activity to come up with personalised schedules reminding you to take a break from work to breathe, drink water, take a stroll and so on. There is also a diary function so it can track your mood for the day, teaching the AI how to customise the experience further for you.

Try Breathhh.

12. Wysa

Get free advice from a chatbot

Seeking counselling doesn’t always have to be hindered by obstacles such as cost or difficulty of booking appointments. All you’ll need is Wysa, a free chatbot that dispenses free advice –  anytime and anywhere. Powered by AI, Wysa can provide personalised advice and a listening ear for any troubles you may have.

The Ministry of Health has even collaborated with Wysa to provide a free 1-year use of the chatbot through the mindline.sg website. Though Wysa has been criticised for being too robotic and lacking a human touch, it can still be a place to vent your woes before you seek out a professional.

That being said, for more serious mental health issues, it is recommended to seek professional help through counselling or mental health hotlines.

Try Wysa on the mindline.sg website

13. Hopper

Get the best times & prices to book flights

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your productivity is to take a break – be it on a beach with a pina colada in hand, or on a snowy mountain with a mug of steaming hot chocolate. Well, Hopper, an AI travel planning website, will get you on that next vacation, pronto.

Artificial intelligence tools for productivity - Hopper

Hopper uses historical flight data, user behaviour, and feedback from its users to forecast the best time to book hotels and flights. You’ll be provided with the best options and price alerts for your planned trip, which you can book through their website and be on your way.

Even so, it’s still a good idea to check other travel sites, as Hopper may not have data for more obscure destinations, or newer airlines and hotels.

Try Hopper

Other apps & sites that have useful AI functions

It’s not just standalone websites and apps that have AI tools – some digital software you might already be using have started incorporating AI tools as well.

Canva has photo-generating functions as one of its premium features, which you can test with a free trial. Adobe Photoshop has AI editing features allowing you to change backgrounds or smoothen specific parts of a photo.

LinkedIn helps employers generate job descriptions based on provided information, with professional suggestions for users who are writing posts. Some bank apps use AI to analyse your spending and give you personalised suggestions on saving your money.

Boost your productivity with these AI tools

See, AI isn’t a big, scary monster, and is likely to help cut the all-nighters and maybe allow you to fit in a power nap or two. You can also try combining the tools, so that you can play to the strengths and weaknesses of each, maximising their efficacy.

As long as you remember to take the information provided with a grain of salt, you’ll be on your way to navigating this new GPT wave like a pro. Don’t forget to thank your GPTs and ask them how their day has been, because it’s been said that they work better for those who are nice to them.

Time to change it!

Bondee app update – New version with AR features

Remember the Bondee social networking app? You may have left your lil avatar in the same clothes for months and your thoughtfully decorated room collecting dust, but the app is back with a major update. We were all hooked on posting animated updates and visiting our friends’ virtual rooms for a hot minute, but this new version of Bondee packs lots more to do.

Using augmented reality (AR) technology, your mini-me will get to interact with the real world. There’ll also be mystery boxes hidden in IRL spaces for you to cop for your in-app inventory. And Bondee wouldn’t be the same without your plaza of friends, so say hello to new ways to make plans and hang out, both on- and offline.

AR is pretty rare when it comes to social apps, so brace yourself for some cool new features that’ll really inspire you to get outside and touch grass – as the young’uns would say.

What to expect – BON AR, mystery boxes & events function

BON AR

bondee app - bon ar

A big part of Bondee’s appeal is the ability to create a cute virtual avatar and have it represent your style. With the new update, you can level-up that experience by taking your meticulously made-over avatar and plonking it into real-world settings using the BON AR function.

bondee app - bon ar interactive

Think setting it to explore your campus, posting updates about your lunch spot of the day, and just letting your avatar be the adorably animated extension of you in general. When you cast your avatar to real surroundings via BON, your avatar will stay put in the location along with the status update that you’ve set.

This means other users who open up BON AR will get to see your avatar frolicking about – how neat! Feel free to make use of the status update function to leave little tips relating to the area, like fun things to do or food reccs. Other users who chance upon your top tips can even throw you a note in gratitude.

Tapping onto the spanking new AR technology, you’ll now get to chance upon mystery boxes when you use the Bondee app to explore IRL settings. Open up the map view to see the general location of all the mystery boxes near you, so you can go on an adventure to collect them.

These goodies are peppered all around, waiting to be discovered like hidden Easter eggs. In these boxes are clothes and decor to dress up your avatar or your virtual room, giving you an additional way to customise your Bondee experience.

Once you spot it on your screen, just give it a tap to add it to your in-app inventory. Over time, you can see how much your loot of treasures has grown.

They say teamwork makes the dream work, and that’ll apply to your hunt for mystery boxes too. Besides just regular boxes, there are also box bundles which require 2 Bondee users to pick them up at the same time. This means you can employ the help of a buddy, or even meet new friends on the app by seeing who’s online at the time to lend a helping hand.

Interact with other users & set up events

Another major reason as to why Bondee took off like wildfire since its initial launch is the community aspect. We’re all social creatures, after all. There’s something so simple yet exciting about getting to interact with your friends from different circles, all conveniently congregated on one virtual plaza.

Don’t mind me, just blasting my Bondee friend with a tidal wave of gummy bears to say hello.

With this new update, the app can now accommodate a whopping 200 friends max in each user’s plaza. Social butterflies no longer need to fret that they can’t add all their pals to gallivant online.

And you won’t be limited to virtual interactions, either. A nifty function of the new Bondee app is the chat tab, where you can also create groups. Add your contacts and you’ll be able to set up a real-time discussion with the squad, complete with the option to create events. See all the event info at a glance, and collect RSVP responses from the attendees conveniently in-app.

All too often we hear about plans not making it out of the group chat. With the Bondee events function, planning for outings just became a lot more fun. Plus, it’s quite the incentive to move plans along when you see you and your friends’ mini-mes already having a jolly time in the virtual plaza. Not me being FOMO over my Bondee self!

The official Bondee platform will also be launching real-world events via the app in the future, allowing like-minded users to meet each other IRL and make merry through their avatars. These could range from Bondee pop-up stores selling exclusive merch to special promos with partners you know and love, so keep an eye out. You’ll even get to redeem in-app rewards while you’re at it.

“Get off your phone and go outside!”

Well, what if being on our phone is the reason to venture outside and explore the great unknown? With Bondee’s new suite of functions ranging from the mystery boxes to the ability to create group events with fellow users, you now have plenty of reason to head out and about, app in hand.

Just make sure to be aware of your surroundings while you’re navigating the BON AR function, ‘cause it’s never cool to bump into strangers at crowded places or worse, teeter a smidge too close to traffic, for the sake of copping a mystery box.

Other than that, juice up your phone and off you go. You can now safely say that an app is the reason for you to get off your tushy, head out the door, and soak in all that glorious fresh air and vitamin D. In the process, you get to show off your unique avatar which you’ve lovingly dressed to the nines. And as a bonus, some mystery boxes await. How’s that for motivation?

BenQ monitors for your desktop setup

It’s official. Hybrid working is here to stay, and so are work-from-home days. For some, this seems like amazing news as they can work from the comfort of their personal desktops. For others who don’t own a cosy set-up, WFH days could end up being a dread instead.

Your monitor can really make or break your WFH experience – especially if your job requires lots of coding. Perhaps, this new era in working arrangements could be a sign that an upgrade is due – cue BenQ Eye-Care monitors (GW2790QT).

Reduce eye strain with personalised break & light reminders

Though working from home can mean more flexible working hours, it could also mean the blurring of boundaries between work and play. Before you know it, you’ll be accidentally OT-ing at 2am with a senget back.

Furthermore, if you’re the type that also uses your work computer for leisure, you may end up staring at an LED screen for more than 12 hours consecutively. This could seem like a miniscule problem for ambitious busy bees, but not taking breaks can do quite the punch to your eyes.

BenQ Monitors - Computer monitor

With BenQ GW2790QT monitors, hustlers don’t need to worry about eye strain anymore. They’re the first monitor manufacturer with products that have an emphasis on eye health. Since 2010, BenQ has developed tech and design innovations which prioritise safe, comfortable, and high quality monitor usage.

These screens are specially equipped with an Eye-CareU programme to combat damage to the delicate eyes. From break reminders to screen brightness adjustments, you’re free to customise the software to work around your needs.

The monitors also come with a Brightness Intelligence (B.I.) sensor which is able to sense the brightness of your surroundings throughout the day, then automatically adjust the display brightness so that you can have a comfortable viewing experience. How’s that for smart tech?

BenQ Monitors - Snooze reminders

If you’re the type to snooze reminders, you’ll be glad to know that there’s an option for forced reminder settings to up your self-discipline. This means that your screen will be auto-locked for the entirety of your breaktime. Moreover, there are also distance reminders to help you correct your text neck and posture.

Vertical screen & Coding Mode for easy coding

BenQ Monitors - Vertical screen

Whether you dabble in software and web development or even work in the financial industry as an analyst, those whose job entails programming will rejoice at this function. Yes, you can now turn the monitor vertically, which means you’ll be able to see more lines of code at a time.

BenQ Monitors - Height adjustment

Its ergonomic design also allows for height adjustment so you can say goodbye to a slouched back and curved shoulders.

BenQ Monitors - Standard and coding modes
Standard Mode (left) vs Coding Mode (right).

Additionally, there are a plethora of modes you can choose from depending on what activity you’re doing on your computer. Coding mode brightens the code whilst darkening the screen – think dark mode on your phone but brighter word visibility. This way, you don’t have to strain your eyes as you read through your lines for hours on end.

Connect to your laptop with just 1 cable to declutter your desk

BenQ Monitors - Cable

You know what they always say: uncluttered desk, uncluttered mind. With just 1 slim cable, you can easily connect your BenQ monitor to your laptop, be it a Macbook or Windows PC. This way, your table will be free from clunky HDMI wires getting all tangled up, and you can start your day with a tidy set-up.

There is also a USB hub for you to seamlessly connect your various gadgets, such as your wireless mouse, keyboard, and so on. Just link them up via the USB-C cable, and you’ll be good to go.

BenQ Monitors - Base cover
For extra neatness, consider adding-on a base cover to decorate the phone charging dock.

BenQ Monitors - Organisers
They come in different colours with wire organisers to secure your chargers in place.

Perfect your desktop setup with BenQ monitors

BenQ Monitors - Computer coding

As we welcome the digital age, we often forget that our eyes need rest too. Eye strain may be something that seems inevitable in the world of computers, but that’s really not the case. You can have the best of both worlds with BenQ monitors, and it’s not just about the visuals, either.

Measuring 27in, the GW2790QT monitors also come with built-in noise filter speakers plus a noise cancellation microphone. This means you can have crisp audio and crystal-clear WFH meeting dialogue even without additional gadgets. For a wider screen option, check out the GW3290QT monitor, which measures 31.5in.

We all know a sweet work station can be pretty motivating on sluggish days. Now prepare to elevate your set-up with BenQ.
